Chereads / Into The Demon Apocalypse: Hell On Earth / Chapter 14 - Cat And Mouse

Chapter 14 - Cat And Mouse

Back at Cranberry street, the apartment building, on the 8th floor.

David Dolan sat right across Ivan Adolf Grigorovich, the senile prophet.

"The deal ends here," David said, then stood up and walked to the door.

The old and frail Ivan ran over to David then fell and grabbed onto his trouser as he muttered the word that seemed to hold long-lasting grief and sorrow, "Please…"

David raised his foot with force leaving Ivan wasn't strong to continue holding onto it on the ground, helpless.

David just zoomed out from the apartment, without looking back.

David got back to the 7th floor and started making preparations to move to the abandoned station, where Damian Cross and company were.

"Everyone should carry minimum supplies. Not too much, not too less," He instructed.

He wanted to move quickly to meet with Damian and company back again.

He was afraid Damian lied to him but he knew very well that it would be hard for them to move freely due to the conclusion of the 1st phase.

"Steph, make sure no one carries any sharp object."

"...Ok sir." She gave an affirmative answer. She was still lost in thought as to why Harry was afraid of their father and why her father wants to follow Damian Cross so bad.

She understood that if they possibly stayed on the first floor or second floor then they wouldn't even be in too much danger.

Damian and David said they feared the aeroplanes that could come crashing at any moment but she wasn't dumb. She knew they both knew that after a few days such a thing couldn't happen after then because no plane would be flown meaning no plane would come crashing down.

'Do they just want to play a game of cat and mouse? Adults act so awkwardly.'

It was hard for her to notice the true motives of both of them. Therefore, resulting in her loss in thought.

David pointed out everything they needed and they complied. No single soul refuted or complained.

"We will leave first thing tomorrow morning by 9:00 a.m." David said, "Make sure you aren't forgetting anything."

Stephanie walked up to her father, who was standing in the middle of the hallway issuing orders, "Dad, please I need to speak to you."

"Not now Steph," David waited for a little, as if deep in thought, then turned to his sixteen-year-old daughter, "What is it?"

"Dad, those things are flying around. It won't be safe to move everyone so why don't we just stay here?" This was also one of the questions that were bugging her greatly.

"Damian Cross can't be trusted. I suspect he has something to do with what's happening."

"What?! Does he have a hand in what's happening? Is that even possible?"

"It is very likely. I'm not sure of it myself and that is why I have to keep close tabs on him. And that Mark looked like the man I told you I saw kill everyone on the 1st floor. Staying close to an enemy might help you find out their weaknesses and you might just luckily slide in a punch."

Stephanie nodded tensely. She immediately reasoned with her father. She had always felt something was off with Damian but didn't know why.

At Brooklyn Bridge City Hall Subway Station.

Damian gave Arthur his designated items to carry. The burden on his body had now lessened and he wasn't drawn back due to the weight of what he carried.

The subway was dark but they had already brought flashlights.

They moved quietly but at a fast pace. The earlier they got out of the area of danger the better.

"Finally," Mark heaved a sigh of relief.

The trio finally arrived at Worth Street Subway Station and started off-loading their supplies.

They set up their tents a few metres away from the exit that was blocked by a gate that was tightly shut.

They had already expected this and set up ways to get food and refill their supplies.

Damian proceeded to rest in his tent. He shared his tent with Arthur, meaning they set up only two tents.

The tent couldn't take his height so he curved up a little and took out his phone.

'Hmmm… a three day break time. Or perhaps, three days to deal with the failures.'

For Damian and his crew, the issued break was even a big help for him. They had food and water that could last a week!

However, he was still faced with the constant dilemma, 'How can I farm rings?'

After deliberating over the matter, he finally tossed it at the back of his mind for now.

'Sigh… So much has happened within the short span of a day. Within the short span of a day… my life drastically changed...' He was in deep thought.

He remembered the reason for his predicament and knew who his made-up anger was to be directed at.

After a while, he let out a calm self-deprecating laugh then became serious all-over, making it look like the former and latter were different people.

"Sigh, The Gingerbread Friend… What an asshole."

Ting!

– 20 rings have been deducted from user Damian's total as punishment for affronting a supernatural existence

'...that was my hard work I had to put my life on the line for. At least now it's confirmed that 'he' has something to do with this.'

He didn't pay much to his deducted rings by saying, "What's gone is gone." Instead, he got out of his tent and sat down on the small retractable chair they carried.

Instinctively, Mark also came out and sat on the other chair opposite Damian.

The area was bright because they also brought a large LED lamp.

"So now what?" Mark said to inquire about what they had to do next.

"We wait," Damian said, plainly.

"For?"

"David Dolan."

"Why?" Mark was perplexed. What significance did David Dolan hold to their survival of this apocalypse?

"That's not necessary right now. Do you have any idea on what we have to do to farm rings?" Damian asked.

Mark appeared to be in thought before he finally spoke up, "Why don't we just keep killing demons? And possibly go around during daytime rescuing other people?"

Damian was impressed. He didn't think Mark would come up with such an idea; although, Damian had already thought of such and deduced a problem with it.

"Wouldn't that just be us willing to throw our lives away?"

Mark gave a self-deprecating laugh and said, "We both understand that is of little importance to us."

He had a rough overview of Damian's character and could depict it.

Damian couldn't refuse what he said, but instead, added, "Then we're exorcists and demon slayers as a profession."

Mark laughed and Damian followed suit. It was the first time they laughed together.
