Chapter 5 - Lucero Family Secret Book (2)

This little journal felt so magical, it's no wonder the Lucero family believes all of this comes from a God.

With the ability to record both versions of the same day, it can certainly be useful if you use it well.

Tired of so much complaining and detailed information from Vladimir Lucero, I flick through some pages again until I see a different handwriting. This time, it was Vladimir's youngest daughter, Nikita, talking about how she got this power on her father's deathbed. So, that's probably the reason for such a lame power exchange ceremony. Since you only have to touch each other lightly, the whole thing would not be so embarrassing between a dying father and his daughter. It was that sh*itty uncle's choice to actually tightly grab my hands and even interlock fingers!

Maybe I should spend tomorrow punching uncle Igor. It should not be a problem if I only do it the first tomorrow.

I read a couple more entries by this ancestor. Nikita was a few years older than me, when she got this power. In her first entries, she sounded bewildered with how it works.

So far, I didn't get any new useful information. All the rules stated so far are the ones that I already know about.

I decide to jump a few hundred pages. What is written down startles me. I didn't check who this ancestor was, but they had some issues. This entry is just about food! I glance through the next couple of pages and it's all the same. Food. There are even recipes. They even used this power to compare how the exact same ingredients worked out in different recipes...

I hear a rumbling noise. It's my stomach. I look outside the window and the sun is setting. It's normal for me to be hungry. It's already dinner time, and I skipped lunch to chase after uncle Igor.

I can keep reading after eating.

...

After eating dinner alone, because uncle ran away, I go back to the family library.

It's now dark. Even the moonlight entering through the wide windows can only reach the armchairs and small tables in front of the windows. The rest of the library becomes pitch black thanks to all the rows of bookshelves. I light up the library lamps as I walk.

This time, I sat down at a small desk in the middle of the library, between some bookshelves, with a desk lamp.

I open the book to a random page and I am shocked again. Do I have no normal family ancestors? Or am I just unlucky today? These entries feel like a guide to gambling and scamming people. 'How to use my power to gamble successfully'. One could even publish these entries under such a title. This person just shamelessly bragged about how they used this cursed power to win fortunes gambling without getting caught. At times there's also what you can only call as scamming.

This must be how the Lucero family great fortune started. It's no wonder that it's considered a family secret.

*sigh*

It's so shameless that I just can't stop myself from reading it. The events that showed up the most were in gambling houses and back alleys. Going to the same place twice, and betting as much as possible on the second visit. Knowing the outcome of all the games and bets, it was no longer gambling. There were also many cases when, traveling to different territories, this ancestor gave predictions, faked visions, pretending to be a wiseman, and scammed the locals in many different ways.

I wonder why such a good for nothing had been chosen to have this power. Has uncle Igor been using the power the same way?

Out of pure curiosity I keep reading all the journal entries by this ancestor. Curiosity is part of the human nature, okay.

After gathering an astronomical fortune, they gave the family power to a younger cousin, Anton.

I hoped that Anton had been a more serious person. I gave up hope after a few pages. He just wanted to use this cursed power to chase after a woman. He would use this power to stalk her, find her likes and dislikes, chase other men away, and try different approaches. What was up with this creep?

I shut down the notebook in frustration and held my head on my fists. Those damn ancestors. I should just go to sleep before a vein pops.

I can barely sleep.

I am too upset to fall asleep. After lying on my bed for a long time I finally fall into a light sleep, and after some more time I start to dream.

My dreams are plagued by my uncle Igor and my ancestors. I see a mountain of food and uncle Igor laughing beside it. Someone is eating the food, but its amount never decreases. The food turns into money and precious objects. It starts to crumble and turns into rain. There's a couple under the rain repeating the same action over and over again. The woman walks away but the man follows her at a distance. Then, the man falls down and changes appearances. He's in a graveyard. Something that is like a light and a shadow at the same time shows up in front of him. They seem to talk to each other for some time. The man walks away. The light-shadow looks in my direction and appears to see me, but I wake up at this point.

My eyes fly open and I sit up on the side of my bed. I run my fingers through my now wet hair. What kind of weird dream was that? It must be the family's secret book fault. I only found some crazy ass entries there.

*knock knock*

I look at the window and there is sunlight outside.

"Come in."

It's finally Saturday morning. For the first time...
