Seconds later, she understood those words were directed to someone behind her. She could sense relief in his eyes for a fraction of second but when his gaze was shifted upon her, they turned ice cold.
"What kind of a person are you?" his next question brought her back to her senses. She felt his words like a crashing waves, drifting her thoughts away from her imaginary world. He was glaring at her which only made difficult for her to analyse the situation around her.
"Excuse me?" she asked, bewildered.
"Don't you think you need to call the police when you find a person so that they would contact her family? Didn't you think how worried her family might be? How can a woman of your age be so irresponsible?" The man reproached, it took her few seconds to comprehend the situation and the commotion around. It was for the old woman whom Amelia brought to her house.
"She took care of me." the old woman cut down his words and pressed his hand from speaking further. The man shot a glare at Amelia before he looked at the old woman again.
"I apologize on behalf of my grandson. Thank you for taking care of me. I had a great time and I will see you soon, hopefully."
The woman smiled and sounded apologetic before she and her grandson turned, facing their back to Amelia to reach their car. Amelia's fist was tightened. She could not bear the way the man spoke to her. How dare he? She did think that he was looking handsome but could not let him degrade her using such tone, not when she hasn't done anything wrong but little did she realise that she too yelled at a stranger few nights ago.
"Excuse me Mr..." Amelia raised her voice for his attention and the man turned back to meet her eyes. Amelia marched to him in rage and saw confused and unapologetic face which added oil to her burning rage. He clearly knew that the mistake was on his side and not hers, yet he didn't apologize and threw his frustration upon her instead of being grateful.
"How dare you throw your tantrum upon me when you couldn't even protect your grandmother?!" Amelia spoke to him in fury as she took heavy breath.
"I would've found her hours ago if you didn't hide her in your house without informing the police." was his reply with a stern, expressionless face and Amelia was stunned by his words. The way he replied left her speechless.
"Thank you for taking care of me," she heard the old woman speak to her.
Amelia looked at the old woman's pale face and bent down to reach the window of the car when the old woman opened glass completely for Amelia to speak to her.
"Take care of yourself, Granny," Amelia said softly and then stepped back when the old woman nodded in reply as a yes. Amelia shot a disgusted glare at the man whom she started to hate to the core. He looked at her with his mysterious expression and without exchanging a word, he scooped into the car. "Ungrateful bastard." Amelia said to herself and stood on the road to see the car until it disappeared into the thin air. Never in her life has anyone dared speak to her in such tone. Amelia stomped her feet till she reached the door of her house while being cautious not to trip on the snow. If Amelia was given a chance to wish something at this moment, she would undoubtedly wish not to see that man again in her life.
As she was going to shut the door, she saw a young woman walking towards her house. She was Skylar Byrne, the stranger she met at the airport who was now her roommate. After coming to Kinsale, Amelia decided to stay with Skylar for the time being.
"Why are you standing here?" Skylar asked. Her question made Amelia realise to give her space to come inside as she was blocking the way by standing at the principal door.
"You are late today," Amelia pointed.
"I know. Was caught up with something," Skylar answered taking deep breathe in and out. She looked exhausted.
"I'll serve the food. Freshen up and come quickly," Amelia said after shutting the door and Skylar nodded in agreement.
"I came across an old woman today." Amelia said to Skylar after she came out from the shower.
"Is it?" Skylar asked and waited for Amelia to complete her story.
"She was weak and couldn't walk. So, I brought her along with me to feed her something." answered Amelia in simple words.
Skylar smiled, "That's good."
"How was your day?" Amelia asked not wanting to drag the conversation of the old woman anymore because she didn't want to talk about her grandson, that would only ruin her mood.
"As usual. It was boring but busy," Skylar answered and then looked at Amelia when something struck her mind. The Skylar who was feeling restless, now had grin on her face which couldn't be ignore by Amelia.
"I'd be delighted if you explain me the reason behind that wide smile on your face, Sky," Amelia said, taking the last bite of her food.
"I was busy for the past few days and never got a chance to show you around. You never stepped out of the house since you came here, so I thought of taking you out to show Wickhurst. What do you say?" Amelia heard Skylar's words and instantly, her face was lit up.
"I would love to," came an instant reply from Amelia making Skylar chuckle.
