They couldn't understand the logic of many of the runes. Not to mention that each rune was governed by different set of rules.
Especially the very similar runes.
Even if they were identical runes, because the starting strokes were different, the meaning was different.
If they couldn't move or distinguish one rune from another, how could there be so many paths.
