Chapter 1 - The ball.

I grew up in a small town just on the tip of Tennessee. I am the oldest of four daughters in my family. I am a werewolf in a pack called the Appalachian Moon pack. We don't have a large pack, but we stick together. Our Alpha is currently looking for his mate and every young woman in the pack is hoping she will become the next Luna. I, on the other hand, do not think that it will be me. I am to strong minded for anyone to put up with.

Our Alpha has sent out a letter to every unmated female between the ages of eighteen and 22 in our pack and the surrounding packs inviting us to a ball in the hopes of finding his mate. My parents are taking me shopping to prepare for the ball. I don't want to go, but they will not let me miss it for any reason. That want me to be picked so that they will have a better position in the pack.

After gathering all of the supplies that we would need to make me perfect, we went to the salon to get my hair styled. My mother also insisted on getting my nails done. I am not much of a girly girl, but I knew that there was no way around this. I sat there and started to wonder what the Alpha was really like. Was he as nice as everyone claimed or would he turn out to be a complete ass? Would I be his mate and if so would I be a good luna?

"Crystal darling where did you go just now?", my mother asked. "I was just wondering about the Alpha", I said. "I have met him before and he was an absolute gentleman. He was nice and I never heard him say a mean word to anyone", my mother told me. "Oh", was my only response. My mother assumed that she had answered all of my questions and went about telling the stylists what she wanted done to me therefore leaving me to my thoughts.

It wasn't long after that when I was ushered into a carriage and sent to the ball. I began to get very nervous. I was beginning to wonder if the Alpha would like that way that I looked. I hoped that he would. I wanted to make my parents and the rest of my family happy even if that meant being the Luna. I found my mind wondering to the Alpha again. I was thinking about the way he looked and the way that his skin looked so soft.

I was just starting to think about how it would feel to kiss the Alpha when the driver announced our arrival to the castle. With that help of the carriage boy, I climbed down and walked to the castle. When I got to the castle, I gave the guards my name and where I was from then waited for him to announce my arrival. I walked inside the ball room and saw several other people talking, drinking wine, and having a good time. I was in awe of the room with all of the people in it. I almost felt as though I didn't belong here.

I began to feel that I was being watched. I started to glance around the room to see who it could be. I didn't see anyone looking at me. Just when I was about to claim it as being nervousness, I saw the most beautiful pair of eyes that I have ever seen in my whole life. They were a bright and deep blue and were staring directly into mine. This particular set of eyes belonged to none other than the Alpha.
