Nights' House – At Night

After waiting for dinner time I managed to lose my friends who were going to the Great Hall and went to the Room of Requirement, where I used the Vanishing Cabinet to go to my house.

After exiting the Vanishing Cabinet I found myself in my room, where the other pair had stayed, just to see my dad waiting for me.

"Hey big boy" my dad greeted me with a smile, coming over to hug me.

"Hey dad" I said hugging him back, "Is everyone here yet?" I asked after breaking the hug.

"All but Amelia, and the others are waiting for us in the living room," he said, opening his bedroom door and stepping out into the hall, with me following him.

"Hmm" I hummed thoughtfully, "Do any of you have any ideas what Amelia wants to talk to us about?" I asked.

"We're not at all sure," my dad said with a slight shrug, "But we think it's about the conversation she had with the Minister this morning."

"So she talked to the minister" I commented to myself.

"Yes, right after she showed everyone in the ministry atrium an unconscious and handcuffed Pettigrew." my dad said amused.

"Must have been an interesting scene" I snorted.

"To use the exact words Nick and Penny said to us, 'Ce fut un moment spectaculaire et satisfaisant!' whatever that means" my dad shrugged.

'Hmm, a spectacular and satisfying moment…' I mused, imagining the scene and not being able to stop an amused smile from appearing on my face.

My dad and I continued talking as we went down to the first floor, and when we reached the living room I saw Sirius, my mom and Cele, Nick and Penny, and the Tonks sitting there talking.

As soon as they noticed me, my mother and Penny got up and came over to me.

"Hi dear" my mom said hugging me, with me hugging her back. She then broke the hug to look at me, "You won't get in any trouble for leaving the castle, will you?"

"I would only be in trouble IF anyone found out I left the castle" I said waving my hand dismissively, and my mom rolled her eyes good-naturedly.

"And knowing my grandson, even if they found out he would still find a way to get away with it" Penny said, hugging me too.

"You bet" I said with a cocky smile.

After breaking the hug I then greeted everyone else in the living room.

I then sat down next to Tonks, who was present for this meeting as today was her day off from her training with Moody.

"So, do you know how long it will take for Amelia to arrive?" I asked.

"In the letter she sent it said she would be here around 7pm" my mom replied.

And listening to her, I looked at the clock that was over the fireplace, seeing that it was 6:49pm.

"Well, she's almost here then," I said.

As it was still some time before Amelia arrived we started talking, with me telling Tonks about how the Ravenclaw team won the last Quidditch match.

And as we talked I felt a strange magic rising from the fireplace, but in addition to the strange magic I also felt a familiar magic.

I was confused for a moment, until I saw some remnants of green flames among the orange flames.

"Oh, Amelia is coming," I said, getting the attention of the others.

"Yes" Nick said, also looking at the fireplace having felt some magic coming from it.

Nick's ability to sense magic wasn't as strong as mine, so he still hasn't felt Amelia's magic and only felt magic rise in the fireplace.

"How do you know that?" Tonks asked confused, and then started looking around, "And where is she?"

""Fireplace"" Nick and I replied.

Everyone then turned and looked at the fireplace, not noticing any abnormality, but after looking more closely they noticed the small green flames that appeared every now and then.

But as they looked into the fireplace I began to feel that the two magics coming from the fireplace were acting strangely.

"She's coming by Floo" Tonks said in realization.

"Hmm, I don't remember our fireplace being connected to Floo" my dad commented.

"Amelia probably had someone at the ministry connect our fireplace to their Floo network" I shrugged, but then frowned, 'But why is it taking so long?' I wondered.

"Yes, but don't we have a ward that blocks forms of magical transport not authorized by us?" my mom asked, and after she said that I stopped and blinked.

"Oh" I mumbled.

I then quickly got up to go to the center stone of the house's wards, knowing that I needed to authorize the use of Floo to allow Amelia to enter the house through the fireplace.

But as soon as I got up I felt the magics coming from the fireplace disappear, and I looked at it blankly for a moment, until a few seconds later someone rang the bell.

*Ding! Dong!*

At the sound of the bell, everyone looked at each other curiously.

"Who will it be at this hour?" my mom asked as she got up to go open the door.

And as soon as she opened the door and looked at the person who had rung the doorbell her mouth fell open in shock.

"A-Amelia?" my mom asked, looking at the very stern and respected head of the DMLE, who was staring blankly at her while her face and clothes were covered in ash and soot.

"My god, what happened to you?" my mother asked, pulling Amelia into the house, ignoring the respected witch's protests.

