Reaching divinity, no matter the time or place, has been the goal pursued by billions of people throughout history. Overcome the limits of mortality, possess the strength to move mountains or the power to destroy stars with a simple flick of the finger. Without a doubt, the vast majority of people would risk everything to achieve such a feat. However, these are nothing more than mere fantasies passed down from generation to generation. A mere mortal will never be able to become a deity… not anymore.
Eons have passed since the first people managed to ignite a small spark of divinity in their souls. Little by little, these people learned to merge themselves with the energy that made up the world itself and feed that spark with it, turning the mere spark into a powerful blaze, thus taking the first step into the realm of the deities.
However, obtaining divinity was anything but easy. That energy was not something intended for mere mortals to use, so the very act of absorbing that energy was capable of altering one's body and even one's soul. Even those who managed to transcend successfully saw their bodies altered, obtaining peculiar golden pupils and a pair of wings of the same color.
On the contrary, those who were not able to withstand the power ended up with their body shattered, or worse, their soul being consumed by fire. However, not all of them died. Even with the body in pieces and the soul completely incinerated, some of them remained alive, becoming nothing more than mere specters, hungry for that divinity that they could not obtain.
Those specters attacked everything that had the slightest sign of divinity, and being nothing more than mere corrupt spirits, killing them wasn't something easy. However, their ego was practically nonexistent, so dealing with them was not so complicated. Instead of trying to kill them, it was decided to lock them in a dimensional prison, condemning them to wander eternally in the middle of nowhere, waiting for them to disappear into nothingness by themselves.
Unfortunately, that energy that allowed people to reach divinity was not infinite. Little by little, it faded, until the remaining amount became insufficient to nourish anyone else. Because of that, those deities decided to seek places richer in that energy and left the world, leaving behind mere mortals who could never transcend and those corrupt specters locked in the dimensional prison from which they should never be able to leave.
Millennia passed, stories of deities became legends and legends became myths. However, thousands of years later, in that world where no one would ever obtain divinity again and some beings hungry for that power were locked up, a prodigy was born...
