"Name is Rex. Let me get everyone's attention, and I will explain the situation"
Rex cleared his voice and shouted, "EVERYONE LISTEN TO ME! I WILL ONLY SAY THIS ONCE!"
"Last night, the nobles' guards intercepted Gerax and the others. We don't know what happened yet. They were supposed to ring the bells this morning."
"I knew it! You guys are not unreliable! How about the explosions? Even my deaf ears heard it! Even my failing knees felt the rocking earth!" An old man asked the question. Soon, more shouting and questions followed as a grumbling crowd followed. Zane knew the troublemaker, it was the old man again.
Rex looked at the old man and said, "It was an Ascendant!"
When others heard it, they became quiet. If there was an Ascendant involved, there was no point in rebelling. Some started shaking just hearing the word, panic could be seen in their eyes.
"Don't be mistaken!" Rex clicked his tongue. "We have contracted the Ascendant to create chaos in the city! Thus, he made the explosions!"
'There was an Ascendant involved?' Zane started thinking. Cecilia came close to him and whispered to him, "Congratulation! I did not know you became an Ascendant already." Zane rolled his eyes when he heard Cecilia's mocking tone.
Suddenly, the old man spoke in a loud, questioning voice, "Yeah, dog shit! I doubt you will be able to hire an Ascendant even if you sell all your possessions and your stinking assess!"
Some of the crowd started laughing when they heard him. Meanwhile, Rex couldn't help but get angry when he heard the old man's words.
He thought for a second, his eyes shined. "Yes, it wouldn't have been possible for us normally. However, we have one person who can ask for help from an ascendant. He is a son of a high noble."
The crowd murmured, Old Gramps then said, "Who? You, just looking at your ugly face you ain't cut for nobility. Even your real mother would have probably pushed you back to her womb just seeing your face. But wait.."
The old man stopped suddenly, with a pitying voice "Was it because you are ugly they sent you as a slave?"
"YOU SON OF A..."
Rex, calming himself down, he raised his voice and said "GERAX. He is the son of a higher noble lineage. His full name is Gerax Everglade. He came from the Eastern region. He was banished by his family due to political circumstances. However, he had some help outside."
Many knew that Gerax had some connections outside. He had been providing information and equipment from the beginning to the slave rebels in the early years of the plan. One can even say that Gerax was the heart of the rebellion. The reason why their numbers grew was because of his influence.
Meanwhile, it was Zane's turn to be surprised.
When everyone settled down and somehow believed in his story, "Look, we only convinced the Ascendant to create chaos to give us an opportunity. We still continue our plan to move forward to come out from this place."
Seeing that the old man was about to say something again, he made a gesture to the two large men. They grabbed the old man's shoulders and dragged him outside.
"Stop giving us trouble already."
Zane knew the Ascendant's participation from Rex was all BS, but Gerax's nobility might be true.
'They probably can't figure out what happened. Also, to avoid unnecessary panic among the slaves. Since thousands were involved, there wasn't any more turning back. The gears of rebellion were already on full throttle.'
Meanwhile, seeing the old man being dragged outside screaming, Rex relaxed a bit, "Let me continue with the report. As I said, we don't have the Ascendant anymore, but he did create some favorable chaos for us."
"Initially, we are supposed to create havoc and free the slaves throughout the city. We did accomplish that at the Northern, Eastern, and Western areas."
"However, we received a report that the Southern area failed. Most of the slaves who rebelled were mercilessly wiped out by the Noble houses. They were led by Umbra's owners, Jezebel and Dough.
Suddenly his tone changed grimly, "We tried to give them high-level blood warriors, but... they were also wiped out."
Hearing this, Zane couldn't help but click his tongue. He was with Umbra for a long time. He knew Jezebel's strength and her way of cunningly dealing with her enemies.
"What do we do now?" one of the high-rank warriors asked.
"Supposedly, we are to exit simultaneously on Northern and Southern areas but we have decided to abandon the Southern area. The resistance is quite strong, and we are not able to have any more unnecessary casualties."
"Those remaining in the Southern area will hold the nobles for a while. Once we clear the Northern area, we will give help them."
'Right. Who in the right mind wanted to go back?' Zane knew that they were left to become bait while they left for the city.
When others heard it, they did not care. They were eager to leave as soon as possible. For them, some sacrifices were necessary. Many were even glad for this. Nobles had their reputation for being cruel, especially now that they were all rebelling. No one wanted to be at the end of the whip after this happened.
