__________ POV Narration__________
While Ashton and the leaders of the New continent(the Princes and Zodiacs) were discussing how to face the beings that threatened to end humanity.
There were plenty of people still present in Lake Mobius that were unaffected by the Shakti 'pandemic'.
The spread of the strange aura happened quickly, in the span of a month, just about every major city was infected with it.
Usually, the people in power would be more prepared for a pandemic to happen, they'd have precautions of some kind. But Shakti actually targeted the world leaders first.
This, after all, wasn't a microorganism harmful to humans(like a normal disease), this was the life force of a god trapped in a different dimension. It had seeped into the regular world and started spreading everywhere within Lake Mobius.
It didn't aimlessly spread, it was intelligent. It allowed the god to control more and more humans.
Even then, there were plenty of people that had managed to avoid infection. Some people living in remote places, for example. They were not a united force however, there were groups scattered all over Lake Mobius, and they didn't have a leader or any plans for the future. At least not all of them.
The situation at the Zoldyck household had developed just as Ashton had expected it to. The Zoldycks were far too strong to be attacked by any group of Shakti controlled civilians.
They closed themselves off, most of the Shakti users couldn't even get through their front doors, so there wasn't even anything remotely dangerous for them.
They even captured a few infected people to run experiments on them(much like Ashton himself) Kykyo(Silva's wife) was actually the one to make the most discoveries.
She had dedicated a lot of her time to doing so, but she managed to find out quite a bit about Shakti.
Now, the Zoldycks had realized the threat that Shakti held towards humanity. But they weren't really sure what to do about it. Upon their mountain, they would remain untouchable, but they needed to be careful in other places.
Thankfully, being careful was their speciality. And so, the family of highly trained assassins gathered more and more uninfected individuals to their mountain range.
It was something that Silva would've never approved of, as he was extremely cautious about inviting others into his home. But thankfully, Maha was still alive. The old beast still had a year or two in him.
He was, in the end, the senior. Even if Silva was the leader in name, his opinion mattered above all.
Maha, unfortunately, was growing weaker and weaker. It was to be expected from a man of his age, after all, he was the closest to actually being compared to Ashton in age. (closest yet still far away)
Even Killua was called back to his home, Illumi and Silva both needed to go after him to Gon's hometown, Whale Island. At first, the young white-haired assassin thought that his family didn't want him to be adventuring anymore.
But he became shocked when the situation was explained to him. He and Gon, alongside any family Gon still had around, all went to the Zoldyck compound. The Zoldycks also decided to gather the regular residents of Whale Island.
They managed to evacuate everyone quickly, after all, there was enough space in their compound. But the Zoldycks weren't really doing that out of the goodness of their own hearts.
They were aware of how dangerous Shakti was to humanity, and humanity dying out would also mean that their family business would be gone.
They had decided to gather people in their mountain range to start a city. And the attempt was successful. Well, partially, it still needed time to develop, it was mostly a small village as of now.
In only one month, they gathered more and more people, those people all started farming the unused lands. They built homes using the excess forests and resources inside the compound.
Of course, no one was allowed to walk further into the compound, that was where the actual home of the assassins was.
And so, the Zoldycks had managed to gather quite a few people. There were 50000 of them at the very least. And there was still plenty of space. It was just difficult to convince all that many people of the dangers that Shakti possessed.
Some people understood, especially those that knew about Nen already. But others didn't take it seriously, they chose to remain, and proceeded to become infected too.
Still, the Zoldyck family was flourishing in its own way. Sure, food wasn't exactly plentiful, but crimes were almost non-existent. Why? Well, the people that had agreed to come with the Zoldycks all knew who and what the Zoldycks were.
Those that didn't were told. No one wanted to get on the bad side of extremely powerful assassins.
And the Zoldycks all had quite a few troubles on their minds.
There were many questions to be had, and one of them was obviously: 'Where did this strange aura come from?' and the other was more of an after-thought 'What happened to the expedition?'
The second question was a bit easier to answer. They knew from Illumi and Kalluto(who were both punished btw) that Ashton was also on that expedition. So they could at least assume that things would work out there.
Things were going smoothly for them. At least for the most part. The Zoldycks didn't care for the people that choose not to follow them. So there was no stress for them.
They had done their part in preserving humanity already. They had provided a safe environment for quite a few people.
And that was a lot more than necessary. They were assassins, after all, they didn't really care about the people.
But the situation had escalated beyond the point where it would've been logical to ignore it. When humanity was at stake, someone needed to step up and protect it.
And since no one better was around, then it remained for the Zoldycks, a family of assassins and murderers, to preserve it.
Ashton was going to be quite amused by this piece of news when hearing it. But that would take a while.
As Cluck(chicken) and Ginta(sheep) of the Zodiacs had both only just departed with Ashton's letters. It would take the two at least a month to make it to Lake Mobius.
After sending the messages they'd also wait two weeks, then they'd start the long boat ride back to their new home, the freshly colonized continent.
The plan was in motion. All that was left was to observe things, and hope that they would go smoothly.
