After I finish my coffee, I decide to finish my walk-through town. I can't help to smile at everything I see here. Even the people here are smiling, nodding and saying 'Hi' as they walked by. I can't help but thank God for pulling me towards this town. I chose this town because of its name really. 'Blue', same as my last name. It was like it called out to me, so I just followed my heart. Something told me this is where I belonged.
Well, now that I am here, I am in love with this small town. I can imagine what the streets will look like during Christmas with all the decorations and lights. Oh, I hope that I can find a place and be here for that. I know it is silly, but I have always loved Christmas. My childhood was rather good, my parents always made sure I got what I needed, but there were some years that Santa didn't bring me much either. But overall, I will always cherish those memories of my family.
After I finish my walk through the town, I start to head back to my car thinking about what Mr. Black told me. I guess it won't hurt to go over to the Blue Mountain Resort and talk to Reggie. It sounded like Mr. Black was sincere about me talking with her.
The walk back to my car was really peaceful, listening to the sounds of the wind and the birds chirping in the distance. It was like music to my ears. The smells were exciting to say the least. A woodsy aroma. Yup, it's official I love this town even if it has only been a few hours since I arrived here.
When I get to my car, I see that the empty park form earlier is now full of children with their parents or caregivers. It's a beautiful site to see. So, I walk over to the bench and just to sit and think about what I should do. I love being a doctor and I know that I was meant to help heal people. After about an hour or so if just watching the children play and thinking about how soon it will be me and my baby there playing, I decide that I need to make a decision about the resort. I think that it will be my best bet as the small diner in town is not hiring, nor is the cute little café.
It was only a 20 min drive from the park where I slept last night. I wonder if Mr. Black told his daughter that I might be coming by. Well, what will it hurt right? The worst that can be said is 'No we're not hiring' 'Go away' or maybe a polite answer 'Sorry she's not here right now'. As I get closer to the Blue Mountain Resort, I see just how beautiful this mountain really is. Beautiful architecture with hug clear windows, perfect for watching snow fall. The landscape was magnificent! I have never seen such a beautiful place before. Parking was easy, as I get out of my car I am greeted by a young man, the bellhop maybe,
"Welcome to the Blue Mountain Resort, my name is Ian. Can I help you with your bags?"
He has such a bright glow to him. I smile at him and reply "No Thanks, I am looking to see if I can speak to Reggie. Mr. Black told me it would be okay if I stopped by." He jumps at the name with wide eyes like he had seen a ghost.
"Please follow me" He states smiling, he turns and walks towards what I assume is the main entrance.
"Please wait here" and then he takes off with a fast-paced walk, almost a run. I laughed to myself as I watch him disappear. After a few minutes, a tall slender woman with jet black hair walks up to me, "Hi I'm Reggie! Ian told me you would like to speak with me?" her voice was so smooth like Dove Chocolate melting in your mouth. She is breathtaking. "Oh, umm, yeah. I spoke with Mr. Black this morning at the café in town this morning and he suggested that I come and talk with you this morning. I hope that it's all right that I came by without an appointment."
"Not a problem at all! Actually, my dad called me earlier and told me that he met you and said you might me stopping by today. He told me you are a doctor, how long have you been practicing?" She waves for me to follow her down a beautiful hallway with marble flooring and black and crimson walls. This place has a feeling of power to it.
"I graduated med school just over 4 years ago and up until this week I worked at LA General as a physician in the ER. I was also an EMT Firefighter prior to and during med school." I explained as we walked to her office. As we walk into her office, I realize just how out of place I felt. She prides herself with showing off all the places that she has visited.
"Let's sit and talk. Would you like tea?" Reggie asks me as she hold out a beautiful authentic porcelain tea pot with delicate cherry blossoms painting around it. I wonder if she traveled to China and brought it back with her.... I nod my head yes. I prefer coffee but I also enjoy a good cup of tea.
As she pours my tea in a matching porcelain cherry blossom cup she continues "Well as it happens our resident on-site doctor decided to take another position and we have not yet filled the position she left open. I would like to see how you handle emergencies on a trial basis. We can start out as a six-month term and discuss whether you like it here or not. Now, the position does however require you to live on site and be available 24/7 for emergencies during our busy season. Now that's not to say your never allow to leave of course." she laughs. "But all your expenses are covered plus, you will receive a weekly salary of $2500." Holy crap! did she just say $2500 per week. Maybe she meant per month.
"I'm sorry what was the salary again?" I asked for clarification.... my facial expression must have looked very comical.
"$2500 per week. Miss Blue we take pride in our employees and treat them like family here. And as our doctor you will be a very intricate part of our family as you will not only treat all our guest but all of our employees also as a part of their employment compensation, they receive medical care from you as well. You will have everything you need for any medical emergency that may arise including a surgical room and several suites just in case you need to watch someone overnight." Seriously, they have all that. This is like a dream job.
So now I have a few questions that are coming to mind, but I think this is the place or me. "Will there be any other staff other than myself?" Please say yes.... at least one nurse or even a nurse aid.....
"Oh yes! Of course. That would actually be my younger sister, Gemma. She has been doing her best since the last doc left, but she is not as experienced as you." The look on her face is a look of pride and excitement.
I smile with a nod. "Alright, well everything sounds amazing. It also sounds like an amazing challenge. How soon would you need me to start? I haven't found a rental place which apparently is a good thing with the requirement of living onsite" I realize it may not be immediately and that is ok, but I hope it is soon since my cash is running low.
"Well my dad told me that you just came to our town and well, my dad also noticed you slept in your car last night. And with our immediate need, I was thinking you could take a couple of days to get settled in while just being on call for anything that Gemma cannot handle by herself and then start fresh Monday morning. That way it will give you time to learn the lay of the land and I can introduce you to everyone, except my brother. He is the owner, while I manage all of the day-to-day activity. He is away on Pa-, um, business" She cuts herself off suddenly, for reasons that remain unknown.
"Well that actually sounds great." I feel like I am smiling ear to ear. I cannot believe I got this lucky. I hope that me being pregnant will not be an issue. I will talk to her later about that. I still have sometime before my pregnancy will affect my working.
"Well how about I give you a small tour and show you around the resort and where you will be living so you can start to get settled in." I nod as we stand up and shake hands, she unexpectedly pulls me in for a hug, taking me off guard. For some reason I feel at ease with her and hug her back with a sigh of relief.
Walking around I can't help but take in all the beauty that is here. This place is AMAZING! It has anything a person needs to relax and everything a couple needs to make the prefect romantic getaway. We talk while walking and all of a sudden, she asked me when I was due with my babies. Weird since I hadn't mentioned I was pregnant yet, but she didn't seem to mind at all. I guess being the new doctor has perks. The resort even has a day care for their employees. She said it's to help the family stay together during the busy season.
Reggie's tour was cut short as she had to handle something at the front desk. So, she took me to my cabin so I could settle in, saying she'll come back for us to talk over dinner.
So, in the meantime, I decided to start unpacking the little bit of stuff that I was able to put in my car before I ran, clothes, pictures of mom and dad and all my certificates and degrees that I have framed.
