Chapter 54 - 54 Birth and Arrival

Three important things happened in mid-July, Sveta gave birth to a daughter, news of the Swedes' attack reached Jazłowiec and the outbreak of the Cossack Uprising led by Hetman Marek Żmajło.

Everything was the same as in history, Gustaw Adolf in Livonia in the strength of 20,000 soldiers. Then the King personally led 7,500 infantry and 1,500 cavalry to Kokenhuza, abd the city fell after 16 days of siege, then the Swedes headed for Dorpat. After this information, I was sure that Gustaw Adolf was going to take over the entire line of the Dziwna River and cut off the Polish Lithuanian troops in Livonia from support. His next goals will be the cities of Mitawa and Birże, knowing his goals, I could inform the King, Hetman Sapieha and Hetman Radziwiłł, but I did not intend to do it ... It is said that success has many fathers, and failure is an orphan ... my successes will only have one father, unless I choose otherwise..

Similarly, I did not intend to interfere in Cossack affairs, at least not yet. The uprising will end in mid-October, a settlement will be signed, the Cossacks will swear, and Żmajło will be removed from power ... one of the reasons for my lack of intervention was my fear of changing history. After Żmajła lost power, the Cossacks will choose Michał Doroszenko as their leader, with whom I already had contacts and he was more friendly to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth... and my involvement in this might have changed history, so I preferred not to risk it.

On July 13th, my second child was born, and my first daughter ... this time I chose the name for the baby myself, I didn't want Sveta to come up with something stupid again. Surprisingly, she did not oppose my decision, and was even pleased with it. Our daughter was named Katarzyna Anna, but this was where the problem arose. Her brother had already taken care of documents and noble origin, but the Brzozowski family of the Belina coat of arms no longer existed. I could not give her the same coat of arms or surname. Which left me only two options, either to find another noble family or not to change her status to noble. In the future, I can find her a wealthy merchant for husband or give her to a convent... As a woman, she could not hold high positions, and the best thing that could happen to her was to become a rich widow, and that applied to all women, not only the low born.

My attitude towards children has not changed, I still did not like them, but I tried not to show it ... not only I had a problem with it. Teofila did not hide her dissatisfaction with the whole situation.

"You have another bastard. I'm a noblewoman, not only that I have to tolerate this peasant girl, I also have to tolerate the presence of her brats!!! I have to share the bed with her and do the ungodly things... Now I have to get down on my knees before these crossbreeds?!" (Teofila Tarło)

I looked at Teofila. Her face was a crimson mask with an angry grimace, a cold and ferocious look.

"Don't get angry, because anger is bad for your beauty ... and if you stop being beautiful, you will stop being worth 900 ducats ..." (MC)

"Boor!!!" (Teofila Tarło)

"... You don't have to get down on your knees in front of them, you only have to do it in front of me and you know for what purpose. I pay you for that. You wanted to learn painting, you wanted dresses and jewels. You got it all, and now you are trying to bite the hand that feeds you ... " (MC)

The tone of my voice was calm all the time, even lethargic ... I got up behind the desks, walked over to her, smiled slightly. I leaned over her and whispered.

"A dog that bites his master's hand is a dog that needs to be put down. I like your pussy, but don't overestimate your worth ... and now get on your knees and you know what to do." (MC)

I don't know if she got scared or not, but she did what I told her. Though her eyes were still angry.

"Life doesn't turn out the way you want and sometimes you may not like something, but you have to swallow it." (MC)

Two weeks later, a thousand Cossacks arrived in Jazłowiec. Among them were the colonels I asked for, Iwan, Ilya and Maksym. They temporarily stayed in Jazłowiec, and I ordered secretary Kowalski to gather people and build barracks near the city, and later a village where they could live and bring their families, if they have any.

(King / Grand Marshal / Vice Chancellor POV)

"So young Jazłowiecki was right." (Sigismund III Vasa)

"Yes, Your Majesty. Our people confirmed the presence of Swedish messengers in Zaporizhia. The King of Sweden will enter Lithuania with an army in a few days." (Grand Marshal)

"I AM THE KING OF SWEDEN !!! ... This Żmajło's rebellion was caused by the Swedes?" (Sigismund III Vasa)

"We don't know. A few priests walked among the Cossacks and chased them to rebellion in the name of defending the Orthodox faith." (Grand Marshal)

"Demned men and their cursed faith." (Sigismund III Vasa)

"Your Majesty, the Uniate Church causes a lot of controversy, we are facing the war. We have to make concessions with the Cossacks." (Vice Chancellor)

"What concessions?" (Sigismund III Vasa)

"Increasing the Cossack registry to 6,000. It will be expensive, but less than revolts. We can also promise another registry increase in a few years." (Vice Chancellor)

"Send a letter to Hetman Koniecpolski, if he is unable to defeat them, let him conclude an agreement with them ... we cannot allow ourselves for further rebellions." (Sigismund III Vasa)

"What's the news from Livonia?" (Vice Chancellor)

"Hetmans Sapieha and Radziwiłł, attack the Swedes, but separately. Our forces are smaller and divided there. Now Gustaw Adolf is going to Lithuania, so I'm afraid that we will not regain Livonia ... and if we regain it, it will only be at a high cost, for which we will not we can afford." (Grand Marshal)
