As we moved towards the screams as stealthily as possible. But doubt with our skills it will be stealthy, with me stepping on every small twigs and bush cracking and breaking. It was like an elephant colony migration through a forest.
As we moved slowly but surely did not want to get my troops exhausted before the action. After a short trip through the forest that is mostly filled with oaks that are 5-8m tall with 5-10m in between one tree. We have been at it for it seems like 5 mins the screaming and sound of a possible battle area were gone after 2 mins. So now the heading was the last heard battle area direction.
with a small incline (10degree) up we climbed on top of the ridge should I even call it ridge. Well anyway, we saw a dirt road in the middle of the forest. Looking to the left and right on the right, there was a road blockade done in hastiness. On the road, 150m down to the right of us we saw a big oak tree blocking the road, and the carriage is stopped with small creatures running about the area.
I ordered my soldiers back the incline we climbed heading back to the forest and continuing our trip towards the carriage. about 100 steps in the sound from the carriage quieted down. Yeah with our skills in stealth, probably we have been heard and alerted our potential enemies.
If it's like that no point in hiding we climbed back over the small ridge. And observed the carriage, yeap totally it was ambushed, carriage driver is in the seat dead, held on with a spear through his chest pinning him to the carriage. And around the carriage 3 bodies of humans one of which is a female probably the one we heard earlier.
Around them, 4 bodies of goblins lay dead. Must have been a small skirmish with goblin victory, just intruded with my soldiers the looting process of goblins. So there are 7 of these critters. Green fellas spotter us and started the rush towards us.
It's over goblins we have the high ground. Then I ordered my men to get in a defensive position in a single line yari wall. I was on the right side of the formation looking at the advancing goblins. As the goblins came closer. Oh, Shit is that a grenade. A round ball metal object was lit and thrown to the middle of my yari wall.
Oh cmon what else would u call that instead of a grenade
As soon as I saw that.
Lay on it I screamed giving the order to the closest soldier. Just as the soldier was about to cover the grenade in the middle of his fall, the grenade went off with a loud bang and also with a flash.
All I heard is. In fact, I don't hear a thing it was like static noise, but not really is it like whistling, a very loud one, but it's constant. Tried saying something, nothing I think my mouth is moving. As I was working to recover my hearing. A blow landed on my chest plate as a goblin tackled me down. (with a pretty solid force I gotta say)
The creature was ugly as I thought it is from countless descriptions from the novels I read. ( so it seems accurate) Oh, yeah my smelling ability works perfectly as the creature uses its deadly chemical attack on me grinning widely.
How I wish it was not hearing but smelling had some wires cut and malfunctioning.
Now it takes its lodged knife from my chest plate. So it seems I have been stabbed I was fast glad that chest piece armor stopped it.
As I saw the knife I started struggling even more as if I was just laying on the ground and chilling with a goblin on my chest.
While trying to hit the goblin with my knuckles the thing stabbed through the armored parts of my arm and pierced through my left arm as it happened to free its knife from me to stab me again.
It was a hot sensation in my arm like getting pinched then nothing no pain.
At this moment the goblin's throat got pierced as its greenish blood started pouring on me. And i totally did not throw up an honest word here. God damn it why did my smell had to work and the ears not wish it was switched.
I mean with my smell gone numb I would not have tasted that am I?
At this moment the throat of the goblin was pierced by a yari spear from behind by one of my soldiers. And as I lay there thinking about how I don't feel pain
A memory of mine flashes.
I remember when I was about 12 at our summer home there used to be a wooden fence that basically looks like ladders flipped and used as a fence and on the top of them it had triangle points.
Me being me decides to climb over that damn thing
. Instead of following how normal people do it by putting one leg over and then taking the other one thus finishing the task of getting on the other side of the fence.
I just climbed on top of the damn fence standing then the fence rocked as I don't remember well now. Was it someone else moving the fence or pushing me or was the fence so badly held in place.
I fell Ouch that was a painful and funny display hope people didn't see that. As I thought about that I stood up to fall again my left leg had no capability to bear any load on it. As I tried one more time and falling.
