For the second time in a while, we enter into the arena for swimming at TYM. From what I heard, we were going to RF right after this for the 400 meter freestyle, 100 meter breaststroke and 200 meter breaststroke.
Not that I needed to arrive at the other events, but my school was forcing me. It must be pretty sad for the actual competitors, but it is what it is.
For today, there was more people than I thought. It seems as though I caught some people's attentions.
Why did I know it was me? Well, they were looking at me most of the time while biting a pencil, tapping their fingers and writing something down.
Yup, they were sponsors. I'd prefer girls, but sponsors would do. There were girls, but something else immediately caught my eye.
It was something, or rather someone, much much better than cute girls with posters of your face. I stare intently at the person, making sure it's them.
To make double sure, I run back over to Seung-ri to ask him. Due to him being a fairly respected man in the local bodybuilding scene, he should know some athletic magazine people.
While he was chatting to the coach of Owen Yang about the trivial matters of life and wives, I tapped his shoulder to interrupt them.
Owen's coach peers over Seung-ri's shoulder and sees a slightly shorter boy than Seung-ri himself. He knows who this boy is and how much he is affect Owen.
This boy is the reason that Owen wanted to compete here in the first place. He was supposed to be in the district competitions, but he heard about Min-chul, his self-proclaimed rival, moving up to nationals.
He immediately withdrew from the district tournament and signed up for the nationals with his school last minute. This Min-chul is the drive for over half of the swimmers his age.
In fact, he is the milestone for all of the coaches. In their mind, they can't help but compare their own trainees and students to Min-chul. It isn't fair comparing a cat to a cheetah, but they can't help it.
Unknown to Min-chul, he was already a legend in this specific circle, and many higher ups are taking note.
Without me knowing, Owen's coach was analyzing me as I was waiting for Seung-ri to answer.
"Oh? Oh, it's Min-chul. Is there something?"
"Yeah...is that man and that lady over there the same man and lady I'm thinking of?"
"That man and that lad- oh damn! Uhhh, sorry for the bad word, but yeah. I didn't see them there. I think that the man and lady you're talking about..."
As I hear the assurance from Seung-ri, I nod my head while making a humming sound. Apparently, that man and that lady are the JW Sports people.
JW Sports is the number one magazine to go to when you want to look for talented middle school or highschool athletes.
From what Seung-ri told me a couple days ago about their known representatives and scouts, those two people are two of the many scouts.
Both of them make awkward eye contact with me and they both look down and take some notes. They lightly smile again at me and the man moves his head up once.
It's as if he was telling me to start my warm-up already. I smirk and start my arm reaches, toe touches and all of that.
After a couple of minutes of my warm-up, I feel ready for the upcoming match already. I learned from my mistakes in the 100 meter freestyle already.
I was too pressured by the fact that there was quite a lot of coins on the line. When I get pressured, I under preform.
Well, you could argue that I did well that day, but at what cost? My legs were sore and I needed special treatment from RF medical to get me to tiptop shape.
I wasn't injured mind you, they just made me not sore anymore.
It took a while for my body to stop being sore, but it definitely helped me. Without it, I'd definitely hurt my body some more.
However, I wasn't as tiptop as they wanted me to be. I just did the medical thing recently. In fact, I did it just yesterday. So, the effects weren't as visible yet.
It wasn't a problem as long as I swim fairly conservatively. The pressure on me isn't as much as before.
If I lost, it would definitely suck and I'd hate it. However, I have the fallback to deal with it. My winnings from the 100 meter freestyle can pay for it and I already advanced my potential by winning the 100 meter.
With those two problems out of the way, why do I have to win. I mean, I do want to win and improve better, but if still fine if I don't.
Options are very amazing to deal with. I won't have to lose all my hair before thirty now. Woohoo!
However, my mind was thinking a million kilometers a minute. By the time I was done with my lamenting and future planning, the warm up was done.
I look over at the JW sports people once more I as line up at the lane 10. With them, they are the most important part of this quest by far.
I can go without the coins and the other things, but I NEED JW to sponsor me. If not sponsor, feature me on their front page or one of the front pages.
With one time on the front, I'd attract the attention of more sponsors and maybe even better swimming camps. In Korea however, the swimming camp isn't a problem.
I got o RF for crying out loud. RF, the sports school. The sports school who loves all sports, even the ones that aren't even sports such as esports and chess.
They aren't active sports, but they still cultivate the talents. If they can afford to cultivate esports gamers, they can surely make room for me in the swimming camp for high schoolers.
This swimming camp, called the Amphibian Training by previous attendees, is extremely hard. You don't need to be an RF student to get in, but it helps.
The best swimmers can apply and if you get in, remember to pick a God and start praying since form the stories, they are more like creepypastas.
Some say they were forced to hold their breath for 2 minutes straight, some others say that you needed to swim 5 kilometers a day.
And honestly,y I've believed it. Considering how hard RF goes when it comes to sports, it's totally plausible. Not likely, but plausible.
I want to joint not because I'm a masochist, but because I enjoy the grind...it's the same isn't it.
...damn it!
