__________ POV Ashton__________
Now, to escape from this little predicament of mine. I can't really climb back up through the church. As that place is likely already swarmed.
So, I will have to break through the ceiling and fly away as quickly as possible. I put most of my relics in my void space in preparation.
I don't want to lose any of them if my current body dies. So I need to be careful. I made a few clones around me. By now, the beasts were getting more violent as they also felt my use of nen.
I used Nature Renosance to put my clones into the ground.
Then I instantly spread my En, I imbued it with my Parasitic Explosion Hatsu and blew apart the entire ceiling of the cave.
Along with the beasts directly above it. Then I used another explosion to send myself flying towards the top of the dome.
It seems that the beasts mainly entered through the patched-up roof, so I guess the trees held up properly.
The beasts were still completely clogging up the hole they had created. So I won't be able to use it to escape safely. But I can thankfully make another one.
I grabbed one of the flying beasts. A strange bat-like creature with fur and a single sharp claw.
A 'Monobat', not an explicitly powerful species, but they are usually disease-ridden and quite dangerous because of that.
I grabbed it by its wings and injected a large amount of Nen into it. Then I swung it around in the air and threw it towards the roof of the dome. A part that looked intact.
It did try to bite me, but it wasn't fast enough. It hit the roof of the dome-like a bullet. Then, it exploded into a raging inferno. The fire and impact ruined the roof and I quickly dashed away.
Leaving 'mines' behind me, a powerful explosion left in pockets of air to detonate my pursuers. I detonated all of them as soon as I was a good enough distance away.
Killing and stunning most of my aerial pursuers. I was then about to just explode my way to safety. But a large rock came flying towards me.
The beasts on the ground using any method they had at hand to bring me down.
This was more surprising than it was damaging, so I guess they can think, but they just can't think about anything else other than methods to kill each other...
I just used the projectile as a stepping stone to fly myself further away from the swarm of beasts trying their best to kill me.
I then quickly took out my Wind Strider Boots and put them on midflight. It wasn't all that difficult. I just needed to slow down a bit. Something that allowed the flying beasts to come closer to me.
But I instantly created a wind barrier around me and just blew them away with it. Then I quickly wore the Ring of the Wolf to hide my presence and flew above the clouds.
The cold was a bit annoying, but I could bear it without any issue. My pursuers were still hot on my tail, but I will lose them eventually...
----TIMESKIP 3 WEEKS----
Well, eventually is a bit of a short. It took me around two days to get rid of them. Record time too.
After getting rid of all of my pursuers I just found another cave and closed myself inside. Brought out all of my furniture and Pitou, and started studying the writings again.
Well, there's not much work that I have to do in order to understand the words. But I need to put them together properly, and that can be a little tricky.
It took me a while. But I was a lot more relaxed this time too, I just spent a lot more time with Pitou. Her speech also slowly improved as I also taught her how to read.
She was happy to be reading a few books that I could give her. I did bring quite a few with me in preparation, but I don't really have the best tastes when it comes to this.
She found most scientific texts and academic ones to be extremely boring. She could read them, but she didn't want to.
She did like the children's fairy tale books that I gave her, so that's nice.
Well, on with the texts I found.
The writings sculpted onto the wall inside that church were just a sort of prayer. Nothing special, and nothing mentioning any of the 'older gods'.
The scratches, however, were a bit more... descriptive...
'Today, the beast attack finally happened.
Our defences quickly fell and a few of us have managed to retreat into the church.
We are trying our best to defend the others, but we have too few men. The civilians are in a state of panic.
We are soon going to send a squad outside to bring back some supplies to last us a while.'
That was the first writing.
It confirmed my suspicion about the beasts attacking that city. But it doesn't say anything about how the beasts overcame their defences.
They seemed mostly untouched, and the traps weren't ever triggered.
The next texts didn't help either.
'The team never returned. What's worse is that the fools attracted the beasts here!
They were expecting me to open the door for them! Did they want to get everyone killed?!
I don't understand why! Why has this happened?! This wall was supposed to stand forever...
Has our powerful king betrayed us!? Has our liege abandoned his throne?
What will become of us?'
The man that wrote this lost his hope at this point. I guess it didn't take long, but it is understandable. The situation was extremely bleak.
They couldn't do anything, they couldn't see anything. They could just hear the beasts trying to pound down the walls of the church.
The beasts obviously failed, but the men died nonetheless...
' Why am I here? It's dark... It's musky...
Where is my family? My Myranda, my Louise... What has become of this country?
I can't see any hope, I can't see anything.
Why is there so much noise? Where is everybody else?~'
The writing continued on with useless ramblings. It's obvious that a lot of time passed in between the second and third entry.
I can more or less guess what happened in between those walls. They didn't have enough supplies, after all, there is only one thing they can do. Eat each other.
The captain likely won because he was the strongest. But it's quite obvious he went insane and was in denial about the whole situation.
He claimed that human flesh tasted sour in one phrase and that he didn't know where everyone else had disappeared to in the next.
Oh well. I still have the altar to decrypt. This one is a bit more complicated.
Mainly because it's another poem and they can be interpreted in more ways than one. So the words can get annoying to figure out...
Well, better get to it. Pitou is still here to keep me entertained anyway...
