"Why didn't you mention that first when you walked in?" I asked annoyed
"Elena, you and I both know that if I had mentioned that first while you were busy daydreaming, you still wouldn't have heard me. If you didn't hear your name, or the bangs against your room door, what made you think you would have heard me. I couldn't have said that first, I needed to get your attention" Kevin said
I opened my mouth to speak, but I was speechless.
"What did you want to say, correct me if I'm wrong" Kevin said. "Your dress is lovely by the way" he added
"Thank you" I simply said.
Kevin reached for my heels, and he helped me put it on.
"Alright, you're set, let's go" he said and we both left my room.
Lorenzo was seated on an armchair, all curled up in his phone.
Kevin faked a cough to get Lorenzo's attention, "Ahem!" but Lorenzo paid no attention.
Kevin then let go of my hand, and he crossed over to Lorenzo's side.
"Lorenzo, dude, she's ready" Kevin whispered, but Lorenzo still paid no attention.
I placed my hand over my mouth and I laughed silently.
"I'm ready Lorenzo" I said softly and immediately, Lorenzo kept his phone aside.
"Oh Wow" Kevin said and he shook his head in disappointment.
"You look gorgeous Elena" Lorenzo said
"Thank you" I said and I courtesyed
Lorenzo stretched out his arm for me to grab, and we walked out. Kevin walked behind us. We got to Lorenzo's car, and just like a gentle man, he held the door out for me.
"Aren't you coming?" I suddenly asked Kevin.
"Oh no, my evening is planned." Kevin answered
"You can't leave me alone with me" I whispered to Kevin.
"Relax, this isn't your first time...trust me." Kevin said
"Uhmm hello....I'm still recovering from my last accident, my memories are still joggy" I said
"Just picture me there, or act like he's me, just a better version." Kevin said
"How will that help?" I whispered back to Kevin
"Honestly....it won't, just kidding...there's no way he can play a better version of me. Hmmmm- come to think of it, I don't know if I can play a better version of me either" Kevin said
Gosh- he's annoying
"I'm serious Kevin...help!" I said, just then, Lorenzo got into the car.
Kevin burst into laughter, "Relax, Lorenzo really is a cool guy....everything would turn out well"
"Lorenzo, she's in your care for the night, I trust you'll take care of her. You two have a lovely time okay" Kevin said to Lorenzo.
"Thanks" Lorenzo said with a smile.
"Night love" Kevin said to me and he waved goodbye.
The car ride was long and awkward. At some point, I turned on the radio and tuned into several radio stations, but there wasn't anything pleasing to listen to, so I just switched it off.
"So uhmm..." Lorenzo said breaking the silence "....do you like jokes?" he asked
"Yeah...do you have any to tell?" I asked in reply
"Oh yeah" he said excitedly "Do you remember that joke I told you about my spine?"
I stared at him for a while, just confused at what he had just said.
If I can't remember you, why would I remember a joke you told me- I wanted to say.
"It was about a weak back" he said
"What?" I said
I watched him adjust his collar awkwardly. "Okay I've got another" he said
Oh wait! that was a joke....geez....what? That was terrible, but I can't why I felt like laughing.
"Why do seagulls fly over the sea?" he asked
"Uhhmmm...I don't know, why"
"Because if they flew over the bay, they would be called bagels" he answered
"That was terrible" I said a d I burst into laughter. He laughed as well.
"Oh really, I'll like you to say something better" he said, and he smiled after.
"Alright...uhhmmm- I have a good one. Why do they tel actors to break a leg?" I said
"LOL, WHY?" He said
"Because every play has a cast" I said
A frown settled on his face, and a shiver ran down my spine.
Was he against such jokes? Or does he have friends in the acting industry that finds such joke offensive.
"Where did you hear that?" he asked with a firm voice
"I can't remember...I know its awful" I said and I snapped my forehead with the back of my palm. "I'm sorry, did the joke offend you?" I said softly
"Oh no, why would you think that?" he asked
"You looked offended" I answered
"No i wasn't honestly." he admitted. "Your dry jokes are terrible, I'm better" he added
"No I'm not, I just couldn't think of a joke....and that was all that came to my mind. By the way, where are we heading? We are almost out of town."
"You'll see, just relax" he said calmly
I looked out the window, as we drove past trees and few houses. Some pedestrians had some loads lying on the back of some donkeys. Some had farm tools in their hands, which only meant that they were farmers.
"Alright...one last game, no dry jokes" Lorenzo suddenly said
"Sure...what game?" I asked interested
"Hmm...how about, I SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE?" he said
"Sure, I'll go first" I said
"As you wish" he said
"I spy with my little eye....uhmm...a young man looking sharp in hi fancy toxedo" I said
"Really....where!" he asked curiously
"You silly. I was indirectly complementing your look tonight" I answered and he laughed.
