"Yeah... I'm not really looking for a relationship or children in this lifetime to be honest. I'm good by my lonesome." She confessed and he smiled. She hadn't even told her parents about that and yet she told a complete stranger. Things really are easier with no strings attached.
"When I was your age, I felt the same way." He added. Perhaps he was deceptively older than he looked. Noticing her confusion, he carried on.
"Ah yes, many people have speculated on my age. I'm actually thirty two despite my looks." He laughed a little to himself, and she gasped. He was fourteen years older than her.
"What's your secret?! You're practically wrinkle free!"
"Hey now! I'm not that old!" He frowned yet with a bit of a smirk.
He looked down at the clip board again.
"Ah so you are twenty one yes? So this is your first cervical examination?" He glanced down at her birthdate.
"Sadly."
To this he laughed.
Sitting on the bench, he gently guided her legs into the stirrups. His large hand went under her thigh leaving an imprint on her flesh as his hand glided all the wall back to her foot placing it. Once both her legs were up and spread only the small cloth of the hospital gown hung down between her thighs hiding her most private of parts. Doctor Oliver had a tray with many different tools on it. She did recognize a few, however. There was a small thin almost pencil like flash light, speculum of all sizes and shapes, and a little brush for taking cervical cell samples.
Thankfully he chose the smallest speculum on the tray that was no bigger or longer than a tampon or the size of a pinky finger. Slowly lifting up the hospital gown Mavis' last shred of dignity flew away in the wind. Everything seemed to go silent for at least five minutes and somehow she had to bravery to look the doctor right in the eye. Her face flushed red and he just smiled back at her all the same. "Relax dear." He reassured as she soon felt cold metal insert itself. Thankfully it went in just fine although uncomfortable not exactly painful like she had originally thought.
Mavis gazed up at the ceil as he took his mini flashlight and looked around making sure everything was where it was supposed to be and used the elongated brush to take cell samples. At first it kind of tickled and she had to try her hardest not to sneeze in fear the metal in her crotch would come flying out.
Finally finishing he spoke. "Alright everything looks good and perfectly healthy my dear."
"Well that's good..." Mavis murmured. It was the best thing she could come up with at the moment. What was she supposed to say to the man who saw all her bits?
"So when do you want to schedule your next appointment? I recommend you come more often then you have over the last few years. Checkups as annoying as they are also important."
She looked away and gazed her toes. "Uh... Actually this is gonna be my first and my last..." Mavis awkwardly chuckled with a smile. Looking up into his eyes, she was surprised to see those dark pits look more dangerous than ever. A slight slip in his charmingly friendly demeanor revealing a little of the destructive storm swirling in his eyes. She immediately froze the person who she had talked to the entire time was not the same person who looked back at her. However, she had only seen a glimpse and once it was gone she started to second guess herself. Oliver was so very kind to her during this entire appointment so there was no reason to get scared now.
Unknowingly to her the man in front of her was rather black bellied.
"What do you mean dearie?" He smiled rather tight lipped his overly friendly grin reaching his eyes almost unnaturally. His smile was forced, stretched a little too wide to be entirely natural with his dark black locks hanging above his cold eyes. She twiddled her thumbs mulling over how to best explain her predicament.
"Oh-Umm... This place is a little too... First class for me not to mention expensive. I'd rather just go to a small clinic to get regular flu shots..."
At this he looked a bit surprised. "Oh... Money isn't a problem at all darling. Your insurance covers all of this appointment and any others that will follow." He added convincingly. She would be surprised if her shitty insurance would cover even half... But all? That was insane! There was no way. To her befuddlement he spoke.
"Chairman Wyllt the owner of Saint Bell Hospital recently bought Galactic inc; your insurance to help working class citizens to get better medical care."
"R-Really?" She asked surprised and a little unsure.
"So when should we schedule that next appointment?" He asked a blindly handsome smile on his face making her look away. It was like staring into the sun.
"Umm... Next flu season... I guess."
At this he looked a bit aggravated. "Dear... That's- Five months away."
"Uh- yeah? That's what the regular time is in between doctor visits?"
He sighed.
"Well... I minus well cut to the chase." He moved his fingers through his dark hair nervously as she sat confused.
"Would... Would- You like to get dinner sometime?" He held her hands gently looking directly into her shocked eyes.
"H-Huh?!" She turned confused once again. Why would this handsome man want to hang out with her? She was just a simple patient.
"Oh... I-I don't know about that... I'm not sure you're supposed to hang out with your patients." She murmured unsure as he looked a bit disappointed. However at the same time surprised at her innocence of the situation. He then gently brushed her loose bangs out of her face.
He sighed deeply in thought. "Darling what do you think it means when a man asks a woman to dinner?"
