Another day to feel restless, his body aches and a mind that was lost in thought. It was blank like an unpainted white canvas, barely touched with paint of ideas that irritated himself so much. His eyes formed dark circles after pulling up an all-nighter with the others, his only hope to think was the black coffee he holds in his hand while he sat by the countertop in the kitchen. He had a dazed expression that he would usually pull whenever he has nothing in mind.
Mark starts to overhear the conversation going through behind the walls, it led from the stairs to which he knew who the owners of the voices were. He proceeds to move himself to a more comfortable space, the living room. The sounds kept getting loud and louder until it finally stopped when he saw the two figures that stood from his left side. They came to a halt once seeing him as well, of course, those bickering sound from before was from Miyoung and Chan.
"You're not heading to class?" In suspicion, he asked her with an eyebrow raised.
"I don't have class today," She replied.
"And you were the one who told her not to go, sir." Chan voiced out a slight reminder to the older. Clearly, Mark still hasn't returned to his usual self just yet, he had even forgotten what came out from his mouth from yesterday.
"I did?" The two younger nod to his question. His eyes dilate to the white ceiling while his lips parted a little to rethink what happened last time. Miyoung looks to Chan who stood behind her, he gave her a shrug not really caring what's going on with the older male since he is already used to Mark being the weird one in the house.
"Mark, how about you take a rest? You don't really look good today." His younger sister walks over to him and gently holds onto his arm. She worried if he might fall within minutes, the gloomy look on him didn't exactly match his actual personality. Even his posture seemed like he was in a drooping way and it convinced Miyoung to make sure her brother gets some sleep.
"How can I? I can't let Yukhei step over our family name."
"Who?" Mark lightly places a hand over his mouth as he accidentally mentions the name that was considered to be taboo to say when his sister was around. He had a surprised face on himself and looked over to the younger girl who was waiting for his answer.
"We should head to the reading room, I think it's probably the right time to finally tell you about it." Mark hands her the cup he held from before and moved himself to elsewhere, which passing through the hallway that soon led to the room he directed his sister to meet up. The girl had a confused look plastered on her face, though her brother is weird this was weirder than any other day. She pans to Chan who stood behind her, he also had a strange look after watching Mark acting up.
"At least he could walk properly," Chan said in a sarcastic tone, he was more creeped out about how the oldest behaved. Probably this is what sleep deprivation does to someone, he thought.
"You know something don't you?" The girl followed the man into the kitchen, she placed down the cup her brother handed to her and looks over to the other.
"Of course I do, but don't even bother asking me. You think I'm that easy?"
"Jeez. Okay, I'll ask Mark for myself then." She rolled her eyes and bolted away from the scene. Tired enough of being 'friendly' with Chan, he wouldn't understand anyway. Even this earlier, they were making a fuss about cleaning the upper floor, the male didn't get enough sleep which may be the reason he was being cranky for no reason at all. But Miyoung let it slide, everyone except her was in a bad mood. It led her to have particular assumptions about the man from the day before, if she was correct, the name that Mark mentioned before might have been the same person as the guy that threatened her brother.
She pushed the dark wooden door that her brother left slightly open, continuing to close it after once she stepped into the room. The girl watches her brother become busy near the study desk with a few files and paperwork in hand. She lightly made her way towards Mark, eyeing him rummaging through a profile and other attachments that slipped with information along with it.
'Huang Yukhei,' A name she whispered to herself as she pulled a front sheet of the person's profile, it included his picture as well. A smug smirk with huge pretty eyes, his skin was tan like caramel and had an expression that showed his incredible charisma. It definitely looked like the man that came by yesterday, though their previous guest wore shades last time, Miyoung was able to sense this was the man's actual face.
"Isn't this your friend?"
"Not anymore, he's our target for this week," Mark said seriously.
"You make it sound like we kill someone each week, he's your friend though? Stabbing your friend's heart doesn't sound pretty, bro." She looks at him, waiting for the right answer.
"He's a part of a gambling group and he's gonna lead us into debt if we don't get rid of him. We only have another day to make sure it won't happen. He even tried to take us all for the blame, I can let him off easily."
"Does dad know about this? You keep saying you want to get rid of him, that's gonna leave a taint if someone finds out."
"No, dad doesn't know what that guy is doing. And I'm not literally going to make him disappear, just make him lay low a bit. I've already planned out the arrangement how we're going to deal with him but I just need you to be on board with me." Mark looks at his younger sister for reassurance, bringing her along might be a lifetime for him to regret if she's in danger but the whole team needed Miyoung to be on the site.
"Alright, fine. Just get me into the details, I'm still a little pissed off you guys planned without me last night." She crossed her arms.
"Great, I'll get down on who we're dealing with." Mark single-handedly explained and filled in the information she needed to know. He was busy as a bee but tried to be precisive while he went through the files and documents his men had gathered beforehand, it was important to them to know what they'll soon be dealing with. Their family was a well-rounded one to the higherups community, any absolute information was easily gathered from them. From the status of each businessman exists in the nation to the scandalous schemes their rivals did. The descendants of the Parks were quite the manipulators known to the elite groups.
Which was why they were secretly hated on.
Miyoung examines the pictures of the man her brother despises, he was rather good looking than any other man she has met. Depending on his looks, the male did not look like an average Korean, more likely to be someone from a different nation than them. Though she could not care less about the unknown male, all she wanted to know was what his relationship might be with her family. More likely, what was his relationship with Mark?
"You good?" The voice of the older questioned from behind seemed a bit more hyped than before but those eyebags and slouching figure made Miyoung had second thoughts of their investigation. The words from her brother didn't sound convincing at all, as if there was no motive behind it. Judging by his tone alone is as bad as it is. This is why she felt worried and doubtful of her brother, was he dishonest before? Not sure. Ever since their father left Mark in charge, some things just haven't been the same for the two siblings. Maybe work was too much pressure for him? Maybe. It was the greatest way to interpret that but out of nowhere, the thought of killing his own friend? It was weird if Miyoung could think about it. The weirdest part might be;
Why was she dragged into this?
It wasn't like she had the power to do anything for him anyway. So what exactly was Mark thinking about?
"No. Just curious, I guess?" She didn't feel like having another conversation over it, it would be hard to convince her brother to stop his work but something about this was very shady to her. Making Mark speak out honestly was just a beat around the bush. As for now, might as well just follow on with his needs.
That is before Miyoung knew disaster would come to her.
