It was still dark outside when she finally opened her eyes. She knew it was dark because she could see the bright full moon shining through the large glass panes that faced her bed.
The light from the moon fell in through the windows, making large pale slices of moonbeams on the dark wood floor. It illuminated the room, casting pale shadows against the much deeper shadows within the recesses of the room.
She was alone within the room that looked so unfamiliar she didn't know where she was.
She blinked a few times to clear her vision. The unfamiliar room remained. It could be a dream, but when did dreams hurt so much?
She tried to rise from the bed but a sharp pain hit her chest and she gasped, falling back down onto the soft pillows.
The pain began to ebb. She laid there, breathing in shallow breaths trying not to move.
