Chapter 4 - Forest (2)

Kwang ordered the teachers to make little squadrons, his orders were clear and concise. The task was to scout around the edges of the forest. Kwang emphasised the importance of not going too deep in the forest because just like seraph he had also recognized the dangers of the forest.

Kwang was very cautious; he laid a detailed plan on the ground with a stick. The plan made it so if one group has a problem there would always be another group nearby to help out with the problem. In the case that one group does have a problem the word would get spread out quickly and the whole entire school goes back to the center.

Kwang took Shi-Won, a couple of other students and ventured into the forest leaving the teachers to make up their own small squadrons.

Seraph was in a group of people, he found that his time in this place was better. People didn't tease him, but nearly all of them didn't talk to him. Just like before he was isolated but this time he liked the isolation, he had more free time to think.

Seraph's group consisted of him, his teacher, two guys and two girls. The two guys were archers, while the one girl was an assassin and the other was a warrior. The teacher, Mr. Zhu had insisted that Seraph would stick with him no matter what happened. Seraph was unable to fight, the strange light that gave everyone their equipment didn't give seraph anything at all, not even a staff that the wizards used. Which made him quite effectively useless in battle.

Mr. Zhu was a warrior, with a big wooden shield and an iron sword and dagger on his waist. After learning that Seraph was useless he made sure to put him in his group and to also protect him. He was currently walking in front of the group with his shield present, while telling the two archers in the group to scout the area while he protected everyone.

Seraph was surprised by Mr. Zhu's change of tone, just earlier he was scolding him in class and ignoring the constant bullying he received but now he had done a complete 180 and was acting as if Seraph was a puppy. Mr. Zhu had even repeatedly asked if Seraph needed anything at all or if he had noticed something, including him in the team.

'Did he hit his head too hard on the fall?' Seraph didn't trust Mr. Zhu's sudden change of character.

Mr.Zhu turned slightly and saw Seraph looking at him, he hesitated and then went back to surveying the ground "Hey, Seraph…" He said with a sigh

Before Seraph could say anything Mr. Zhu continued "I'm sorry." he sighed once more "I'm sorry for not helping you, I'm sorry for being a dick to you…"

Seraph stared at him, " It- It's alrig-"

Mr. Zhu interrupted, "It's not alright, I've done some terrible things haven't i? Listen kid… I know what you've gone through. What i've done has not made it better at all…" He struggled with his words and eventually struggled out "Now that we're here in this new 'paradise' I just want to apologize."

Seraph understood what Mr. Zhu was attempting to say, 'He wants to place what happened in school behind us. He wants to move forward,' He smiled, 'Holding this hatred and uneasiness in my heart isn't good for my health...'

"It's really okay, Mr. Zhu and thank you." Mr. Zhu smiled in response and then went back to his searching.

An hour later, Loud shouts echoed throughout the forest and soft signs of a scuffle were heard back at the camp. Seraph's team didn't go far from the camp, they made little progress because of how inept the archers were at scouting and how slow the team was going.

Mr. Zhu Immediately headed to the front and started to lead them back to the camp, The shouts from the side weren't screams of pain or signs of battles; it was the signal that something had happened to one group. However, both groups were screaming and the group behind him which was supposed to be the camp was screaming in pain which meant that Mr. Zhu didn't need to worry about his sides. However, this also meant that something happened at camp.

Seraph was shaken, He stuck close to Mr. Zhu who led the group. Mr. Zhu asked Seraph to back up a bit if the situation was dire he would rather have Seraph run away than stick around.

Mr. Zhu's group no longer was scouting carefully and were sprinting back to the camp, which was way faster than scouting and recording their surroundings through memory. After some time they arrived back at the edge of camp.

Screams and shouts sounded throughout the air, Growls and roars overwhelmed them, spreading waves of fear through Seraph's body. The clashing of metal and wood constantly echoed in the air causing him to have goosebumps.

