Chapter 8 - THE RESISTANCE

"We never existed?" Harper said as we watched as the monitors went black one by one. "Sounds like something Kane would say," Kia said. I turned to look at her sharply, she narrowed her eyes at me in response. She was perched on a couple of crates glowering down at us. She looked every bit as wrathful as an avenging angel. Of course, she was no angel. None of us were.

We were all that was left of the Resistance all seven locations all crammed into one final base. Mexico City was blessed with many different small cities easy for our resistance fighters to blend in with the locals, and easy to go unnoticed by the cartels by traveling in different groups in plain clothes. Kia and Harper had always loved coming to this base. I had come here hoping that Lena and the rest of the Crimson Faction would come back but they never did.

And now Kane had released the news that we have been under an alien invasion this whole time. That everything we had been led to believe by the Resistance was a lie. The Resistance was a lie.

"So everything we've done has been in support of an alien invasion?" Carlos said. I turned back to look at him and the rest of the members that all stood dejected in the area that we had used as a common room of sorts.

Carlos looked jittery. Nervous. I glanced back at Kia taking note of her rigid stance, she looked infuriated at both the news and looked absolutely dangerous. But on a closer inspection, I noticed her fingers pushing against each other. A nervous habit. For a moment it made me think of Lena. The way she would twirl her bo sticks when she was problem-solving.

Lena and the rest of the Crimson Faction had been missing for months. They had never come back during the siege. Neither had The Scientist. Lost and unsure we had all gathered in what we had known as a safe haven. We had all continued to work as if we were in a holding period in between missions. Hoping that our usual leaders would return and tell us what to do. But they never did.

"Jules?" I turned surprised to be addressed. "Sophia?" I asked looking at the violet-haired girl. "What are you thinking?" she asked. "What I'm about to do is something crazy," I said, kicking one of the crates and standing on top of it in the middle of the room. "Kane might think the Resistance never existed. But we believed in a cause so much we left our families and obeyed one man. And that man was never Kane. We believed in the ideals of The Scientist. He believed the government was corrupt. He took the children of the leaders of the many nations of the world and made them better. We fought with them. We lived with them. Kane thinks he's won. He's never considered a future where he loses. Don't we owe it to Lena, Emily, and every life Kane has ever destroyed, to avenge them? Kane just killed the president and declared that he won. If that isn't a call for war I don't know what is!" I shouted to the room. The silence in the room was deafening.

"What war?" Kia asked glaring at me. "The war for the earth. These Aliens seem to think they've won. Let's show them how very wrong they are." I said. "Let's find our people. And let's go to war. We are the Resistance. We are everywhere and nowhere. And we have never cowered to the government. And we are not going to start now." I said.

"So how do we start?" Kia asked. I looked at Sophia. "The Scientist. We need to track him down. He will know where everyone else is." She said. "I might be able to help with that," Mikhael said. Kia jumped off the crates in surprise moving to my other side.

"Mikhael, what are you doing here?" I asked surprised to suddenly see him walking through our group, with his usual smirk on his face. "Why am I not surprised to see you standing up as leader after the rest of the resistance leaders have gone?" Mikhael said, making me scowl. "Where is everyone then?" Kia asked stepping towards Mikhael. "Where is Lena? Or Emily?" she continued.

"I've seen them. Emily was traveling with me for a while before we went our separate ways. I know all of you must be confused. " Mikhael said to the group looking around at all of us. "The Resistance was built on the belief that what we were doing was for the benefit of humanity." He said.

"And now we find out we were benefiting an alien invasion." Kia pointed out. "I just saw the broadcast," Mikhael said waving his phone at us. "But I knew about the alien invasion from our girls. Aimee, Lena, and Emily. They came to see me. It seems they had a confrontation with Kane, and he let them in on the fact that he was on a mission to destroy the Experiments. It's the only force that can stand against him." He said. "And we will stand with them," Carlos said. The other members of the Resistance murmured their agreement. "I was hoping you were going to say that."

--Kia—

I'd never been fond of the experiments. I had always thought they were unnatural. But I had always had a great fondness for Aimee. She had been so unbelievably rude and angry even after she was turned. I was one of the few who had known that her own brother had been the one to sell her out. He'd been the reason she'd been kidnapped and turned into an experiment against her will. He'd been the one to make his father a martyr. To show everyone that his father deserved to be president. He showed the world that his father was strong. And as far as we could tell, Avraham was now the President of the United States.