My mom then dragged Amelia into the living room, where everyone was waiting to find out who was visiting at this hour, with me having already felt Amelia's magic.

And as soon as we saw Amelia's messed-up appearance, we could only gasp in amazement.

...

...

...

...

"Can you please tell me why the Floo didn't work in your fireplace?" Amelia asked, her face devoid of any emotion after a few seconds of silence, and I didn't know why, but she was looking specifically at me.

"Well, it turns out we have a blocking ward that prevents some forms of magical transport" I replied looking away.

"You could have warned me about this sooner," she said dryly, and I just shrugged with an apologetic smile, but inside I was holding back from laughing.

Amelia was about to say something else, but she heard a muffled snort, and looking to my side she saw Tonks with her hand over her mouth trying not to laugh, not having the same self-control as I did.

And that's when Amelia realized that she was still dirty with soot, and quickly picking up her wand she used the cleaning spell on herself, leaving her clothes, her face and her hair clean and spotless again.

Adjusting her robes one last time, Amelia turned to Tonks, who was still trying to stifle her laughter.

But as soon as Tonks noticed her boss's dangerous gaze on her, she immediately stopped laughing.

"You're not going to talk about what happened here to anyone" Amelia said looking at Tonks, and then she swept her gaze over everyone in the living room, "And that goes for all of you too, do you understand?"

"Yes boss" Tonks was quick to nod, not wanting to suffer her boss' wrath.

"Understood" "I don't even know what you're talking about" "I promise" Nick, Sirius and I said, but Amelia couldn't see that the three of us had our fingers crossed behind our backs.

"Good" she nodded.

"So how was your talk with Fudge?" I asked, changing the subject to Amelia's relief.

"Well, Fudge was in denial at first after seeing Pettigrew alive, and even after accepting it he was still convinced that it was all a mistake and that the things spoken in the Daily Prophet were lies, but after some 'clarification' and some arguments, he realized he had no other choice but to accept that there might be at least a little truth to the article" Amelia started to say.

"AND?" Andy asked, wanting to quickly get to the main point of this conversation.

"And I have to say, Ethan's plan worked perfectly…" Amelia replied, looking at me with a little respect, and I nodded at her.

She then turned to everyone in the living room, a slight smile appearing on her face, "And with all the events and a little more arguments, Fudge agreed to try Pettigrew in front of the court, and with that we also indirectly succeeded in getting a new, or rather a real trial for Sirius"

And after Amelia said this everyone who was anxiously waiting for the news immediately celebrating in happiness, with Tonks standing up to hug her boss, who was surprised at first before accepting the hug.

My parents and Ted were celebrating too, and Andy was standing next to her cousin with her hand on his shoulder as she cried a little, with Sirius staring straight ahead, too shocked to react.

And while everyone was congratulating Sirius and celebrating, I sighed in relief, until I felt a hand on my shoulder, and looking to the side I saw that it was Nick, who was looking at me with a slight smile.

Smiling at Nick as well, I turned my gaze to everyone, seeing Sirius recover from his shock and hug his cousin as he tried and failed not to cry.

'Yes, this is just the beginning of the changes' I thought, smiling.

After everyone's emotions calmed down, we sat back in our seats, but you could still feel the happy and relieved mood that was in the room.

"I'm glad to see you all so happy with this news, but don't forget that Sirius still hasn't been cleared" Amelia reminded us.

And that phrase reminded us that there was still a long way to go before Sirius could walk freely as an innocent man again.

Noticing how the cheerful mood had dimmed a bit because of what she'd said, Amelia decided to change the subject.

"But leaving this aside..." she started to say, turning to Nick and Penny, "I'm very curious to know how you managed to get Umbridge away from Fudge" Amelia said, and the two French immortals looked at each other with smiles mischievous.

"Well, let's just say a little gift we sent her sort of 'accidentally' sent her to St Mungo's" Nick said, not even trying to hide his sadistic smile.

"Strange, because coincidentally the same thing happened to Mr. Malfoy today... But I'm sure the two of you had nothing to do with it, right?" Amelia asked with a suspicious look, but the little twitch of her lips showed that she was finding the whole situation amusing.

"I have no idea what you're talking about" Penny replied innocently, but the twinkle in her eye said otherwise.

"I see…" Amelia said.

'I almost feel sorry for Umbridge and Malfoy... Nah, who am I kidding? I'm loving it' Amelia thought, not having a great deal of sympathy for Fudge's two staunch supporters.

End.
