Chapter 1 - Prologue: Alone

The sounds of alarms and screams all seemed to blur. He felt numb all over, a tingling sensation spreading throughout his body originating from his chest.

He could feel himself losing consciousness, as if someone were pulling down on his eyelids, the world seemed to slowly get darker. Everything just a series of blurred flashing lights.

He moved his arms around in a panic, grasping at anything he could cling to. The more he moved the faster the darkness came and the slower his arms moved, but he did not stop until he felt something grab one of his hand.

His arms soon stopped moving as he felt some warmth returning, the numbness in his hand receding somewhat. He could feel a stinging sensation in his eyes as tears began to fall down his cheeks.

He felt his face tremble as he struggled to open his mouth and speak, his voice weak and barely audible.

"….."

He couldn't even hear his own words anymore. His thoughts were becoming slower and the darkness faster. He tried to think back to his life. The good, the bad. The happy, the sad. But… nothing.

He couldn't even remember a face, a place or even anything he ever cared about.

Who was he? Where was he? What was he?

The darkness moved faster the more he panicked, his thoughts a mess filled with despair and confusion. Yet just as the darkness was about to swallow the last blink of light, he felt a squeeze at his hand causing the darkness to freeze for a second.

His vision suddenly lit up as he felt the warm touch of lips against his. He closed his eyes as a comforting energy seemed to flow through his body, reinvigorating it.

He could smell the mix of lavender and blood in the air, the taste of iron filling his mouth. He could feel her breath against his skin, the tight squeeze holding his hand. However, just as he was about to open his eyes, he felt her pull away.

The energy he that had strengthened his body began to disappear slowly as the numbness returned. He turned his head to see the departing figure at the doorway, her blond hair reaching her shoulders. She turned around, her vibrant green eyes were red from crying, and you could see numerous cuts covering her body.

"I always loved you, William" her voice seemed far, like an echo. She quickly turned and left before William had a chance to respond.

William looked back to the ceiling, his eyes red once more. Time seemed to pass slowly for him, but with no memories to dwell on he could only focus on the slow darkness that seemed to swallow the world around him. And with it the creeping cold that tried to drag him to his grave.

Ten lights, it took the feet.

"Fuck, I don't want to die"

Nine lights, it's at the ankles.

Will tried to move anything and get help, but this just caused the darkness to move faster.

Seven lights, its creeping up the stomach.

The warm tears on his cheeks began to feel colder as they poured across his cheeks.

Five lights, it's gotten hold of the arms.

"At least let me remember something!" his voice was weaker but firm.

Three lights, it seems to squeeze the chest, his breathing became heavier and labored.

"My family?" his voice more like a gasp for air at this point.

One light. He couldn't speak. He couldn't move. He couldn't even feel the tears on his cheeks anymore.

William tried his best to focus in on the last light. The only thing left. His last hope.

'Don't leave me'

The cold seemed to surge deep into his body as if Death itself had its hand on his heart. Yet he continued to stare at the lonely star, pushing back against the darkness.

'I don't want to die alone'
