Third person point of view
Joshua woke up and finished his routine and walked to the kitchen to find it empty. He walked to Elijah's room and slowly opened the door. He saw Elijah was still sleeping. He walked in slowly and observed Elijah. He put his hand on Elijah's forehead. It was normal. He let out a sigh of relief and walked to the kitchen.
He took out some cereal and milk. Once he was done, he wrote a note for Elijah and left the house. He sat in his chair in the office and thought of Elijah. He didn't wake him up, but he was slightly worried that he might be sick. He still had a doubt even after checking considering how Elijah didn't even wake up for workout.
Elijah woke up later and saw the time. It was half past 11. He rubbed his eyes. He ran a hand through his hair and sat up. He walked out of the room and into the kitchen. He saw a note stuck on the fridge. It read : ' You were sleeping so I didn't wake you up. I don't know if you are sick, so text me as soon as you see this note '.
Elijah smiled and walked to his room again. He picked up his phone to send a text to Joshua.
Elijah : Hey.
Joshua was waiting the whole time to get a text from Elijah. When he got a notification, he immediately picked up his phone.
Joshua : Hey.
Elijah : Sorry I didn't make breakfast today.
Joshua : What are you saying ? Why are you even sorry ? It is fine. The world is not going to end.
Elijah chuckled.
Joshua : Are you not feeling well ?
Elijah : No, nothing like that. I slept late last night, so I overslept.
Joshua : Okay. But tell me if you are sick.
Elijah : I am totally fine. Also I will make up to you with dinner.
Joshua : I told you it is fine.
Elijah : I want to.
Joshua sighed shaking his head.
Joshua : Do as you please.
Elijah smiled.
Joshua : I have work to do. Got to go. Bye. See you.
Elijah : Bye.
He typed something else... but deleted at the end and only sent a bye. He put his phone aside and walked to the bathroom. He came out freshly showered and dressed up. He made a cup of coffee and sat on the couch sipping it. Joshua let out a sigh of relief. He got back to work without any worries after confirming. His mind was working at full speed again.
Joshua opened the door and entered the house. He turned around after closing the door. He found himself being hugged by Elijah. Joshua chuckled. " What is it ? " Elijah pulled away. " I didn't see you this morning ". Joshua laughed. " It is only a few hours ". He sat on the couch with Elijah right beside him.
" Still ". Joshua shook his head smiling. " Why did you go to sleep so late ? " Elijah shrugged. " Just lost in thought I guess ". Joshua rolled his eyes. " You have all day to do that. Why do you want to sacrifice your sleep to do that ? So sleep at night and think during day ". Elijah chuckled. " Okay ". Joshua shook his head smiling.
He got up and went to the kitchen and Elijah followed him. He looked around and found some juice. Elijah sat down on the chair. " Want some ? " Joshua asked and Elijah shook his head. Joshua picked out the chocolate milk. " This ? " Elijah nodded. Joshua laughed and gave it to Elijah. Joshua picked a glass and poured juice and sat down with it.
Elijah started sipping the chocolate milk. " Did you have any dreams when you were a kid ? " Joshua said putting his glass down. Elijah paused. " Dreams ? " Joshua nodded. Elijah looked down and shook his head with a small smile. " Really ? " Joshua moved forward resting his hands on the island. Elijah nodded.
" Why so ? There should be something you wanted to be at least once; even if it is just a thought ". Elijah chuckled. " Those I did have ". " What were they ? " Joshua was really curious to know about Elijah. He didn't really get a lot of answers from Elijah. But sometimes when he did give a proper answer it plucked at Joshua's heart.
" I did have but I wouldn't say I dreamed about being it. And it changed every day. One day I wanted to be a painter, the other day musician, the other day engineer, photographer, chef etc. It changed like day and night and none of them ever lasted long ". Joshua nodded. " But did you never want to try at least one of them for real ? " Elijah shook his head.
Joshua waited for Elijah to continue speaking. Not a lot of them would say they didn't have anything. It just made him more curious. Elijah did speak again. " Some of them are things that I only wanted to do because I like them. More like a hobby. I wasn't interested in going as far as learning about them and picking them as a career. As for others.... how do I put it ? "
Elijah thought for a second looking around. " Umm... If there is this thing that you like. You try it out and you are some where around average at it. And as you continue and keep trying it out more, you become better in a certain amount of time without way too much effort ". He nodded to himself and turned to look at Joshua.
" It was something like that. When I reached that stage I lost interest in it. I already know what it is like and I don't want it anymore. I end up leaving it in the way and won't go back to it. Or just do it from time to time. I don't have a longer attention span. I can't stick to something for a long time. So I can't do something for real ".
Joshua's eyebrows shot up. " Have you ever tried doing something for real though ? " Elijah shook his head. Joshua frowned. " Why ? " Elijah ran his finger on the edges of the tetra pack and spoke after a few seconds. " If you know you are predestined to do something in your life, would you try to do something else ? Even... "
Elijah looked up at Joshua. " Even if you know you can't escape it ? " Elijah finished and just stared at Joshua. Joshua couldn't decipher the expression in Elijah's eyes. He didn't know what it was. His gaze was way too real unlike his blank expression. Joshua shook his head as an answer. Elijah shrugged like saying 'there goes your answer'.
Joshua picked up the glass drinking the juice. Elijah looked away and finished the remaining chocolate milk in one go. He threw the pack away and sat back down. " What about you ? What was your dream ? " He was back to his normal self. Joshua didn't know what to say of this shift in Elijah's eyes and character. He decided to just act like it's nothing since Elijah was doing that.
" I did have a few like you said. But one was, I wanted to be an astronaut as a kid ". Joshua chuckled. " Wow ". Elijah said smiling. " Not really. After studying and understanding things, it didn't feel like my thing and then later I just studied what I liked and wanted to get a good job. And here I am today. Like this ". Joshua said showing himself.
" You are smart though. Why did you not try it at least ? " Elijah asked resting his face on his hand. " I am not really sure. But it just didn't feel like my thing anymore later on. I left it at that ". Joshua nodded. " I really admire people who have dreams and goals. It is so cool ". Elijah said smiling. Joshua stopped and looked at Elijah who was smiling. He shrugged.
" It isn't a big thing ". Elijah nodded. " Maybe. But I do think it is ". Elijah smiled and got up walking out of the kitchen. Joshua felt like Elijah meant it. He meant every word he just told him. He finished his juice and put it away. He went and saw Elijah watching a cooking show again. He didn't know Elijah completely.
But when they just chatted it felt like he saw the Elijah he didn't know. Unlike his usual easy going self, he saw a different side. It looked like Elijah didn't want to talk about it any more. So Joshua decided to drop it too. He will have more chances to dig up more from Elijah anyway. He believed Elijah will tell him when he wanted to. He smiled and walked to sit beside Elijah.
