Just for clarification purposes, when Wallace said to take Iris downstairs he really meant down the hall. Obviously, there's no basements in Dallas. Shifting foundations and flooding in North Texas just makes it impossible and a stupid idea to have a basement. Although, the worst architectural plan in Texas would be creating a sun room. As if you really needed to heat your house another scorching degrees more.
Anyways, to get back to the excitement, I imagine this rush like a run of chaos. Antoine carrying Iris. Wallace running ahead with Martinique. Teresa and Gina following suit. If they didn't all run with vampire speed this chaos would look much more comical like a lot of clowns fake-running down the hallway. But this was quite a smooth transition and a great time to have vampire powers.
Wallace opened the door to the last door in the northern hallway. Martinique shifted the hospital bed into position. Antoine laid Iris down. Teresa and Gina brought the ultrasound machine and extra blankets. Wallace popped his knuckles and then moved to the other side of the bed. Martinique managed the ultrasound machine and checked Iris's pulse. Antoine leaned against his mother and sister near the doorway.
Wallace removed his contacts from his eyes and looked into Iris's eyes. He began, "Child of blood, what do you want? Please let us converse with your human host and mother."
Iris's eyes returned to her natural colors and Antoine sighed with relief.
Wallace continued, "Iris are you there? Remove all compulsions and tell us what happened the night you met Antoine."
Iris responded in trance to Wallace's questions, "I got fired from my job. I saw the advertisement on TV for Antoine's bar and decided to get a drink. After noticing my ex-boss and ex-friend enter the same establishment, I ordered and drank a large lager. I went to find the restroom and accidentally went outside instead. I pulled in Antoine and we—"
Wallace decided to stop the rest of that sentence and redirected Iris. "What did Antoine compel you to forget?"
Iris replied, "He told me to forget whatever happened at nights."
Immense stares followed. Even Gina and Teresa looked at Antoine with shock and shame.
Wallace wanted to verify. "Are you sure that's what he said?"
Iris again replied in her trance, "Yes, that's what he said. He mumbled his words."
Again, more stares. Antoine stepped back towards the door in embarrassment. His only reply was quite an appropriate response, "Shit."
Martinique rolled his eyes and turned to Antoine, "Shit?!?! You think?! This is why annunciation and punctuation saves lives."
Martinique then turned to command Wallace, "Bring back the vampire child briefly. See if you can summon any information from it. Be careful and quick."
Wallace turned his head back to Iris and looked straight in her eyes. "Come back to us, child of blood."
Iris's eyes turned yellow again and her trance stare more intense. Martinique carefully monitored the ultrasound machine and checked for a heartbeat.
Wallace began his inquiries again, "Child of blood, what is your power and your purpose?"
Iris reached her right hand and touched Wallace's face on his right cheek. He stepped back and took a trance of his own. Iris's eyes turned back to her normal color and she closed her eyes to rest. Wallace, who was standing in the middle of the room, began to speak.
"I am the child of blood. To be born of the house of Gastropf, a royal heir to the Dallas Vampires' throne. My power will be to control another's body briefly, whether human or vampire. Do not fear my power. I was created by love and shall come into this world with love and kindness. If I am protected then the vampire world will remain safe. However, if I am taken from this safety and loving home, then the prophecies will come true. The war amongst all vampires will be inevitable and the vampires shall reign no more. Head these words in the months to come. I shall be silent forthwith."
After this speech, Wallace gasped for air and turned to sit down on a chair in the room. Iris remained asleep and Martinique stopped monitoring the machine and went over to Wallace. Martinique handed the contacts to Wallace, who put them back in his eyes before addressing the room.
"The baby knows no speech. I was translating from the images in my head. They were waiting for me to relay the message. It's as if the child was already aware of my existence and power. They needed my abilities to reach you. I have never experienced anything like that before. I think we must definitely heed the warning and prepare to keep the child safe. The power is unimaginable and it will probably only get stronger as the child grows. Iris should be able to eat normally again for now. But that means—"
Wallace trailed off and Martinique knew what it meant. Martinique continued where Wallace stopped.
"It means that we must decide on whether to reveal our secret to the human and whether to include her in the child's life. If we bring Iris into our world, do we risk peace by turning her into one of us or is it risking the peace by not allowing her to help protect the child. First, we must decide as a family. Then we must either remove the compulsion completely or modify it. Thank you Wallace for your wonderful assistance as always. We'll be in touch. You may leave now."
With that, the wonderful Wallace left the old castle to return home. The Gastropfs remained behind with a sleeping Iris and a mighty decision ahead.
