When Arne gets to the animal hospital, the only thing in his mind is to make sure the rabbit is okay, and then leave it back to where it belonged. He wasn't feeling good about lying to mom about the rabbit, he never did, but there was something in those animals that always got to him, that made him automatically walk toward them and make sure if they were okay, he couldn't help it.
He saw a pet dog on the way, looked at it in the eye and reached to the dog's mind in a second, all the excitement the dog was feeling of having an evening walk, of feeling love for its owner was clearly audible in Arne's mind, and then Arne stopped, opened the cardboard box and looked at those golden yellow brown eyes again, trying, nothing.
He sighs and walks through the disinfected hallway, reaching to the attendant's desk, he says to the blue haired guy at the desk, "Hello, is there any doctor available in the hospital that could check my rabbit's leg."
The rabbit suddenly growled from inside the cardboard box, making the attendant's eyes wide, and look at the cardboard box with alarm, "Are you sure is that a rabbit?" he asked looking at warily at Arne as if he was holding a perilous tiger in a box.
"Yeah see." Arne kept the cardboard box on the counter, and the attendant suddenly stood up, hiding behind the leather chair for mortal stability.
"Hey dude, stop." The guy said, moving his hand through his blue hair looking right and left as if he was going to scream any moment.
Arne exhales and dips his hand inside the box, the rabbit did bite, the proof of it on Arne's chest but it was not poisonous, he hoped, his hands befall upon layer of silky fur and another hiss emanates from the creature in the palm of his hand, Arne has never seen a rabbit like that, it was a snake in a rabbit's body.
And just as Arne's hands comes out the box with the golden flaming red creature in his hands, the blue haired guy gasps, his eyes wide, not in fear, Arne notices, but pure infatuation and wonder.
"She is so beautiful." The attendant says stepping around the chair, certainly sure that it was not a tiger.
"She is not she, it's he." Arne says and blushes, he hadn't meant to say that, or see that.
The rabbit stills in his arms, as if he understood every word that Arne said, Arne had an inkling it did.
"His eyes, they are so beautiful," the blue haired guy says, pushing Arne out of his thoughts, the guys hand reaches near the rabbit as if he wanted to scratch its fur, and in not less than a second, Arne hears the identical growl and teeth-grinding that makes the guy squeak and remove his hands far away from the rabbit.
"I...I will make the appointment." The guy says eyes wide, this time in fear.
"Thank you." Arne says to the guy, and turns the rabbit's face towards his. "You are quite a beast aren't you?"
It's yellow gold brown eyes glare at Arne and Arne walks to the doctor's office with the rabbit still glaring at Arne as if he wanted to slash him in half.
******
The doctor like the blue haired guy was quite enthused to hold the rabbit, and unlike the blue haired guy, the rabbit let the doctor see its leg like it didn't have touching issues at all, clever and snarky, Arne thought.
The doctor was fussing all over the rabbit as if the yellow eyed beast was a fairly tailed star, and unlike its deathly glare minutes before, it looked quite content when the doctor used some spray over its leg.
"You have done quite a good job," the kind eyed doctor tells him.
"Thank you," Arne smiles, "I just did what I best could."
"You did really well, considering his legs could have broken if you didn't use the splinter" The doctor motions to the rolled up rabbit on the small leather bed, the pink splinter looked quite contrastive and colourful with its fur, his yellow eyes shining like a sun, but the brown between them, were still pointed like an arrow towards Arne "he must be feeling very thankful towards you."
Quite the opposite, Arne thought looking toward the devil eyed scathing beast. He certainly couldn't understand why he couldn't reach its head; it was one of the most frustrating things Arne has ever felt.
"Is it yours?" The doctor asks suddenly.
"No, no" Arne fumbles, scratching his neck.
The doctor's eyes sparkles as if Arne had just told him that the doctor was getting a free subscription on the oldest wine collection in the world, "So you rescued it yes?"
"Yes." Arne says, not understanding where this was going.
"Would you keep it?" The doctor asks.
"Um....Well..." Arne looks at the rabbit that had bitten him, glared at him, was still glaring at him at him as if he was seeing his past life nemesis and,
"If not, I would love to." The doctor beams.
"NO." Arne interjects immediately, "I am going to-"
The rabbit's neck snaps towards his, its speculating eyes narrowing and equally venomous at Arne, for god's sake why was he going to say yes, the rabbit clearly hated him, his looks said it all, and the way Arne couldn't understand him frustrated Arne to another kind of edge, and above of all, his mother would kill him.
Arne turns to the doctor he certainly looked like someone had done a piss party on him and he was not happy. "Could you look at him for a moment, I have to make a phone call."
"Yeah sure," The doctor says in a sad voice, as if someone was departing him from his new born child, "I will look at him for you."
Arne nods and without looking at the rabbit he turns and walks outside the office, he walks from the gallery to the left hallway where he had earlier seen some people sitting at the IKEA metal chairs with their pets, there were two dogs, one cat, another was a rat, which was frighteningly looking towards the orange cat from its cage with small wide black beady eyes, the lady owner gripping the cage tightly in her lap protectively, and then there was another reptile in another cage, slicing its tongue out of its mouth.
Arne could look inside all of their minds, he could hear their thoughts like his own whispers, he could block the ones he wanted to, and hear the ones he wanted to again, the images inside their head a picture slide for Arne. The brown dog was eagerly waiting for dinner and the company of a small pink dressed girl whose time was to get back home right now, the white dog was having a boner, the orange cat wanted to snap the neck of the rat and see it struggling between its paw, and the rat was seriously frightened of the big fat cat, his veins trembling, he was thankful for its owner for holding his cage tightly, but he wanted to be home as soon as possible, Jamie would have kicked the cat if he would have been here, the rat thought, picturing a lanky bespectacled boy, and the reptile, the reptile was enjoying the show.
One thing was common between all of them, Arne realised with wide eyes goosebumps racing across his skin, they all couldn't smell or recognize the rabbit, and they all were very scared of the it, much more than the rat was of cat, or the cat was of the dogs, one image Arne couldn't shake out of his own mind was, the glare that the rabbit sent their way, and the way they all removed their eyes and bent their heads.
Arne ran to the doctor's office.
