Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 I don't like my face

Nolen P.O.V

"Nolen!" I hear my mother call for me. I groan dreading the thought of going to school. "Nolen I know you hear me," My mother said coming into my room. Threw my covers over my face, hiding. "Nolen we do not have time for this, your brother is going to leave you" She grabbed my covers off of me and threw them on the floor. "Mom, stop" I sat up, facing her. "You have to go, you missed too much already"

"Do you like to see me get ridiculed at school?" I asked her, getting out of bed. "Because that's what happens everyday" I looked at my mirror. "I'm disgusted with the way I look" I looked back at her, "Do you really want me to get ridiculed?" I watched her frown, "Of course not but.."

"If that's so you wouldn't make me go," I told her, "Nolen get dressed" She grabbed my clothes from my closet, putting them on my bed. "I can't keep doing this with you, I'm sorry people treat you like this, I'm sorry I can't do anything about it" Hearing her say this hit a nerve with me. "You aren't sorry, you have no idea what this is like" She sighed to me, "Nolen get dressed," She told me as she left my room. I can't understand why she would put me through this. If she cared just a tiny bit then I wouldn't be like this, if she was just a good mother she wouldn't let this happen to me. I sighed getting dressed, trying to not look in the mirror. I walked down the stairs, seeing my brother, Julian, and his new best friend, Koda. They sat at the table talking to my mother. I watched Koda choke on his food as I walked in. "Ah, looks who's finally up" Julian smiled at me, "Can we leave?" I asked, wanting his friend to stop staring at me. "Don't be like that, and where are your manners?"

"What happened to all your grades, as soon as you and Sasha get into a fight you start failing all your classes?" I gave him a smirk. "What?" Our mom asked him, "You're failing?" With the look on his face, I couldn't help but chuckle to myself. "Mrs. Foster, please don't worry about his grades" Koda grins. "I am helping him with his work since I'm very smart," He said as he tried to balance a spoon on his nose. I watched Julian grab the spoon off of his nose, "You aren't helping my case" I couldn't help but burst into laughter. I hear my mom let out a soft sigh. "Well you boys should get going before you are all late" She smiled at us as she watched us leave. I sat in the back of my brother's car. I looked over at Julian, smiling at his phone. "Is it a text from Sasha?" I wondered, dying to know. "Yeah, we are back on speaking terms" I smiled. I like Sasha a lot, she has never given me dirty looks or anything like that. "Good, she should come over," I said, looking at the cars that go by. "Nah, we might fight again, give it a day or two"

"I don't want her over to talk to you, I want to hang out with her" I could see him roll his eyes from the corner of my eye. "She's not going to hang out with you" I felt hurt hearing that comes from his mouth. She is the one person I can call a friend. "Okay.." I said softly. A few seconds go by before arriving at my school. "Okay, get out nerd" I grabbed my bookbag and opened the car down, hoping out. I hated how I could feel their eyes on me, hear their whispers as I walked the halls to my class. I took my seat in the back of the class, away from people. I was never in the back until a few weeks ago when some girl pulled one of my stitches out.

My finger traced the new stitches that were added to my hand. I hate every part of my body. I sometimes even wish I died in that fire. I wouldn't be looked at. My mother could even have an easier life if I wasn't around. I wouldn't be like this if I was just gone. I have snapped from my daydream hearing the bell ring, starting my first class. At the end of the class, my hands felt dead from all the writing and my brain felt numb from all the reading. I haven't been to school in a few weeks so I also had tons of homework. The bell soon rang again signaling my next class. As I was walking, 3 students stopped me. They threw my bag to the floor, my books and papers going everywhere. They pushed me into the wall, calling me a freak, mummy. Just anything to hurt me, one of them tried pulling at my stitches but was unable because I was moving too much. "Let go of me" I begged, trying to push them away. "Leave me alone" I cried out for help. I watched another boy, come in and help me. He pushed the person holding me against the wall. He gave me time to run, to hide, to get away for once. I hind, hearing the other boy's cries and groans. I stayed there until the cries and groans stopped. I looked over to where the fight had happened. I saw the boy, he had different colors of skin on his body. Soon our eyes met. "Are you okay?" He asked me. I came out of my hiding spot. "Your stupid," I told him, "W-what?! How can you say that?"

"Your stupid for helping me" I watch his face change from angry to calm almost sad looking. "That doesn't make me dumb, it makes me brave," He told me, "No, you just dumb" I soon saw blood drip from his nose, I felt bad. I cowered away, I didn't help at all. I grabbed his wrist, "Where are you taking me?" He asked, "To the nurse, idiot"

"Oh, okay," He said, as he wiped his bloody nose with the back of his hand. "Gross," I said as we entered the nurse's office. "Ah, What happened," She asked as she had the boy sit down and lean forwards. "Now, Sam, how did this happen?"

I watched him open his mouth. "He ran into a locker" I lied to her, I remembered what happened last time when I told them the truth. "Is this true Sam?" She asked him.

"Y-yeah, yeah, I didn't even see it open" He smiled. "Okay, well, Nolen you can head back to class." She smiled, "Sam is in safe hands now" I nodded leaving the room. "Sam.." I said to myself with a small smile. "What an idiot.."
