[Job interview 10 AM tomorrow]
"Interview tomorrow. 10 am." I repeated.
I was glancing at my phone, making sure I had my reminders set up for the next day. As I was putting my phone away, there were the sound of footsteps behind me.
Turning around, I saw no one.
The nearby lamppost shone a dim light across the empty street.
"Hello?" I called out.
There was no answer.
I stood there for a moment, thinking. I turned back and decided to keep walking home, albeit at a faster pace. I wasn't planning on getting mugged tonight.
A few minutes later, I realized something odd. Strangely enough, I haven't seen a single person or car since I left the library. It was a bit late, but even so, it was still unusual to not encounter a single individual.
"Whatever." Just a coincidence.
I still couldn't shake this feeling though, that I was being watched.
Then a tingle ran down my spine. I stopped in my tracks.
I felt it.
There was this presence behind me. I held up my hands. They were shaking.
I had a urge to look behind me, but I couldn't.
Because all of a sudden, every single instinct screamed at me.
Run.
I broke into a sprint, cold sweat dripping down my body.
There were footsteps behind me again, but they were getting louder, slowly catching up. My breath was getting heavy, and my legs started to slow down. It felt like I was being pulled back.
As I pushed myself harder and harder, the ground beneath me began to tremble. There was a rumble, and the earth opened up.
I opened my mouth to scream, and then the darkness engulfed me.
