Chapter 2 - Sweet Dreams

Blue sky and white clouds, the leaves of the single orange tree on top of the hill was the only thing blocking my view of the vivid sky when I opened my eyes.

I lifted myself up from the grass to a siting position and surveyed my surroundings. I was a top a lonely hill among a sea of trees. The gold glow of the horizon was encroaching on the blue of the sky. I stood up to get a better look at the area when the wind blow and an orange fall from the tree on top of my head.

Thud!

'Could someone please remind Mr. Cross what class is supposed to be use for!'

I open my eyes again to find that I that I was hit by a ruler and not an orange. My teacher had brought it upon myself to wake me up from my nap with a strike to the head. 'Mr. Cross shall I give you another or shall I continue with class.' The teachers annoyed words goaded me as I wiped the sleep from my eyes.

'Sure, ma'am give me another,' I yawned. But while she was about to bring the hammer down she stopped when I said,' only if you want to be tried for abuse and misuse of power.' The teacher shuck at my words.

The bell rang and nobody moved, the glare of my teacher could be felt as the entire classroom froze. I got up from my seat and shuffled to the door.

'What are you guys doing we have morning assembly this morning.' I yawned as the door closed behind me. Continued down the hall as the classroom erupted into chaos behind me. The sounds of people chatting, the clanging of lockers and rushed footsteps filled me ears as I walked towards the gym for the morning assembly.

'Mackis!' I heard a voice from behind me only to turnaround and see my overly enthusiastic friend dashing towards me at top speed.

'Ahdel don't run in the halls you'll hurt someone!' I was right of course, people could be seen just barely escaping from his path as he barreled down the hallway towards me. He skidded to a stop beside me and laughed.

'Like your one to talk, Mr. sleeping beauty, I thought Mrs. Crawford was going to kill someone and you just waltz out class like you were getting out of bed.'

'Well I practically was and you know she hates me so why should I give any effort to make her like me at all.' I yawned once again and then continued,' she calls everyone else by their first name while stuck with being called "Mr. Cross." I flashed air quotations while making a dumb face.

'Well your last name is quite close to anger or annoyed so it's perfect for how she feels when she's talking to you.' I looked at Ahdel with a dumbfounded expression, I wasn't sure if I should compliment him on saying something smart or berating him for not helping the situation. So I stayed quiet as we made our way to the gym.

'High school is a melting pot of teenage expression, emotion and hopeful a bit of learning, but place don't discount the fact that fun can also play a part. I hope to be a part of your fun for another year. Love you all lots! Please vote for me!' A simple yet effective speech but so utter embarrassing.

At assembly today we were having students council speeches.

'We love you, Zhena! Zhena for president!'

This was just a game to her because she knew she had already won with half the school chanting her name.

'Thank you so much everyone!' She said while blowing a kiss as a finishing touch, the boys hearts melted in her hands like pudding.

'Damn, the president is as gorgeous as last year.' Ahdel compliment slipped out while staring with longing,' to bad she's not in our class again.'

'That would be absolute hell and you know I get uncomfortable when you say stuff like that.' I put my head in my hands as the bell rang.

'Well I call it how I see it and she has become an absolute beauty and you are so lucky.'

'Lucky, yeah right, lucky is the farthest thing from what I feel!' Everyone one started pouring out of the gym for lunch when some first years came up to us.

'Um ex-excuse me, are you 3rd year Mackis Cross?'

'Yep, what do you kids want?'

'What do YOU think they want, Mr. Cross?!' Ahdel teased, I clinched my fist like I was going to punch him but stop when the PA dinged.

'The student council president for this year has been decided!' I looked back at the first years, unsurprisingly they were all guys.

'Huh, Like me guess you want me to introduce you to my sister?' I sighed

'All hail your president, Zhena Cross!'

The PA system boomed and people cheered.

I thought to myself, I wish I could go back to that lonely hill, lay down and take a nap. High school in a concrete jungle vs a beautiful view and sometime just for me it's apparent which place I'd rather be in.