"Uh- dinner... and friends?" She answered unclear. What else was it supposed to mean? To this he smiled gently at her his dark eyes gleaming. Oliver softly grabbed her chin and lifted her head, so her gaze would meet his. His thumb moved to her plump soft pink lower lip and brushed across it as she looked up at his curiously.
"You're too innocent for your own good dearie." He muttered as she struggled to hear what he said when there was a sudden knock on the door.
Turning their heads they saw a nurse walk in. She lightly bowed to the doctor a light blush on her face. "Mr. W-"
Halfway into her sentence she suddenly stopped talking confusing Mavis. She looked at the nurse who suddenly stilled. Her skin was pale and a light sweat glistened in the light on her forehead. She seemed frightened by something.
"I-I'll c-come back later..." she stuttered as she quickly left the door closing. Gazing over at Oliver, she soon found him staring back at her with the same bright smile as always making all her thoughts disappear. It was hypnotizing.
Once he had concluded the long appointment, she quickly dressed and headed to the front desk to sign out to which Doctor Oliver followed closely behind her dutifully watching her steps. "Alright Miss Finely you are good to go." The lady at the front desk spoke looking behind her at Doctor Oliver a little surprised.
Turning to the front entrance to leave she was stopped when Oliver grabbed her hand to stop her and she turned around. "Yes?"
"May I walk you to your car dearie?" He spoke almost desperately a tad ruffled up as if it was a last resort still smiling brightly as ever even though it was faltering a bit. At this the other workers in the building watches gawking a bit in surprise and murmuring amongst themselves.
"If you want to so badly then sure," she laughed at his nervousness as she walked out into the parking lot. Right before she got in her car Doctor Ollivander turned her around much to her surprise as he was very close to her.
"Can I call you?" He asked her as he smiled down at her rather fondly.
"Sure thing Doctor," she smiled up at him her big demure doe eyes shining in her own free and content way. Her unknowing face looking up at his much darker one.
"No-No I meant not professionally." Oliver spoke his dark eyes starting to wither a bit. He had never tried so hard for a mere glance in his entire life.
"I mean can we..."
"Can I have dinner with you?" He asked once more as she seemed to be stuck in her own thoughts. He had asked her again this time more desperately than the last. His midnight eyes sparkling almost innocently hope lingering in their darkest depths. Perhaps he was just lonely? Maybe she should just give in and humor the poor man.
"O-Okay... If it's what you really want." She spoke softly. She really didn't understand why he wanted to with her of all people. After her response his black midnight sky eyes seemed show her own reflection staring back at her. His broad shoulders and tall figure towering over her and trapping her between him and her car.
Stepping in her vehicle, she soon turned the key and started the engine. He stood outside and gently waved to her with a small smile mouthing 'I'll text you' as she drove off into the distance.
As she drove further and further all the way to her home the sun was slowly setting on the horizon as the night sky became darker and darker. Eventually opening her old creaky apartment door, she shut it and face planted on her bed and soft blankets in exhaustion. Thankfully she had already changed into her soft over sized pajamas entirely enveloping her small form. Closing her soft eyes for a brief second, only to be awoken by a buzz on her device.
Looking at her bright phone glowing in the dark blinding her eyes she sees that a text message was sent from an unknown number. Reading it her eyes widen a little.
'Hello dear, it's Oliver it seemed the address you wrote down on your contact information was incorrect so I'm hoping this is the right number. Please respond as soon as you can darling so I know where to meet for dinner.'
He really texted her? She didn't think he'd really go through with it. Deciding on replying she sent her own message.
'Yeah... Sorry about that...'
She felt a bit guilty about writing down a fake one. She had never thought about a situation like this one ever occurring.
'I'm at 2345 Clarissa View in complex eight.'
She hit send, not even a few seconds passing as she saw that it had been read.
'Be there in a few dearie.'
He added with a smiley face at the end making her laugh a bit to herself. Oliver was so old school and didn't seem to know much about emoji's. He was like her dad who always complained about how to send gifs.
Well...
He was a decade older than her.
A knock on her door suddenly caused her to set her phone down and stand up. Was it Oliver? That was rather fast. Opening the door, she was surprised. He stood there having to duck under the door frame his large shoulders barely even making it through. The ceiling was low so he had to bend over a bit and the old almost rotted floor boards screamed as he came in. He wore all black except for a rather informal button up and long black overcoat. His raven hair was a bit rain soaked but still fell to the sides of his dark eyes making his bright smile all the more lovely. "I love your apartment it's very warm and lovely. Very... You." He glanced around complementing her abode rather generously compared to what it actually was.
"Haha-you're too kind. When I first moved in here this place was a wreck." She rose on her tip toes to pat his shoulder as he beamed at her refreshing blatant honesty.
