I yelled fully expecting an answer but got none. I began to lose my composure and frantically look around. I spun around in circles trying to find the source of the small voice. I nervously laughed as my eyes settled on the dead girl's slightly leaking bullet hole. I heard something shift somewhere in the front of the basement, it took forever to gather some courage to brandish my pistol and started to scan the room... Whipping my attention around the room. Occasionally stopping to examine the area. It was starting to become fun, sorta like a game of extreme tag well that is until I found a girl standing there. I kid you not I shit my pants. I was mid rotation so there was no way to know what I saw for sure. When I did a double take I didn't find anyone I ran and made sure to check all the small nooks and crannies in that area.
My hair stood on end, this was not okay. I had no time to calm down, someone is here! There was shuffling and crying and sniffling happening all over the basement. And when all that horrid noise anally went silent. I heard a loud shakey inhale. I whipped around frantically and was met with The sight of another shadowy little girl if it was humanly possible I would have shit out my heart.
I stormed back to the dead pile of shit and scrutinized the body, while doing so I heard a few more heavy breaths and I swear I watched her chest rise and fall so I shot to my feet and fired four more times.
I've never had to reload Benadryl before but after this I would. How long has it been?... Seven years? Damn too long. I wiped my forehead and froze. I didn't notice but now the basement was spiking in temperature sending sweat beads down my back and face.
' What the fuck?'
" Wrong! That was a cop. " The little Girl's voice sang out in the distance. I couldn't tell you what was going on even if I wanted to. I once again started whipping around trying to end this nightmare I covered my ears as the crying started to get louder again. I tried to trick the little one to come out by acting nice.
"Come out little one we can play, just not here." I called out shuffling towards the stars. But you know what they say speak of the devil and he shall appear. The little girl appeared on the bottom step of the staircase to freedom. She stood here just staring at me passively. Her outfit and face looked so... Familiar I couldn't quite place it.
"Come here sweetie... Are you lost?" I stuck my hand out in an effort to seem kind and helpful.
" No... Don't touch me " she was muttering so I couldn't hear her so I stepped a bit closer and tried hear her better
" Huh? I'm sorry I didn't -" I reached out for her and tried to scoot closer.
" I said... Don't touch me..." the basement lights flickered the girls expression darkened and much me snuffle backwards. Her words fell out like heavy bricks each word uttered made my world crumble faster. I listened as the crying children started wailing, as a pain in my chest started with a prick and slowly worsened.
... Don't...
I reached out to the little girl and noticed the blood that was dripping off of my hands and forearms I shook my hands off instinctively getting blood all over the place. I know I didn't touch any blood. How do I have this much on my hands?
'What is going on? What is this?'
... Touch...
I looked up to see the girl was bleeding from her forehead. I couldn't help it, I had to ask.
"Are you okay? I could help you. Do you need help? "I challenged myself despite the pain in my chest and took a step forward only to hear all of the wailing stop and a strange sound echo through the basement but couldn't tell what they were.
... Me...
" You don't remember me?" The question echoed along with the other sound. I watched as the little girl moved for the first time her head cocking to the side.
" How about now?" I raised an eyebrow in confusion. I wasn't quite paying attention, I was actually mentally debating pushing the creepy little shit out of the way. The light flicked and the Little girl disappeared. I no longer land what the voices were saying I wanted out. Out of this basement, out of this building, out of this state! After storming all the way up the long staircase I started pulling and twisting the door knob and shit out my heart again... The door was locked. Hysteria started settling in like a mountain of bricks on my chest. I was feeling lightheaded. I started laughing nervously and quickly turned into a psycho laugh. I lost my composure and started banging and kicking the door screaming for help at the top of my lungs.
" Help! Help me! Get me out of here! Get me out! Let me ooouuuuuuuuuut!!!"
I started to bang harder. I wanted out, I needed out. I swear on my mothers grace that I saw a shadow outside of the door and then watched it disappear after I heard the lock softy click.
I pushed out the basement and bolted for the front door stomping on the wooden splinters and slinking away towards the door I could almost touch the threshold of the crumbling building, the cold afternoon air freezing my sweat.
" Leave! Leave! Leave! Get out! Go! Please!"
I was almost there my extended hand touched the empty doorway to support my limping body and then something tightly wrapped itself around my ankle throwing my poor balance off and toppled to the ground. I twisted my body to see down to my ankle. My foot was Looped in the handle of a suitcase. I kicked my foot free and made an effort to crawl away highly disturbed by the random appearance of such an old suitcase. I was almost on my feet when someone grabbed my shoulders and flung me onto my back. I squeezed my eyes closed.
'Please help me! No! No! Please!'
I finally opened my eyes to see exactly who it was
