Chapter 72 - A very normal stage

Apparently so. Because it seemed like a bunch of night prowlers are surrounding me. By night prowlers I mean mercenaries or adventurers who are out and about late at night.

The city guards and the knights should be preoccupied with the other group of cultists who targeted the garrisons instead of the estate like us. What luck to still find such fierce resistance.

A band of mercenaries have already drawn their swords and bows, ready to take justice into their own hands. I would like to state that this never goes well, but I have to finish off my job quickly. However, the kid tackles me and hugs my leg like that would help, but I fling him off as he's tossed onto the paved ground.

Quickly flicking my wrist I cut the high priestess' throat before the riff raff can reach me. Ducking beneath a horizontal slash, I weave past his arm and flee through the crowd. With everyone in such proximity to each other, I don't expect to be attacked. Unless they were idiots who didn't care about hitting their allies which they were.

Fools!

Kicking and shoving past the mob I flee from the scene, the incompetency of their assault leading them to inadvertently suspect each other, which is good for me. As it allows for me to sneak away without pursuit.

Hmm, looking behind me, it's obvious that the others have left, presumably because they believed this wouldn't be a problem for me. And it wasn't. More so a hassle.

Slinking around the backstreets, I meet at our rendezvous point. I see Lazari and Lily have already made it here, in fact, I'm the last one.

Standing near an area near the slums, the others greet me with their hands raised. These guys sure know how to show respect, huh.

"We just finished with the garrisons so that should be all for stage one," Lacer nods his head toward distant smoke plumes in the distance. "Now for stage two,"

Stage two? Yep, apparently, there was a second part to their ingenious plan. Using the lack of an authoritative power in the city, they would incite the gangs and criminal organisations in the slums to make their move, further decreasing the stability of the city.

But wait.

"Did we kill the city lord?"

"We didn't?"

I'm asking you!

"Who cares, it really doesn't matter anymore. Not with that light show you caused," Lacer puts a conclusive end to this discussion, "Oh, just askin' but what was that light stuff? I see you've lost a couple guys"

Laffer leans over as he reports on the situation that just occurred.

"Damn, to think the Pantheon already had their tentacles encroached this deep in the Kingdom," Lacer places a hand on his chin with a thoughtful expression. "Nonetheless, as I said, we'll continue,"

Again, we split up into groups, this time I follow Lacer as we enter an institution of some sort.

The outside is dirty and grimy as expected of any area within a slum, we enter through the front door. Passing through a contingent of crooks, who I assume are the guards here.

Our group consists of me, Lacer, and my two companions.

"Oh my~ Are you perhaps looking for a good time~~" A woman whispers to me as I pass through the entrance.

I'm getting a strange intuition that children shouldn't be here.

"Ay, don't get distracted, they're all chock full of venereal crap, wouldn't wanna be stickin' it in any ol' hole," Lacer huffs, looking at the women around us in disdain.

I don't know what he's talking about, nor would I want to stick anything in any holes.

"Good lad,"

He says as he leads the way to a private reception room near the back of the building, again passing by another set of guards. Like everything else, the room is dirty and the fetid smell of bodily fluids quickly makes itself known.

Are there animals in here? On second thought, it smells human.

Seated on a couch is a rather plump man. He reclines back with his arms around women on either side of him.

"What d'ya need from me this time," he snarls, showing his yellowed teeth.

"Nothing much, nothing much," Lacer waves his hands as he approaches the man and stands in front of a couch opposite.

I'm not too sure what's happening here, so I just stand beside the door. However, as soon as Lazari enters the room, a glint flashes through the fat cunt's eyes.

"You bringin' new stock?"

"I'm afraid I'm here for quite the contrary,"

As I'm glaring daggers at fat cunt, Lacer spoke again,

"Jeffrey, would you like to do the honours?" He gestures toward me.

Honours? If he thinks I'm selling Lazari then that's a big no. As if already detecting my misconstruction, he quickly adds on.

"Killing him I mean,"

At these words, the two women beside fat cunt burst forward pulling out straight daggers from who knows where and shielding fat cunt. Glazing us over, fat cunt seems oddly composed as he smirks at us in contempt. He's clearly underestimating us.

"Hmm, did you think you could just waltz into my territory and call the shots 'round here?" Fat cunt's stomach jiggles as he makes a feeble attempt at standing up. "Do you take me for any wayside trash to kick!?"

"Well yes," Lacer snaps his fingers as he subtly gestures for me to do something. Well, here I go killing.

One of the women tries to intercept me, but although she does look to have some skill, it looks more to be self taught street know how rather than actual training. As a testament to her street style techniques, she lines up a kick straight for my groin. It was predictable, and slow as well to boot. Backhanding the kick, I follow through with slapping her face, spontaneously causing her to corrupt and wither.

She starts screaming in agony, which attracts the horrified gaze of her comrade. Grinning, Lacer takes her distraction to land a heavy push kick, slamming her through a wall most likely rupturing her internal organs.

"Godsdamnit! Useless! You're all useless!"

Fat cunt starts yelling, at the dead people? I'm not going to question it, but we should probably finish up as we've made quite a bit of noise.

Kicking his shins, he topples onto the ground as I stamp his neck, crushing it and killing him. Rather overkill, but I felt like he deserved it. I didn't like the look he gave my girl.

So, what was the point of that senseless killing? I mean yes, I wanted to kill the guy but why did we even come here in the first place?

"C'mon let's go, I'll tell ya' later,"

Leaving through the front entrance, we encounter a bunch of resistance from the criminals stationed around. However, after killing the first couple, the rest just fled.

Self preservation instincts actually helping out for once. Usually, it makes everything a pain…
