By the time Prim returned home the sun was casting red streaks across an orange sky.
"See ya" Henry said as he and Cress drove away.
Prim watched them drive off until they turned a corner and she couldn't see them anymore.
Sighing, she turned and went inside.
When she entered the living room her mother was passed out on the sofa.
Ever since her father passed away her mother had been working overtime at the hospital and so she was always either working or exhausted both mentally and physically.
Prim pulled the quilt off of the back of the sofa and laid it over her mother.
The house was silent other than her mother's loud breathing so her little sister Solana definitely wasn't home yet.
Suddenly her ears began to ring. At first it was soft, then it began to get louder and louder until it was deafening.
Prim bit down hard on her bottom lip fighting the urge to scream.
She wasn't sure how long it lasted for but when the ringing started to subside she opened her eyes again something had changed.
The world around her had a light blueish-grey tint to it and there was a girl standing on the other side of the room.
She didn't say anything, she just stared.
Prim could feel the ringing start to increase and she braced herself for the pain. But right before it got too loud she heard the girl whisper to her.
"Thank you for waking up"
Then Prim held shut her eyes so long white spots began to form.
She jumped when she felt a hand grasp her arm. But when she opened her eyes she saw it was her mother.
"Are you alright?" She asked. "Your shaking"
Prim tried to answer but her words were trapped in the back of her throat.
"I-uh," She jumped again when her phone began to ring. But she knew exactly who it was.
"I'm fine" She finally told her mother. Then she reached in her back pocket for her phone.
Before she could even get out a "Hello" Benjamin was already asking her questions on the other end. He sounded almost hysterical.
"I saw her. Did you see her? What happened? Did she say anything to you?"
"Yes," Prim finally said once she could get a word in. "She thanked me for waking up. What about you?"
"She told me the same thing but what does it mean?"
"I think we're about to find out" Prim said once she finally realized she had left the house and was walking down the street.
Benjamin cursed. "I don't even know where I am"
"Text me the address whenever you get to wherever she's taking us" Prim said. "I'll be there as soon as I can"
Then she hung up. Not even a minute later her phone buzzed with the address.
She knew exactly where he was. But why were they being taken to an abandoned apartment complex?
She knew she would find out soon enough.
It was a long walk and by the time she arrived at the apartments her legs ached with exhaustion.
Once she reached the doors she felt the hold on her snap. Her legs were weak and they couldn't hold her so she crashed against the concrete.
She let out a string of curses as she pulled herself up with the help of one of the doors and made her way inside.
The building was dark and damp and smelled of rotting wood.
Once again she was under the control of some invisible entity as she climbed the steps two at a time.
She climbed to the fifth floor, turned down a dimly lit corridor, and came to a stop in front of a door numbered 373.
But the hold didn't break like she had assumed it would. Instead it grew much stronger to the point that even controlling her own thoughts was a challenge.
Prim braced herself as the door slowly opened. But when she saw Benjamin, disheveled as he was, a wave of relief washed over her.
"Prim" He smiled.
Then suddenly he reached out, took her by the sleeve, and pulled her inside.
As soon as she stepped through the door her eyes locked with the girls.
She made it a point to glower but the girl seemed unfazed.
"Why are we here? What do you want from us?" Prim questioned. But the girl stayed silent.
"I'm so happy you're here" Benjamin whispered.
"Why? You're still being held hostage"
"Yeah, but I'm being held hostage with someone else"
Prim rolled her eyes then turned her attention back to the girl.
"You are not hostage's" She finally spoke.
"We look like hostage's to me" Prim seethed.
"You are the chosen ones. You have woken up"
"What does that even mean," Benjamin asked.
"It means you two are now able to see the world differently than the average human. You can now do something the average human could only dream of"
"And what is that?" Asked Prim.
"Using your mind"
