Chapter 23 - Chapter 23 What do you want?

Otherwise, with Eldest's shameless rascal ways, who knows how much of their stuff would've disappeared.

Unfortunately, fate had other plans.

Jiang Dashan, with a stern face, looked at his two grandsons and asked, "Stop crying, tell me, was it you who pushed San Ya into the water? You must answer honestly."

His fierce demeanor alone was enough to scare the grandchildren at home without him saying a word, let alone with him frowning so intimidatingly now.

Consequently, both boys, amidst sobs, nodded: "Yes, we really didn't do it on purpose."

Sun Lixia's face instantly became ashen; Eldest was known for creating trouble out of nothing and being an unreasonable troublemaker, and now he would be even more relentless with justification.

Zhang Guihua felt sorry for her two grandsons and quickly tried to smooth things over: "Eldest, look, your two nephews didn't do it on purpose. Let's just let this go, shall we?"

"Yes, yes, Uncle, please be the bigger person and don't be too hard on the children," Sun Lixia also chimed in with a flattering smile.

However, Jiang Changhai was not swayed: "Impossible!"

He, of course, knew that his nephews hadn't done it deliberately, otherwise things wouldn't have escalated to this point.

So Jiang Dashan asked firmly, "Then what do you want?"

Hearing this, Sun Lixia's heart leaped to her throat, and she could practically see her household belongings being moved to Eldest's house.

Jiang Changhai, with a serious face, said, "You two, go apologize to Mianmian."

The brothers were forthright and turned around to go to the bedside: "Sorry, Mianmian sister, we didn't mean to push you into the river."

"I forgive you," Jiang Mianmian said magnanimously with a wave of her hand; these two troublemakers had already been sufficiently scared by their father.

And so, Sun Lixia's heart settled back down, and she quickly praised: "I always knew San Ya was the most sensible and understanding of all the girls!"

Zhang Guihua also showed a look of relief on her face, thinking that Eldest had finally become reasonable and didn't make an unnecessary fuss to gain an advantage.

Then they heard Jiang Changhai assert with conviction, "Mianmian has been so frightened that she'll need at least two months to recover."

"Agreed!" Zhang Guihua agreed without much hesitation upon hearing this.

After all, that lazy girl was always shirking work; it was fine as long as no chicken soup was involved.

Dad, you're the best!

Jiang Mianmian secretly applauded her father in her mind; she could lie around like a lazy fish for two whole months!

Jiang Changhai went on, "Mianmian is so weak, my daughter-in-law will need to stay home to take care of her for the next few days."

Su Wanyu, who had silently played the role of the worried and loving mother, thought: Dad, you're the most real man!

"No way!" Zhang Guihua's face stretched long, "If she stays home, who will do her work in the fields?!"

The work Eldest's daughter-in-law did was already the lightest of all, and if she wasn't even going to earn that bit of work points, then they might as well be keeping someone for nothing.

Jiang Changhai didn't hesitate to reply, "Let Laosan's wife do it."

"Why should I?!" Sun Lixia protested with clear displeasure.

Jiang Changhai answered with certainty, "Because your sons, Zhiwen and Zhiwu, pushed my daughter into the river."

Sun Lixia: ...

At a loss for words, Jiang Changtao stepped in and agreed: "Fine."

"Dad?!" Sun Lixia looked at her husband incredulously; she was already tired enough doing her own work every day.

Jiang Changhai was visibly pleased and patted his brother's shoulder: "You, Laosan, are responsible, like a real man should be!"

Jiang Laosan's mouth twitched; he had no desire to be praised by his shameless Eldest brother, feeling it was particularly fake.

Jiang Changhai didn't care what he thought and turned to continue: "And another thing—"

"Another thing?!" Zhang Guihua and Sun Lixia exclaimed in unison, couldn't this just be the end of it?
