The man's build was so huge that I don't know if he is a man or a bear. And grabbing a 2 meter great sword with 1 hand convinced me further that he is not your ordinary guard.
"Kid get out of here!" Ben shouted and proceeded to jump into the burly man's front, confronting him.
"Let's see what you've got" the burly man said while pointing his sword at Ben.
Ben himself uses a halberd as his weapon. And they traded blows with Ben swinging his halberd to chop the man down, while the latter slashed and thrust his large sword trying to find a way to the gap in Ben's defense.
"Kid, get out first! Me and Mark will help Ben finish this quickly." (Zayn)
"Hurry up guys, the soundproof barrier won't be useful if people called for reinforcements themself." (Edgar)
"Everybody, let's finish this quickly, Edgar help me with the guards from inside the house. Kid you go outside to look for when the city guards came and warn us if they're approaching." (Husk)
Edgar helped me to go out of the gate while he and Husk are dealing with the guards from the house and Ben, Zayn, and Mark are dealing with the burly man.
I looked out for any people coming in or out of the vicinity and watched the fight unfold.
Husk and Edgar struggled a little bit because of the sheer volume of the guards, but the 3 on 1 fight against the burly man is looking even worse.
"These people must be expecting us, It doesn't make sense that a house have this many people guarding it." (Edgar)
"Edgar, when I give the signal, do it okay?" (Husk)
"But isn't that for.." (Edgar)
"This is an emergency Edgar, I don't think we can survive fighting the whole town and that guy with a large sword sure is a problem, just do it" (Husk)
"Okay."
Zayn dodged and parried the man's attack with difficulty, It's annoying that even though outnumbered, the burly man is not cornered but instead evenly matched against the three of them.
"COME ON! IS THIS ALL YOU'VE GOT?" the burly man said while provoking them with a smile on his face and sword hanging from his shoulder.
Husk gave Zayn a secret signal with his body gestures that tell Zayn about his plan with Edgar.
Zayn understood the message and convey the message to his teammates with the secret code they agreed before.
"Just you wait big guy, we WILL NEVER LET GO" (Zayn)
Hearing what Zayn spoke, Ben and Mark realized what plan they are talking about.
"Let's go!" (Zayn)
Ben activated his Frenzy skill from the barbarian job, where his power and speed will double for a certain amount of time but can only be used a few times a day according to your body's strength.
Ben dashed to confront the burly guy head-on with his halberd swinging down from above.
"Alright now this is what I'm talking about! Come here!!" the burly man said.
The burly man tried to defend the downward slash with his sword, but Ben's power is unexpectedly so strong that the man almost lost his balance and fell.
But before he could regain his balance, Zayn and Mark are coming from both left and right and aimed their dagger at his head and heart at the same time.
But before the dagger pierced their target, the burly man uses his sword as a crutch to maneuver his unbalanced body to dodge all the strikes aimed at his body.
"Well, you guys did quite good but..."
"NOW EDGAR!" (Husk)
Edgar released the spell he's preparing for some time. It is a fire spell that made a huge ball of fire. The fire is hot but it is not hot enough to harm anything without touching it. But what Husk was looking for is not to harm the opponent with the gigantic fireball, but the bright light it emits.
The light is so dazzling that the people around are blinded by the light for a second, and the burly guy is not an exception. Even though the burly guy is strong and only affected by the light for a split second.
That split second is what husk needed. He pulls out a dagger from his pouch, then he pours some mana into the dagger, making the dagger emit a dark aura around the black blade and swiftly throwing it in the burly man's direction.
The blinded burly man can't see the black dagger coming in and he got hit by the blade.
"Hah, all this stunt and only for a goddamn dagger. This thing even with poison can't do much to my knight bod.."
Suddenly he felt his strength leaving all his body, his senses are numb and his body is shaking.
"WHAT IS THIS? THIS... IS THIS DEATH ELEMENT? YOU THIEVES DARE TO USE DEMON POWERS? GOD WILL NEVER FORGIVE THIS SINS!"
