Chapter 2 - PROLOGUE (Part II)

So... I have come to the conclusion, funnily enough, that I am dead. Yup, genius deduction skills I know.

I've been floating here for a while now, and it's been pretty boring to be honest. I mean at first the novelty was kinda cool, since I seem to have no limbs and in fact no body at all, but after a while the novelty wore off and now I'm just bored.

So I was just floating there, minding my own business and bemoaning the utter lack of stimulation (though the noticeable lack of headaches was certainly welcome) when a feminine voice said from behind me "What the hell are you supposed to be?"

Casting my (metaphorical eyes around, I saw a women floating behind me, and she was HOT! I mean seriously, 11/10, Aphrodite-level gorgeous (yeah, and before you say anything YES I am 100%, fully a lesbian - and proud of it, bitch).

I clear my (again metaphorical) throat and try to reply politely, as this is my first interaction with anything at all in a REALLY long time.

"Hi, my name is Evangeline, but you can call me Evie. And what's your name?"

"Well, you are a calm one, aren't you, and polite too. Very well, my name is Katherine, but what are you doing here, little soul? Why aren't you in the Sea of Souls, waiting to be reincarnated? Wait, when did you die?"

"Well, Miss Katherine, I've been here for a while so I'm not exactly sure, my memory's a little fuzzy, but I think it was the 21st of March, 2018 when I died, why?"

She covered her mouth with her hands and gasps.

"Oh my, I am SO sorry this is all my fault. I was late to the office that day because my boyfriend dumped me and I was pissed, I must have missed you when you were sent up." She was getting more and more flustered by the second and I reflexive tried to comfort her.

"Hey, it's okay, it's fine, we all have our bad days right?"

She looks and me, sniffles a little and gives me a small smile.

"Really? You're not mad?"

Honestly, I am a little irritated that my crappy boredom was caused simply by a late (goddess?) office worker, but I get the feeling that sympathy will get me farther that anger.

"I am a little, to be honest, but what's done is done, right? Anyway, what usually happens to people when they die?"

Katherine stands a little straighter and replies "Well, what usually happens is rebirth. The soul is put into the Sea of Souls, their memories are wiped and then they are put into an unborn foetus to be reborn. To you, however, I will give a choice, seeing as it's my fault you spent so long in isolation."

Well, that sounds interesting.

"What sort of choice?"

"Have you ever read a Light Novel? You know, with the reincarnation and the different worlds, usually with a SYSTEM or some sort of cheat. Often LitRPG or cultivation novels, but that's more of a personal preference."

Huh. Well, that does sound kinda cool, although...

"How much control would I have about where I end up, or who I end up as? I mean, I don't want to be reincarnated just to die like immediately, after all, that would suck."

"How about this. Since I owe you big-time, how about if and when you die, you get sent back to me for another go?"

Wow. "Are you sure? I mean, aren't you breaking the rules for me already?"

"Nah, this is actually a thing gods do sometimes for kicks. I've never tried it myself, I've alway been too busy, but no one should begrudge me a little downtime to help you out."

"Well... if you're sure..."

She grinned and clapped her hands, and everything went white.