"Okay my turn. I spy with my little eye...our dinner reservation" he said and the car came to a stop.
I looked around, confused. There's was nothing but trees and more road, both behind us and before us. "I can't see anything"
"Hold up, let me park the car properly" he simply said.
Lorenzo got out of the car and he rushed over to my side. He opened the door, and be helped me out like a gentleman. He brought out a piece of cloth and asked, "Do you trust me?"
I nodded in reply, and without any further delay, he blind folded me.
He placed an arm around my waist, and his other hand hand one of my hands. We walked for some time, and I was getting tired.
Where was this guy leading me too? Hope I hadn't made a mistake.
"Just stand right here" Lorenzo said a d he let go of me instantly. I obeyed, but I soon got impatient.
Soft music began to play, a d I got a scent of burning candles- the scent type actually.
What was Lorenzo up too?
"Alright, you can take off the blind fold" I heard him say.
I immediately took the blind fold off, and what I saw next came as a shock.
Lorenzo had a bright smile on his face.
He was standing next to a table surrounded with slightly dimmed orange lights, all arranged in the shape of a heart. A bottle of wine and two wine glasses, stood out on the table.
The atmosphere was cool and we were surrounded with beach sand.
The table faced a water body- the ocean.
The stars shone brightly above us.
I took a moment to marvel at the site.
"You can take off your heels if you want to, it won't hurt to get a little sand on those pretty toes of yours." Lorenzo said.
I took of my heels and Lorenzo took of his shoes and his tuxedo. I approached the table and he held out a chair for me to seat. I took my seat a d Lorenzo served us dinner. I couldn't believe he prepared my favourite meal- ARROZ CUBANO.
"I know it's your favourite dish. It might not be as good as your mum's, but please manage my cooking." Lorenzo said softly
"Thank you" I said nicely and I smiled. "This is quite a beautiful site, i love it. Its quiet, cool, private, and it's a pretty good place to relax. How did you come across this place.?" I added
Lorenzo answered taking his seat, "For starters, I proposed to you right here. Secondly, you brought me here. You said you often came here to relax your mind, after the busy day was over. Then sooner, it became you and I's favourite place."
"You proposed to me here?" I asked shocked
"Yes I did" he simply answered. "I know you still have no memory of that night, but I hope it comes flowing back." he said
We both began to eat, but we ate silently. I felt bad for Lorenzo. I can't imagine the pain he is going through just because I couldn't remember him.
Imagine if my mother had an accident and she says she can't remember me being her daughter. That would hurt.
I spotted a book right on a stool next to Lorenzo. Its cover was quite inviting.
"What's that?" I asked pointing at the book.
"Oh....its a photo album." he answered
"Can I see?" I asked softly
"Sure" he answered and he handed the book over to me.
Lorenzo got up from his seat and he brought his chair closer to where I sat.
I didn't mind anyways.
"Why did you bring it?" I asked
"I just thought maybe I could show you a few pictures of the both of us." he answered
"Okay" I said
Some pictures had beautiful backgrounds, some had I, Lorenzo and Kevin. They were pictures of the three of us at a soccer game, some at a bowling joint, and even here at the beach.
"I thought you said this was our favourite place" I said to Lorenzo
"Yes it is" Lorenzo answered
"But Kevin is here" I said
"Oh....yeah.." He began to say and he smiled. "Firstly, Kevin doesn't come here often. He was in those pictures because that was the day I proposed to you. He assisted me in getting everything set that night." Lorenzo explained
"Seriously!" I sounded amused
"Yeah" he answered
I looked through some more pictures, but I felt bad for not remembering a single event.
Lorenzo rose from his seat and he turned to me. He held out his hand for me to grab.
"Will you dance with me?" he asked
"Yes" I responded
We slowed dance to some slow songs, then we both played a little in the water, before we resumed our slow dance. Lorenzo's arms were wrapped around my waist, and my hands were around his shoulders.
"Nothing in this world can compare to your beauty Elena, not even the world's most rarest and beautiful flowers. There's no day I don't thank God or show my appreciation for creating you. Mi AMOR" Lorenzo said softly
I stared into his eyes, a d it felt like I could see right through him. He leaned a bit closer to me to kiss me, but I withdrew back.
I didn't know why I did that- how foolish of me...
"It's getting late Lorenzo. I don't want to bother my brothers" I said
"No problem" he simply said, but his voice was....how do I describe it...he sounded down, and I felt sad.
He let go of me, a d he began to tidy up the table. I offered to help, but he told me not to bother, and there wasn't much to do anyways.
When he was done, i picked up his shoes and mine, but he told me to leave them where they were and he would come get them. But I refused, stubbornly.
He led me back to tha car, and he kept the food basket, lights, and some other stuffs in the car truck.
"What about the tables? Aren't we taking them?" I asked
"No...don't worry about that. It's a private spot. No one goes that far anyways." he answered.
