Elijah might be relaxed around him because he technically grew up around him. He was even calling him uncle! He doesn't have any reason to be afraid of Leo unless he gave him a reason for him to be afraid of him.
But after the words he just uttered, Elijah believes that it was more than enough reason.
So after telling Leo Hayes that he is in love with his daughter, Elijah limped away as fast as his injured foot could take him, leaving Leo who stopped walking and just watched Elijah's back with narrowed eyes as if there was a shooting target taped on his shirt.
Elijah managed to leave the underground facility alive and unscathed. But in his haste, he forgot to change his clothes and clean the blood on his face and knuckles, giving his mother a good scare.
