Cassidy went home feeling bereft. Her mom was responding well to her treatment but look at the suffering her research was causing. She wanted to say the ends justified the means but watching her mom breathe easier just made the shame intensify.
Tristan felt her sadness and growled menacingly. Whoever was fucking with his mate was dead. Tristan smelled him before he walked in. The rage built inside him as both man and wolf wanted to tear him limb from limb.
The need to comfort his mate won over his desire for blood.

Tristan waited patiently knowing Ferguson would make a mistake. Surely enough, he put his hand on Tristan's cage. He swiped his claws across Ferguson's fingers, making him howl in pain.

The wolf only turned his back and pretended to sleep.
Cassidy, please stop crying. You don't need my forgiveness baby, I don't blame you for any of this, Ferguson did this to me and he's gonna pay very soon.
Cassidy felt his determination and his rage seething just beneath the surface. She knew he was up to something and she also knew she had to help him. She was on the phone to her sister in the next instant, her mind made up.
" Catherine, listen please, I need you to come get mom."
" What..."
" I developed a serum and it's working but now they're using it to experience on people and I can't allow that."
Catherine smiled knowing her big sister as she did, arguing with her was futile.
" They dont have you on my file so you can come get her, stay at my place. My address on file is Mom's place so you can come stay here in Colorado in peace.I need you leave now, baby sister."
Catherine nodded, hadn't she quit her job in search of such an adventure and wasn't this the beat away to earn their mom's forgiveness.
