Chapter 26 - The Words That Hit Chu Xinian's Heart

The words instantly made the atmosphere silent.

It had been a long time since Chu Weixu had heard the woman's voice. As soon as he heard her voice now, the memory fragments of how he and the woman had had a great argument about five years ago returned like random knitting, made Chu Weixu's heart go crotchety.

Chu Weixu gritted his teeth, trying to hold the feelings that were about to explode within him. He was silent for a moment, struggling to be as steady as possible so as not to say words that could hurt someone's heart. Yet, a chill still lingered in his tone as he said, "It's me, Weixu."

He knew the voice very well. The owner was the one who made him have the feelings he bore currently, which was resentment and hatred. Not because the resentment and hatred were directed at the woman, it was just for himself.

While on the other line of the phone, Chu Xinian who heard the name froze instantly. Even the expression on her smiling face gradually became straight like a living statue that depicted nothing on her face but a hollow beauty.

They both fell silent, waiting for one of them to make a voice but all that lasted was a long silence. There wasn't the slightest sound on the phone, only silence filling the gap between them.

Chu Xinian wanted to convince herself that the person who mentioned her younger brother's name was a liar but she couldn't help it at all, clearly the familiar voice she had just heard proved that it was Chu Weixu.

Nonetheless, in contrast to Chu Weixu, what Chu Xinian felt when she heard her younger brother's voice was neither resentment nor hatred but a sensation of pleasure that almost made her cry. She was only surprised when Chu Weixu suddenly called her using Ai Zhiyi's number, so she got speechless.

After almost two years of not hearing her younger brother's voice, now she could finally hear it although it sounded unfriendly.

But, it was a common thing that Chu Xinian eventually got used to. Both of them were already like two enemies where one of them was reluctant to be united.

Even so, Chu Xinian couldn't lie to herself that she was glad. She couldn't help but smile. How disobedient Chu Weixu was, Chu Xinian couldn't hate him other than to love him like an older sister who instilled her affection for her little brother she loved.

Even though Chu Xinian knew that Chu Weixu's purpose of calling her wasn't because a younger brother wanted to hear how his older sister doing was, Chu Xinian was simply delighted that she couldn't think of anything bad in her head.

In the end, Chu Xinian opened her mouth to ask how Chu Weixu was. All this time he had only kept hearing it from Ai Zhiyi's mouth, so she had taken the initiative to hear it directly from Chu Weixu as well as intended to have a pep talk.

However, as soon as her tongue moved to string a sentence, Chu Weixu immediately spoke as if he didn't want to hear a word from anyone else.

"Stop sending me medicine. I can afford them. So, I hope this is the last time you do this," Chu Weixu said in a cold tone, no matter who he was talking to at this time.

Hearing the words, Chu Xinian's throat seemed to be clogging on her own words that she hadn't had the chance to say yet. She was silent for a moment as the happiness he felt gradually turned into a disappointment he hadn't felt in a long time.

As if unconcerned about his sister's feelings, Chu Weixu said again in a warning tone, "If you give any medicines to Xiaoyi, I can guarantee they will end up in the rubbish bin."

Finally, after being clamped up by Chu Weixu's words, Chu Xinian yelled furiously into the phone, "Weixu! How dare you say that! At least you should be grateful that I still care about you! Idiot!"

Chu Weixu replied indifferently, "No need. I don't need your mercy."

The words had hit the woman's heart so hard that she lost the words on her lips. He was initially about to say something, but Chu Weixu's words shut his mouth first mercilessly, leaving an ironic smile on her face.

While Chu Weixu, after saying his words, he immediately hung up, assuming that the warning was self-explanatory, so there was no need to repeat the same statements. Then, he walked out of the bedroom to the teahouse downstairs to help Ai Zhiyi. He smiled, greeting Ai Zhiyi as usual, acting usually as if nothing had happened.

On the other hand, in a magnificent office where Chu Xinian was. Chu Xinian stared at the void at the edge of her vision as soon as Chu Weixu hung up. Disappointed, she slowly lowered her hand while gripping the phone tightly.

Meanwhile, there was a tall, good-looking, and dignified man who had been watching her while she was talking to Chu Weixu on the phone.

The man didn't show any expression on his face, only showing the arrogant and apathetic manner of the leader. He sipped the cigarette that was tucked between his two long slender fingers lazily.

As soon as he spoke up, revealed that the cold tone on the man's deep voice conveyed displeasure, "Weixu? Does he often make you like this? Looks like he needs to be educated again. After living on the streets for so long, his attitude is getting much worse than I thought previously."

Hearing the words, Chu Xinian turned her head towards the cold man leaning against the frame, while the man cast his gaze out the window, looked indifferent to what he had just said.

Chu Xinian frowned, looking intently at the man. Her eyes were threatening, then she expressed her disapproval in an annoyed tone, "Don't blame him. He wouldn't be like this if our family hadn't cornered him."

There was a mysterious grin suddenly etched on the man's face as if the curve at the corners of his lips was ridicule and contempt for Chu Xinian. He said flatly, "Oh, it seems you're still on their side too. Your mindset hasn't changed yet."

As soon as he finished his words, the man walked like a respected leader. There was pride in every foot he stepped, exuding a strong aura of existence, even the echoes produced by every note of the tap of his shoes was a reverence that many were proud of, making his enemies' guts shrivel like a looser.

However, It wasn't the case for Chu Xinian. The woman even threatened him before the man left her office, "Don't come to Weixu if you're only trying to provoke him or I'll report you to mother."

The man's shady face smiled meaningfully. He immediately stopped walking after hearing Chu Xinian speak.

Without spinning his head, he said in a low voice that seemed cold, "I just want to say hi for him."
