Chapter 3 - ~2~

Prim used to come to The Brew every Sunday morning with her father before he past away. Those were some of the best memories she had of him. What little she had.

When the three of them stepped into the diner it was like stepping back in time. When she glanced over at the booth they would sit in every Sunday she could almost see her and her father blowing bubbles in their chocolate shakes.

"Prim" someone called.

Prim blinked and saw Cress and Henry waiting for her in one of the booths on the other side of the diner.

"Sorry," She said as she made her way to them.

"You sure you're ok?" Henry asked as she sat down.

"I'm fine. Just need to warm up a bit" Prim said forcing a smile.

What was wrong with her? Why did she feel like this? It seems that every second that ticks by she feels more and more disconnected from the world around her.

"-Free hot chocolates today"

When Prim looked up there was a woman standing in front of the three of them with a pink and white uniform and a tiny notepad. She hadn't noticed the woman before.

"We'll take three hot chocolates thank you," Cress said.

The woman smiled a sweet smile that exposed all of her yellow-stained teeth then hurried away.

"Wake up"

Prim's heart pounded like a hammer against her ribs. Her eyes bounced around the tiny dinner in search of the cause of the voice.

Then all of a sudden she met another pair of frightened eyes. She froze as fear clawed its way to the surface.

He motioned to his head, then pointed at her.

She knew what he was talking about. She nodded one hesitant nod.

He motioned with his finger for her to join him.

"Prim, who...Who are you looking at?" Cress asked looking around.

"Him," Prim said pointing at the strange boy. "I know him. Mind if I go say hi?"

Henry shrugged but Cress didn't seem totally convinced.

"I'll be right back," Prim said scooting out of the booth before Cress could protest.

Prim crossed the diner with four long strides and sat across from the boy.

"You can hear it too" Was the first thing he said.

Prim nodded.

The boy let out a relieved laugh. "So I'm not going crazy! What is it? The voice; do you know?"

Prim shook her head. "I first heard it this morning. In the woods, while I was ice skating"

The boy seemed to be thinking for a long moment.

"Miss" He called out to a waitress. "You wouldn't happen to have a pen on you by any chance would you?" He asked.

The girl took a sleek black pen out of the pocket of her apron and handed it to him.

"Thank you" He winked, then reached for a napkin and began scribbling something down on it.

He thanked the girl again as he handed back the pen then handed the napkin to Prim.

"Here's my number"

"Why would I want your number?"

"You and I are hearing the same voice in our heads. For all we know we're the only ones who can. And maybe one of us will stumble upon some answers the other person would want to know about"

"Fine," She said taking the paper. She then got up and began making her way back to her friends. But halfway there she paused and turned back to the boy.

"One more thing," She said.

"Hm?"

"Your name?"

"Oh, right. Benjamin"

"Cool, see ya," Prim said before finally heading back to her friends.

"What's this?" Cress teased as she snatched the napkin from Prim. "She got his number"

Prim rolled her eyes.

"He is rather cute," Cress said glancing over at the boy.

"I don't like him," Henry said. He chuckled when Cress elbowed him in his side.

"He's got nice eyes," Cress said.

This Prim couldn't deny. His eyes were deep emerald green with a hint of mischief.

"What did you two talk about?"

"Nothing much, just catching up"

The woman with the yellow smiled made her way over to them with a tray of three hot chocolates.

"Thank you," Prim said when she received hers.

The first sip of the steaming drink was always the best. She could feel the ice that clung to her bones begin to melt away.
