Chapter 3 - The Three Musketeers

Xeo was visibly irritated, his left eyebrow was continuously twitching without pause.

Xeo: Fine then, I will ask... Lume, you were having fun, right? We all came here to have fun right?

Rei: There it is again, the way you speak to others is disgusting. The way you use your words is so manipulative. Do you like taking advantage of others? Instead of being normal and asking "Hey, Lume, were you having fun" you say, "you were having fun, right Lume?" Absolutely disgusting, and my bad Lume, you can answer if you want. I just had some things that needed to be said.

Lume stayed quiet for a while while he was playing around with his hands. Finally, he spoke up.

Lume: W-Well, I think that we were all having fun when we came to the lake...

Xeo cut in right away before Lume finished his thoughts.

Xeo: SEE REI, I'M RIGHT AGAIN, LIKE ALWAYS.

Rei: That's because you only ever think that you're right. You can never admit your mistakes, and I think Lume wasn't done speaking. You'd know that if you actually listened to him once in a while.

Xeo: WHAT MORE IS THERE TO SAY? RIGHT LUME??? ARE YOU GOING TO TAKE HIS SIDE? IS HE DOING SOMETHING TO YOU THAT I DON'T KNOW ABOUT?

This time, Lume's voice was much sturdier and more grounded. He had enough.

Lume: No no no, Xeo just stop already. It was fun when we started but you took it too far. It was obvious that Rei was having trouble breathing but you looked like you actually enjoyed it more than when we first got here.

Rei: See, I don't try to target you on purpose, but things aren't always as you think. Just try seeing it from more than your own perspective, and I say that nicely, because you're still my friend Xeo.

Lume's slightly shocked face was replaced with a warm smile.

Lume: Now that's more like it. Aren't we like the three musketeers? We can't be separated so easily; we have a stronger bond than the other village kids. But let's go home for now, I'm getting pretty hungry and we've been out since the morning. Our mothers are probably worried sick as well. Hopefully we can get a warm bowl of porridge when we go back. That would be amazing.