'It sounds like a real battlefield… ' Seraph tightly grasped his hands and got closer to Mr. Zhu who didn't push him away this time. Even he was scared.

Mr. Zhu looked at his scared students and his face was filled with deep lines but he then rallied them, "Your friends and classmates are in trouble! They need are help!" He unsheathed his sword and circled it in the air before charging through the shrubbery into the clearing.

Seraph paused for a second, frozen. Then he followed after the archers, immediately the sounds of battle in his ear grew clearer. It was as if the forest was muffling the sounds of battle even though they were only a few distances away.

His eyes took it all in, Warriors were charging forward throwing their shields and bodies against massive black wolves that charged through their ranks clawing and swinging their bodies against them. The archers were stationed at the back shooting arrows constantly however they were faulty and horrible sometimes they even accidentally shot the warriors in front, who were forced to fall back.

The front line was failing, the back line wasn't even helping a bit. Inept mages were desperately chanting spells but in front of the huge wolves in front of them some of them were simply no help at all. While the assassins… were all cowering away from the fight only a few of them were going up to fight.

What attracted his eyes the most was the blood on the wolves claws and bodies. He looked down toward the ground where the group of warriors were fighting to find chewed up corpses, some were missing limbs.

"ROAR!" Another roar was followed by a blood curdling scream "AHH!!" The female warrior's neck was chomped and the wolf pulled his full weight onto her body dragging her to the ground cruelly. She swung her sword wildly about, then another wolf circled her and bit her arm, breaking it sharply pulling his head he exposed the meat on her arm, the wolf seemed to have intelligence because after mutilating her weapon arm he went straight to battle.

Seraph at the edges of battle could only witness as the Female warrior who cried out for help was savagely pulled into the forest by the wolf.

The scene scared everyone. The wolves weren't numerous in fact the class outnumbered the wolves heavily. It was just that the teachers weren't helping, the principal who could command this situation was nowhere to be seen… and the wolves were showing no fear when fighting them.

Seraph felt his knees go weak and he fell on the ground, He could only helplessly watch the situation until a cool feeling came over his body and a message appeared in front of his eyes.

[Extreme Emotions detected]

[Extreme Emotions nullified]

His head immediately cleared and his body was back under his control immediately, He raised his hands and was surprised 'What the…'

He then heard a manly shout echo from the battle field, He immediately drew his eyes up to watch. In the front lines he saw Mr. Zhu suddenly appear in front of a wolf slamming his shield into their temple causing it to stumble back. Then he saw a golden flash of light immediately come next to the wolf, then a shiny sword immediately came down from the side.

The sword took the wolves head, The owner of the sword looked across the field and shouted "Push them back! We outnumber them!" it was Shi-Won, he was accompanied by his train of followers. He stood out among them all, he had slightly fancier armor than everyone here and also a fancier sword.

A warrior at the front lines was injured by a claw from a wolf, causing him to scream out in pain. Then he immediately moaned as a white light came over him. Then a huge hammer swung across the field and slammed into the wolf that was going in for a pounce.

Seraph traced where the hammer came from to see two seductive girls walking toward the battle field, Astrid Grand and the student president named Xu Xun. Xu Xun wore cleric garbs with some chainmail drooped over her and a huge shield in her grasp. While Astrid had the common blue mage uniform paired with a huge staff and floppy wizard hat.

Xu Xun, Immediately charged forward while Astrid started to chant, a small red flame forming in front of her palm. The morale of the students immediately increased twice fold. Seeing these power houses charge forward made them brave.

Another person caught Seraph's eye, 'John?'

John was in the front line, he was one of the warriors who had just arrived. He immediately came forward and pierced his short spear through one wolf while his foot kicked a wolf that pounced toward him. He looked more like an expert than Shi-Won who could only fight one wolf at a time with the aid of his team.

Seraph had gotten off the ground, He no longer felt fear. However, he didn't go further either… his skill set didn't really allow for any combat so he could only sit and watch them fight. His eyes focused on John, he kept on staring at John's spear.
