Chapter 1 - Spooky, Scary Skeletons

The boy heard a slight scuffle behind the door. He reached up, slowly opened the door and peeked through. Behind the door was a bloody skeleton the size of a grown man.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!" I scream as a hand closes around my shoulder. I take my VR headset off, turn around and say, "Avery you JERK!" as I punched my twin brother for scaring me while I was watching a horror movie. I like to watch scary movies even though I get scared easily. It's like an addiction - and I don't even like it. I'm weird like that. But never mind that, I have a brother to get rid of.

"Oh my gosh I got a picture this time! Just wait till I show Anna," Avery says as I move from punching his shoulder to his gut. Anna is our older sister who, at 20 years, has two kids and owns a restaurant with her husband. They like to put embarrassing pictures of us around the place.

One of these days I'm gonna contact the president requesting - no, DEMANDING that people can bury their siblings alive. I wouldn't even mind paying to do it. Hey, I bet I can get around half a billion people to sign a petition agreeing with me.

Last week was mine and Avery's 17th birthday so we were supposed to be more mature or something(like that's ever going to happen). We visited our grandparents AT 9 IN THE MORNING to say hi and receive our presents. That's where he got his camera from. He also got a VR but hasn't touched it yet and honestly, I doubt he ever will. Grandma gave me a stack of new movies and a VR set, and of course, I just HAD to watch one of the horror movies. I swear, the movie wasn't actually that scary! It was just that darned VR headset that made everything SEEM real... and a lot more scary-looking.

Anyway, Mother just so happened to be walking into the room as I beat Avery up(I think he has a bloody nose). Of course, I got a long lecture on how I shouldn't use violence. All while Avery was smirking at me. FINALLY, Mother finishes her lecture and I am free. When my mother turns around, I elbow Avery in the stomach before walking to my room. He lets out an over-exaggerated groan to catch Mother's attention. Before she even had the chance to turn back around I say, "He punched himself," hurry to my room, and close the door. Not too loud of course cause that would make me suspicious(assuming she believes me).

I jump on my bed and stare at my headset for a while. Grandma had given me a video game with it, and not just any game. This one was extremely popular - and expensive. Lucky for me, Grandma and Grandpa are more on the wealthy side. The game is called, Great Elements(cringe right?). A lot of people at school played this game saying stuff like, "It was worth the money!" Or "I ranked up on the board! I'm now ranked XXXX!!!" The hottest topic was asking and telling each others' element. There are four main elements. Fire, water, wind, and earth. There are also quite a few secondary elements, but apparently they're super hard to find.

"Maybe I should try this game out." I whisper to nobody in particular. "It does sound pretty interesting…"

'Screw it, let's try it.' I think to myself as I turn the game on. I lay down on my bed in a comfortable position. 'Let's do this...'

Note to self - Never use the VR to watch a movie in the living room.
