Chapter 3
I woke up the next day very much regretting sleeping under the bed, but judging by the howls, roars, cries and what have you, it was probably a good idea. Anyway, today is the day I hatch my companion and set off on my quest to survive, which I'm realizing I should have done yesterday, but with everything going on, I'm pretty sure I would have gotten myself killed. Anyway, I crawled out from under my bed with a groan and popped my back.
"Fuck that hurt. Morning Loki" I said while checking for threats through the slats
[Morning user. You should be able to sleep on the bed from here on, as the beasts and any curious races won't be back for a bit, besides some beasts to eat your companions eggshell.]
"Ok, now that I'm a bit rested I have to ask: why would they come for their eggshell? Sure there's some nutrients, but surely nothing worthwhile."
[Every companions eggshell contains a great deal of everstone, a very rare material that will raise a beasts potential when eaten. They can smell it from a mile away, but they'll likely kill each other until there aren't many left.]
"Doesn't that mean they'll be pretty strong though?" I asked, a bit scared.
[Yes, but they'll be heavily injured, so you'll have a good chance to beat them.]
"Ok then, at least we stand a chance. Let's do this then. How do I hatch it?""
[Use your blood, however I'd advise getting on your roof, user.]
"Thank you Loki. *Deep breath in and out* ok let's do this." I got on the roof and took a look at my surroundings. I was in the middle of a clearing with a crystal clear waterfall and pool, with a river flowing at one end of it. I'm located approximately 30 feet (a/n: if I'm getting this translated correctly 9 meters) away from this, with trees everywhere else I can currently see. the trees are double my houses height (12 feet) though they have plenty of low hanging branches from what I can see. anyway, hopping back into this, I used my spear to cut my finger and let my blood drip onto the egg, then stuck my finger into my mouth and got ready for hell.
After a second a very pungent smell (like rotten eggs) began to emit from the egg, and a bunch of roars, screams, howls and more rose, and after a few minutes a singular lion (female) appeared on the ground, heavily injured. after it jumped onto my home it let out a roar and pounced at me. I raised my spear and luckily speared it, killing it, but let's be honest here... even an inch down and I would have been screwed. A while later my companion's egg hatched to reveal a brown pitbull with black swirls all over it, and a tail that had a black tip. Luckily no other beasts came, so it was able to eat all of its eggshell which is probably good. Anyway, it fell asleep soon after.
"So, this is my companion huh? Didn't expect a dog to be honest."
[This world doesn't function the same as other worlds due to their intervention user, though I can definitely see why you would be confused] Loki said
I nodded my head and said "I see… looks like I've got a bit of a curveball to try and get past then. Oh shit I just remembered: can status scan identify what's safe to eat and drink? And if so, what's the margin of error we're working with here?"
[Good question user. Yes, it can tell you what's safe to eat and drink when you scan it with a mere 1% chance of being wrong. In addition, you'll also be notified if you're allergic to it.]
"Ok sweet, now do I just touch this lion to collect loot if there is any, or do I do something else?"
[To gain anything from corpses you must butcher them, though how good the loot will be will depend on how well you butcher them. I'll provide an outline but that is all I can do, I'm sorry user.]
"Thank you Loki, I have a feeling that'll be useful…"
After that I got to work, trying my best to follow the lines, though I failed miserably…