Even though the true leader was in fact Kane and his military force of experiments he'd made personally to follow him. Julian, Mikhael, and the Scientist who had shown up with Mikhael were going through every file of every experiment making lists. From what they've gathered there were three groups of experiments Kane had forty experiments in his military force. People like Balthazar, that were first-generation experiments. They were extremely gifted like Lena. The second and third generations had been taken to different factions of Resistance strongholds all over the world.

The second group was Lena's group. According to Mikhael, Emily, Aimee, and Lena had all joined the military force of Peru that was led by her father. From a recent transmission report, we had found out that they had teamed up with Lucy, who had some renegade aliens on her side that was against everything that Kane was trying to do on Earth. "Not entirely sure how Lucy found renegade aliens," I said. "Are you really surprised?" Jules said smirking. "It's Lucy," Jules said with a smile.

I narrowed my eyes at Jules. He'd always been overly fond of Lucy. Not that I could blame him. She was pretty great even with her ability to read minds. "The Aliens aren't one main group. On their home planet, they were divided into two species. Kane's people were known as Alphas. They were the leaders of their group. The Omegas were known as lesser beings, even though they were the ones with special abilities. It was from the Omegas that the experiments got their powers from." The Scientist said. He looked at me his eyes hard. "Kane gave me their blood, and I was grateful. I never asked how he got it. But Lena and Aimee did. Aimee I've been led to believe has been at the forefront of trying to help liberate all those Omegas still in chains.

"Wow. I wouldn't expect that from Aimee of all people." Jules said surprised. "Why not? She of all people knows what it's like to be taken and used for someone else's purpose." I said. "I'm not surprised in the least that she is fighting for freedom now," I argued.

"That's not what I meant. I thought with her being free, she'd want revenge, she must've figured out by now, that it was her brother that arranged her capture, and now apparently his own father's death. He's now in the seat of the highest power in the world."

"It wasn't common knowledge, but Balthazar had gotten Avraham's help to abduct Aimee. The fact that he's President under Kane's Leadership isn't going to sit well with her." Mikhael said. "You think she's going after Avraham?" I asked.

"Attack the White House? You really think she would do that?" Jules asked. "To avenge a wrong done to her?" Mikhael said. "Absolutely. She's nothing if not resourceful." I said. "She's going to need back up," Jules said. "I'm in," I said pointedly.

"Obviously." Cayden another resistance member said. "We should divide our people into two teams." He said. "Three teams." The Scientist said. Mikhael turned to look at him in surprise. "Why three?" He asked. "One team to help Aimee in the White House. And two teams to come from two different directions to attack Kane's army. It won't just be us though." The Scientist said. "What do you mean?" I asked.

"Elliot made contact he's with Lucy and Emily. Apparently, Lena and a Bunch of other people are off Planet."

"WHAT?!"

--CAYDEN--

As the beginnings of a plan began to form, I sneaked out of the war room with a satellite phone and dialed a number that was almost as familiar as my own. "Hallo Lil sis," I said as the phone was answered by a melodic voice. "Cayden, now why would you be calling me?" Lucy asked on the other end. "The beginnings of a plan is forming at the Resistance base. But in order to give you guys, a good team or teams is to be able to locate the other experiments are." I said. "Smart," Lucy said. "I'll give you a list of people that can back up your teams. And I'll send you updates whenever I can about the current plan we have. It keeps changing because of new information. Especially since half our team is off-planet." Lucy said in a huff. "Actually Cayden, your pretty good at information systems. Do you think you could figure out how to get Emily's database system to outer space?" Lucy asked in an afterthought. "Has she tried to send it by uploading it to the ship's mainframe? She should be able to find the specifications online. And by online I mean hacking the military database to get into Kane's files." I asked. "Actually, we have a way to talk to the people on Saytara," Lucy said.

"I see Kane chose the most destructive way, to take charge," I said as I continued to flip channels that were all black. "He's not stupid," Emily said. "He took off our broadcasting network and declared all resistance members are part of an alien invasion." She said. "But it could be argued that the idea of an alien invasion will cause needless panic," Elliot said. We were in the industrial size kitchen in the basement of the Washington mansion that had become our base of operations. "Kane knows that there are people who will always follow him. He has an army to back him." Aimee added. "Case in point, my brother." She said darkly. Westley patted her shoulder. Westley still had military contacts in Washington. A couple of them worked in the secret service. According to them Aimee's brother, Avraham was now in the oval office. "So this is the new order? We are just going to hand over the earth to Kane?" Elliot asked.

"Hell no. The war has just begun. He tried to take us all out. It's time we brought the fight to him." Lena's voice rang out. "Great," Elliot said. "Does her royal pain have a plan all the way on another Planet?"