Ollivander looked down at her adorable form wrapped in a shaw and blankets. Her shirt barely hanging onto her small shoulders her hair remaining messily tied up and in his hands he held a fresh bouquet of beautiful bright orange sunflowers with hints of red that seemed to match her fiery hair.
She blushed as he gently handed her the flower brushing her bangs out of her face with his long gloves fingers. "Looks like the weather took a turn for the worst." He spoke looking back to the open door as he closed it not wanting any rain to get in. On her tv the news played, and they warned of the roads icing over.
"Sorry love it doesn't look like I can take you anywhere." He spoke putting his large hand on her shoulder with a smile.
"Well... That's okay. I didn't really want go anywhere with the weather being horrible. I'm more of a homebody anyways." She shrugged much to his surprise and amusement.
"Actually for the longest time my parents were worried that I would become a hermit." She added lightly laughing taking his hand and leading him to the futon in her living room as his cheeks seemed to flush pink a bit.
"Oh and sorry about dinner... I don't really have much in my fridge or anything to snack on besides Funyuns- and they don't really seem your... Style." She added with a cough as he started to help unfold her futon bed for them in the living room.
"But-hey! I figured we could just order out and have it delivered?" She muttered as she started grabbing pillows and blankets as he simply watched her an adoring look on his usually dark face. It was almost eleven but they had gone a bit crazy when getting takeout. Oliver had insisted on paying for it all. You name it he got it; Chinese, pizza, sushi, mini cakes, wines, chocolates. It was like a wet dream for a foodie.
The television lightly played in the background her favorite movies as they sat together eating their newly obtained food. Sighing she took a bite of dark moist cheese cake covered with melted chocolate and experienced a gastronomic foodgasm as soon as the sweet goodness metered in her mouth. It was superbly rich in both taste and texture. A delighted smile found its way on her face as she ate it slowly savoring each bite.
Stuffing her face with food, she didn't notice the pair of eyes watching her intently. Oliver, who seemed content with watching her eat, what with that rather pleasant smile on his face, went ignored by her. "I see you're enjoying the cake darling. I'm glad." He spoke a sliver of a gentle smile on his face.
He poured some of the wine he had brought into a glass and elegantly drank out of it next to her. He did it so fancily she even thought he would next stick his pinky up. No doubt he was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth.
"Would you like some dearie?" He questioned as he caught her staring at him drinking holding out the glass to her.
Did he want her to drink from the same glass?
"Uh- I've never really drank alcohol before..." Mavis told him nervously she couldn't possibly tell him what she was actually thinking.
"That's okay darling you should try some," he moved closer to her lifting the glass to her lips.
"H-Hey I'm still underage..."
"It's just us dearie~"
Sweet warm liquid entered her rosy lips, and her eyes widened. It was just the right amount of bitterness. She took the glass and devoured the rest of the sweet dark purple drink. He looked at her surprised with a pleasant smile on his face. "I'm glad you like it my dear~"
He took the large bottle and poured her more much to her delight.
Throughout the night they had shared one glass Mavis drinking the majority of it as the doctor watched her gleam happily in her own little world. Eventually, the bottle had become empty, and she was left with a warm fuzzy feeling. Her thoughts all blurred together and her cheeks lightly blushing a cute hue of pink.
Her feet wandered leading her to the balcony of her apartment. The snow flakes falling gently onto her pink cheeks as she stared blankly at the sparkling black sky. She loved the snow. Where she was from it rarely ever snowed. She sat on the railing her legs hanging over the edge. Each individual snowflake resembled the stars above but when they reflected the moonlight it was as beautiful and shiny as a queens ball gown.
Gently she rose her hand and tugged at the white silk ribbon holding her long fiery hair together. Once the small bow came undone it fell to the ground and her hair tumbled down finally free. It was wilder than a lions mane, but it gracefully blew in the breeze. It only looked more ethereal as snow collected in the red locks like little white sparkles hanging in her face. The light from inside her apartment only illuminated her figure in the dark. She smiled gently her heavily wrapped body like a ball of warm clothing sat on the railing as she contently swung her legs back and forth above the many stories below.
"...Mavis?"
A voice called from behind her.
She turned her head to be met with Ollivander's pitch black ones.
"Oliver!" She called out happily with a light giggle hands straight up in the air as he stood at the entrance of the balcony. His face seemed to darken as he swiftly came towards the railing.
"Don't do that it's dangerous."
Her eyes widened a bit in shock as he grabbed her but soon her eyes brightened and she gushed smiling. "Awe you're so sweet!~ Such a big softy! Oli~" she slurs a bit as she wraps her arms around his large dark form and snuggles her face into him and his warmth. Soon she gazed up at him softly a blush on his face and she yanks his giant form down by the collar of his coat bringing his head down to her own. Her lips swiftly came to his forehead. Kissing his soft skin and locks as he stood still in shock.
