"Oh, I don't know about that. I haven't seen him in two weeks," Nora heard Brenda say and when she looked up, she saw that Brenda was telling the truth. There was genuine sadness and worry etched on Brenda's face.
Nora pursed her lips and replied, "Two weeks? How could he leave you for two weeks?" There was also a genuine concern in Nora's voice not because of anything else. She is worried that Brenda was left all alone in her house.
Not that the village or her neighborhood was dangerous for an old woman, but she was already old and needed someone to look after her.
And besides, Damien was involved with criminals. Although no one knows about him being Bowie Faulkner's consigliere, there were probably few who knew him that might put Brenda's life in danger.
Damien should not leave his grandmother alone in their house.
