Chapter 1 - Chapter 1.

My name is Jenny. Jenny Avery. I never once believed that my life would become a whirlwind of love, adventure, and happiness. But with this happiness, there is pain, heartache, and danger. My life started out fairly normal-- I had an average family, good grades, and I had many friends. That all ended when I was seven, when my mother died. My father told me it was a heart attack, but I did not understand how a healthy woman of thirty could have a heart attack out of nowhere. My mother was my best friend, she was always there for me. Her death caused so much pain to my family, and to all of those who knew her. That is when I met my best friend, Becca. Becca was my neighbor growing up, she moved in a few days after my mother died. Becca had lost her mother long before I knew her. Our fathers soon became good friends and business partners as Becca, and I grew closer.

My father always had money, but when my mother died, he became a billionaire almost overnight. It was all well and good, but I still never understood where so much money could come from. My father was a workhorse; he worked at a tax building, but I didn't know he could get billions of dollars for working at the same place for ten years. He loved to show off his money, granted, he was very generous with it. He always hosted parties, and charity galas to help others. The number of parties he would have started to become boring, because I always had to attend them. Of course, I am proud of my father, but I am sick of the same parties, galas, and events over and over again. "J snap out of it" Becca cried snapping me out of my thoughts. "C'mon we're going to be late". We had a half hour to get around for another one of my father's parties. I always drug Becca along with me, she seemed to be my entertainment for the night. We never got into any trouble, but we still had our own type of fun.

Our fathers spent the nights drinking expensive champagne and talking with other rich old men. Later, Becca and I showed up to the party caked with makeup, styled hair, and gorgeous dresses. "Jenny Marie" said my father sternly, "you look beautiful dear, as do you Miss. North". "Thank you, father," I said, Becca thanking him after me. "This is Luka Harris" said my father as a man with deep green eyes, dark brown hair, tan skin and clearly huge muscles walked our way, "He is one of my business partners, he works at Marinos Inc., at the end of the party will you come find me dear? I need to speak with you" said my father. "Of course, I will-- ", I started, only to be interrupted by Luka. "Henry, you never told me how beautiful your daughter is," said Luka. "Excuse me? Don't speak to me like I'm not here" I said abruptly without thinking. Just then I felt a jab in my side as Becca elbowed me as hard as she could in my rib cage. "Jenny, will you join me in the ladies room". "Of course, B," I said, wincing. She stormed off to the bathroom so fast that I could barely catch up. She swung open the door, and as soon as it shut she turned around and glared at me. "What was that for?" I said angrily. "I didn't say anything wrong!". "Are you an idiot J??" said Becca. "That guy could buy and sell us, he's that loaded! Not to mention hot!! What the heck are you thinking??". "Sorry B, I couldn't think, He was being rude". I said. "Okay whatever, let's go get a drink, it's going to be a long night" huffed Becca.

We walked out of the bathroom and headed for the bar. "B, I'm going to find my father, he said he needed to speak to me" "Suit yourself, I'm going to get a drink". Just then, I heard a huge crash. "What the
" I said stopped, and visibly confused. People were screaming, the room was flashing, and people were running around. I turned around and the stained-glass window was broken, and there was a giant, black ball sitting right next to me. Instantly, I realized that I was looking at what looked like a bomb. Just like in the cartoons. I couldn't move, my legs froze to the ground. I couldn't stop staring at it. Just then, I felt a strong hand grab my wrist. Next thing I knew I was running out of the building. All of a sudden, my home was in flames, and I was whisked away by a complete stranger. I had finally broken free from the grasp of the man, and he turned around and stared at me. "C'mon kid we gotta go" said the man in a deep, yet attractive voice. "I have to find my father!" I cried. "I already have people searching for him, we have to go now!" he said. I reluctantly ran with the man. "Get in" he said, pointing at his car. "What are you crazy? I have no idea who you are!" I said. "You have to trust me!" he shouted as the building started to collapse. I, not knowing any other options, jumped in the front seat and we sped off.
