Chapter 35 - Mimicry

Seeing as how I didn't know how to deal with the situation, I used my 200 iq mega brain supercomputer to formulate a solution.

"...Guess I'll die." [Solace]

Nothing came to mind. That was until I recalled my ability.

("Hold up… let's try |Mimic|?") [Solace]

Though I didn't really know how it worked, I just tested it.

"|Mimic|!" [Solace]

Just as I used the spell, a dense fog seemed to surround my body. Within seconds, I was falling to the ground.

"W-Woah!" [Solace]

I landed on all fours, along with the sound of meat hitting the ground.

"Ouch…" [Solace]

("...Huh? Ouch?") [Solace]

I looked down at my hands. To my surprise, they were human.

"N-No way… I'm human again!" [Solace]

I felt elated at the thought of being human again, but there was one major problem.

"...Why am I naked?" [Solace]

Unfortunately for me, the mimicry skill didn't make me clothes.

"Ngh…" [Fina]

("Uh oh.") [Solace]

I could see Fina awakening, which was an even bigger problem.

("There's no way in hell I'm going to let her see me naked.") [Solace]

I glanced around in search of any useful objects, and luckily, I found one. Bad thing was, it wasn't a very sanitary method.

("Do I really want to do this…?") [Solace]

I pondered whether or not to go with my idea, but was brought to reality by Fina shifting in the background.

("Caution to the wind then!") [Solace]

Without regard to sanitation and morality, I stripped any clothing from the surrounding kobold's bodies.

("Hurry up!") [Solace]

I put on the clothing I stole from the kobolds in an instant, barely making it in time for Fina to wake up.

"Urgh… Wh-where am I…?" [Fina]

She still seemed to be in a daze, which I saw as an opportunity.

"Yo, you're awake?" [Solace]

"Huh?" [Fina]

She reacted strangely. As soon as she saw me, Fina whipped out a knife and crouched into a defensive position.

"Wh-Who're you?" [Fina]

"Woah! Don't point that thing at me!" [Solace]

I backed away with my hands up, making sure to show I meant no harm.

"...Stay over there, you pervert." [Fina]

"Pervert?" [Solace]

I looked down at myself. Though I did wear armor from the kobolds, I guess it wasn't enough to just cover up most of my torso and some of my lower half.

"Okay, there's a misunderstanding here." [Solace]

"I don't think so." [Fina]

Never had I thought my own master could be so annoying.

"You know what? Sure. How about I just… leave you alone? 'Kay?" [Solace]

I inched backwards towards one of the many paths in the cave, but was suddenly stopped when Fina called out to me.

"Wait." [Fina]

"...Yes?" [Solace]

"Did you do that?" [Fina]

Asking me a question, she pointed her dagger at the demon's corpse. Honestly, I was surprised that she didn't notice it sooner.

"Uh… Yeah. You were in some deep trouble so I helped you out." [Solace]

"..." [Fina]

She stared me in the eyes, as if to check if I was lying or something.

"...If you truly are my savior, then I apologize for my behavior." [Fina]

Sheathing the dagger by her side, she picked herself off the ground.

"May I ask your name?" [Fina]

"My name?" [Solace]

Then there was my other problem. I didn't want to reveal that I was her spirit so soon, so I thought of something stupid.

"My name… is uh... Alt." [Solace]

"Alt?" [Fina]

"Um… Yeah…" [Solace]

The dumbest and easiest name that I could think of. As an avid game enjoyer, I had multiple alternative accounts online. So, I counted my mimic-ed self as an alternative account. Therefore, I named myself "Alt" as an abbreviation for "alternative".

"Anywho, I should go now." [Solace]

"What? But I haven't thanked you yet!" [Fina]

As soon as I saw her take a single step forward, I turned into one of the cave's narrow paths. By the time she had caught up to me, I was no longer in my human state.

"Please wait- Huh?! Solace?!" [Fina]

And there I appeared, as Solace one could say. Using my newfound ability, mimic, I somehow managed to make myself the same as before I evolved.

("Here I am! You're one and only Solace.") [Solace]

I did little twirls in the air, attempting to distract Fina from going forward.

"Solace, did you see an almost naked man go down that way?" [Fina]

Shaking myself sideways, I replied with a "no".

"Hm… Then he won't mind if I take the demon parts will he?" [Fina]

She looked at the demon's corpse, unsure of what to do with it.

("Just take it. I killed it after all.") [Solace]

Gliding over to the demon's corpse, I motioned for Fina.

"...I suppose he won't mind, seeing as how he just left." [Fina]

And like that, Fina took out her dagger and went to work.

("I can't believe that worked…") [Solace]