I checked my leg to see that it's cut deep really deep I could see my own leg bone, I thought oh yeah the bones are white. Surprisingly no blood spilling or something but still no pain.
As I remember that time now I thank my nervous system for blocking all the pain as I come to my senses. The soldier was helping me to sit up.
Right on time as I said it.
A sword came in and chopped the poor soldier's throat till the bone and getting stuck there the soldier grabbed his throat and fell over as I see goblin behind him.
Now I am in panic mode with adrenaline kicking in. Flee or fight I am sorry Mr goblin it's me or you. And I really hate it to be me!!
I draw my katana with my right hand and sliced it from top left to bottom right. I felt a bit of resistance and then my blade got freed blood splashed.
As for the green guy's chest armor, ok it's too much to call that armor, as it was a thick leather jacket at best. Was cut through and looks like there are few broken bones that small goblin
I mean they are about 1.1m in height (3ft 4 inch ) compared to my 1.87 height it was almost half my height. Yeah, I get it 1.87 (6ft 2)divided by 2 is not 1.1m.
Then as I killed my opponent 2nd kill fine 1 kill and 1 assist.
Looking at the battlefield before me I saw the damage done to us. Holy crap that grenade did a number on my soldiers damn. As I look at the place where the grenade exploded there is a small hole and the soldier that has covered the blast, has its armor reshaped into a big bulge towards his chest cavity.
The smell of gunpowder and blood and the stench of these goblin blood mixed in, making a cacophony of smell not sound.
That is pretty repulsive.
As I check next to the totally dead soldier the next two soldiers have horrible wounds in their lower areas. (I mean legs and all whatcha thinking about)
Must have been a painful death. 4 of my soldiers dead and 1 heavily wounded laying there won't have long to live. And with my brave rescuer who is not KIA (killed in action). Making 6 of us out of action. Leaving 4 of us on active duty to survive somehow. Yeah, I really wish it was those weakling goblins that die with a slap here and blow there.
The enemy forces are focusing on two of my soldiers that survived from the left flank on the right flank 3 goblins dead. One of the 2 soldiers had killed one more goblin and was rushing to my side.
Regrouping with my men I charge the enemy trying to sandwich me in the middle.
Is that a damn it's a mage amongst them? What can u say when the goblin's eyes emit light and form an ice spear thingy on its hand, ima call it ice crystal. And fire it at u how can u not call that a mage what else. ?
Oof another punch that hits me is that guy trying to become a marksman or something the ice crystal flew towards me hit me in the helmet and bouncing off almost making me fall back. I think I heard a ding sound from my helmet. Or was it my brain improvising? remember still not recovered my hearing from the blast.
As my soldiers were about to get in range to stab with their yari the mage with its eyes glowing touched the ground, or more like slapped. And my soldiers sank into their knees and got bogged down. That mage somehow turned the ground into a marsh smart move, yet annoying one.
The marsh ended just before me as I was in the back. Yeah, I was charging it was due to the ice crystal hitting me and putting me off balance slowing me down, that I happened to be in the back. Totally not cuz I didn't wanna get new holes in my body. Scared pff from few goblins, that are so deadly that they killed my 6 men, so easily and almost killed me as well, no not at all I ain't scared to charge them.
With my soldiers bogged down the mage goblin grabbed a yari from one of my dead. And went around the right of the marsh and I happened to go to the left.
Hey, cmon that's unfair that sneaky little thing went to my soldier's blind spot and pierced the guy in the armpit.
As I was rushing around the left side to help my soldiers. I managed to attack the mage before it freed its yari spear from its victim just as I was slashing down with my katana. Is that flames a flaming ball hit me in the hmm let's say in the stomach(not any lower)
As I cut down the mage, I got sent flying from the blast that fireball exploded, and damn it's hot, ouch, ok prob what I screamed was not ouch, put some sort of crazy scream from the top of my voice. I crashed on one of the goblins with a thud. Using the distraction of a man flying and crashing on a goblin one of my soldiers managed to stab the goblin he was facing in the stomach.
2 down 2 to go the
