"Why do you fear them?"she whispered seeming as if she would make a louder sound, the world would have disappeared before her eyes."Because," He replied tightly grasping his sparkling crimson jewelled compass"If they would disappear one day-"He took a long deep breath before finishing his sentence"well,"He spoke again while looking straight into Mia's sparkling hopeful eyes anticipating for the answer.
He closed his eyes beginning to open his mouth as Mia kept growing impatient and more anxious
"WHAT IS IT?! Chance, what have you been hiding from me this whole time?Do you not trust me? I thought i was your only shoulder to lean on?What happened to that!"
Shocked, she covered her mouth while both of their eyes widened .
"Sir, I just heard something! It came from the bushes I swear!"
"Hurry up then you fools, why are you wasting my time !"
Chance tightly grasped Mia's hand as they quickly rushed out of the crispy grass they were sitting on and sprinted as fast as they could getting lost in a deep, dingy and uninviting forest in front of them.With one swift motion, Chance quickly embraced Mia while covering her mouth and hid behind a tree as they heard countless men shouting and gun shooting which made them shrivel in utter tremulous fear.
Chance's hand began o shake and tremble with anxiety as he heard footsteps progressively grow further and further towards them a making his heart beat even faster.Suddenly, he heard soft sniffling and whimpering from Mia who he had tightly embraced.
"shh shh, it's ok, don't worry, it's dark anyway, I bet they'll just give up and go away , there's a low chance that they'll find us."
He consoled the little girl while patting her back and holding her tightly against her chest.
"Did you find him?"
"No sir, but I'm certain I heard a yell just now from behind the trees.I swear on my life that I'll find them sir, and I won't disappoint you, not like last time, not again."
His frown gradually turned into a sinister and menacing crooked grin as he asked again with pleasure lighting up his wrinkly, old face.
"You swear on your life?" He chuckled amusingly
"Yes"
Chance started to tremble even more holding his tears in and forcing a smile for Mia.
"w-what if they find us ?"She whispered with fear lining her voice .
"They won't , and even if they do somehow , I'll make sure your safe-I promise."
"No, if your going down, I'm going down with you."She replied with a determined smile as she gripped his hand tightly.
Time had felt like it was going slower and slower almost as if it was mercilessly teasing the two as they hopelessly stood behind the tree waiting for the coast to be crystal clear.
2 hours which felt like an eternity, went by and a groggy , cranky voice raged with anger,
"You pathetic jerk!You swore by your life that you would find them!,now you'll pay ..."
After that, all that was heard was a dreadful and helpless shriek begging for help and a gun shot.
Chance slowly peered around the tree waiting for a sign that everything was ok and that the coast was clear.He gradually stepped out as he took a huge sigh of relief and checked his pocket just to clearly make sure that he still had his beloved compass with him.He searched around his back pocket and finally took it out closing his eyes and smiling with pure delight , holding it tightly close to his chest he whispered gently.
"We'll get through this , just you wait."
