Chapter 1 - Prologue

Explosions rocked the castle, raining down large and small stones and mason work as the queen ran with the tightly held bundle in his arms. The queen would never let the mad king have her. Not as long as she lived. Not her. She continued to run until she came to a dead end. One of the castle walls had collapsed entirely leaving all but rubble in the middle of the corridor. The queen whimpered slightly looking down at her bundle. The baby not even three months old slept soundly amidst the wreckage that used to be her home.

"My Queen! Come this way." The queen turned startled at the harsh whisper and saw one of her Knights clad in the gold armor of the kingdom leaning from what looked like a normal wall but seemed to open into a passageway of sorts.

"Where did this place even come from?" The Queen asked as she ran behind the knight. "We created this passageway in the event of something exactly like what is happening right now, to save the Royal family. The Dark Court is extremely patient, and their anger against the light court is centuries old." The Knight said.

"But this isn't happening because of a centuries-old disagreement. This is happening because my father lied to the crowned Prince who killed his father to become King to exact revenge on me and my husband." The queen said. The knight turned to the queen his eyes sorrowful. "The King was a wise and Just ruler and he was extremely protective of you. You know this." The knight said turning back to the corridor and pushing one of the walls that opened up to a garden that served as the middle of the walls that separated the light and dark kingdoms.

"There is a portal through the fountain in the middle of the garden. You will be safe far away from here." The queen looked at the knight startled. "A portal?" she asked her eyes widening. "The only place that will keep you safe is anywhere that's not here." The knight said. The Queen looked at the garden, and then her child. Then she turned and looked back at the corridor.

"The only way my people will ever be safe is if they have a queen to protect them from the forces of darkness." She said looking at the knight with tears in her eyes. "You have been brave enough to come and find me. To save me and my daughter. So I know she will be safe if you take her away and hide her from all that may harm her. Take her through the portal and find her a family that will keep her safe from any darkness." The Queen said. The knight put a fist to his chest and bowed.

"With my life, she will be safe," he said. The Queen looked back at her bundle, at her little one with her little blonde ringlets that surrounded her little chubby cheeks. She opened her violet eyes once looking at her mother smiling slightly before snuggling back in her blankets.

"Darling daughter, seeing you grow up would have been the greatest joy I would ever have, but now I will have to hope that one day you might come back home and I will meet you again. Until that day comes may everything that makes you who you are be hidden, may you be safe and loved, wherever you end up." The queen said giving her daughter a kiss on the cheek and passing along the bundle to the knight. The knight held the bundle tightly in his arms bowing once more before walking towards the portal.

"Wait. I don't even know your name!" The queen said. The knight turned slightly, with the bundle looking at the queen. "I am your Knight, as I was your father's and his father's before his. Never has any of them asked me for a name, but if it pleases you, my queen. The name Ifrinn is the one that I have always gone by and the name I will take once more in the land I go to now." The knight said before he left through the portal.

The queen closed her eyes two drops of tears falling from her eyes. She put her arms to her chest and breathed deeply once before she levitated off the ground and moved higher and higher two gossamer wings protruding from her back. When she opened her eyes all that spewed forth was light. She spread her arms and the light flew out from her body and everything that was darkness vanished in the light.

Her castle rebuilt itself and a wave of light cascading through it pushing all that didn't belong out. Including the Dark King Bastien who roared with anger. The castle built great big walls that went higher than even the wall that separated the dark and light courts. The King stared at the walls with fury, and he swore at that moment that the light queen would pay. Even if that meant her life.