"JUST YOU WAIT FOR HIS JUDGEMENT AND I CONDEMN YOU TO H...."
Even with his strong knight's body, the burly man died in a matter of seconds caused by the death mana-infused dagger.
"Let's go! Out of this city now!" (Husk)
"Come on kid let's go!" (Zayn)
"But the stolen goods from before..."
"Forget about it, it's easy to find money but you only have one life, let's go!" (Zayn)
We ran as fast as we could outside the city. Fortunately, the soundproof barrier worked and prevented the whole city to know what's going on until we're safely out of the city and go into the woods. And found ourselves a place to sit and rest after the long night.
"Damn that's a close one" (Zayn)
"What's with that man though, he's so goddamn strong." (Ben)
"He probably already got his second job as a knight, and that's probably why he is so much stronger than us" (Edgar)
"Those privileged bastards got help from their families to hunt magic beast and got a teacher to teach them the job are cheaters" (Ben)
"Yes they can level much faster and got their next job quicker as well." (Zayn)
"But what can we do? We're all in this situation together because of this unfairness right?" (Mark)
"This world is unfair and cruel and there's nothing wrong with the way we chose to stay alive and survive." (Zayn)
"What is wrong Robin, you're being too quiet." (Zayn)
I heard Zayn's question, but I felt too ashamed to look at him and answers.
"I...I'm sorry..."
"This is all because of me...."
"If I hadn't messed up we won't be having this problem.."
"I'm really sorry.."
I keep my head looking down, the sense of guilt, shame, and uselessness flooding over me.
"It's okay Robin, it's not like we know that they are already prepared for us." (Mark)
"And it is probably my fault for not doing the reconnaissance properly." (Zayn)
"And I also failed to notice a magic alarm system on the door, so it's not entirely your fault" (Edgar)
"See Robin, we all care for you and will not abandon you just because of a small mistake. Remember that we are your family and we will protect and help each other, so just focus on improving yourself and don't stress out the useless stuff." (Husk)
"Guys...."
I felt a strange feeling in my chest, Maybe a sense of home and family, and the feeling of belonging somewhere caused this. I don't know what this feeling is telling me. But I know that it felt nice. And without me noticing, tears start to slowly pour out of my eyes.
After getting myself back together and stopped my eyes from 'sweating' anymore, I tried to change the mood by asking about the dagger from earlier.
"No, I can't use death attribute mana." (Husk)
"It is a magic item" Edgar explained
"Husk found it on a house raid before and found out its use. He decided to keep onto it in case of emergency just like before." (Edgar)
"Yes, It is a strong weapon but also a dangerous one, and now that we lost it, we can't use it anymore and probably the kingdom will confiscate such dangerous weapon." (Husk)
"Things with death attributes are highly monitored by the kingdom regarding its use. And people who are capable of using death attribute mana are under heavy surveillance and controlled by the kingdom." (Husk)
"And now with that thing not in our possession anymore, it is actually one less problem we have to deal with." (Husk)
"Oh and by the way, Husk where are we going after this? Immediately leaving the kingdom?" (Mark)
"We could, but our inventories are exactly zero now that we left all of our goods in the basecamp in that town."(Zayn)
"There's a little village at the border of Forest of Beast right? Why don't we go there? It's a small village in the edge of the kingdom bordering no man's land, so there should be no ambushes or any strong enemies right?" (Robin)
"Yes I think that Robin is right, we can grab some stuff so we'll have some things to sell for money in the next kingdom, giving us some time to settle and rest before doing our next raid" (Zayn)
"Yes, let's just make this little trip, grab some stuff then leave and go straight to the neighboring kingdom." (Mark)
"Alright if everybody agreed then let's go and finish our final raid in this kingdom" (Husk)
Then The Hyenas settled on their last destination in this kingdom and started their journey to the border town on the edge of The Kingdom of Brandia.
