Chapter 5 - For Family

As Artemis walked back into the room, she had a dire look on her face, almost unwell.

"Atlas," she called, "the bodies, the bodies, they disappeared,"

"Huh, you mean they just vanished?" Their mother suddenly asked.

"No, they dissolved, when I saw them, the flesh melted first and then the skeletons right after. It was the most disgusting things I have ever seen," she replied as she visibly shuddered, looking vexed, almost heaving as she mentioned it.

"Come here dear, it's alright," her mother cooed as she embraced her.

As she was held by her mother, the monotone voice was heard once again.

[The building has met the requirements to upgrade to base LV.1. As this is the first upgrade it will proceed automatically.]

"What is..."

Before they could even finish talking it sounded again.

"What is all this," Atlas whispered after the messages ended. "Too much is happening too quickly. The voice, the monsters, the items and these notifications. everything is changing just an hour ago we were having dinner! It's all happening to fast!"

He was freaking out in this situation who wouldn't. He tried to stay calm but new things just kept getting stacked up. It is hard to try to keep calm after all these strange events.

"Atlas, I'm scared," Callista said while clinging to his leg as her voice trembled.

"Ah."

Then he remembered why he was trying to keep calm when all this crazy stuff started happening.

'My family, I can't let anything happen to them!' He thought as he clenched his fist.

"I'm sorry Cali, don't worry I'll make sure nothing happens to you, don't worry" He said as he pat her head.

She just dug her head deeper into her leg. He looked around at his mom who was comforting his sister, who was starting to look better and his brother who was nervously shifting his weight from side to side while clutching his bow. Then he laid his eyes on his dad who was calmly sorting through the items and weapons on the floor and taking down notes.

'I'll do anything in my power to keep them safe.'

"Dad how are you so calm?" He suddenly asked as he picked Callista up into his arms.

His dad looked up as he responded, "I have abandoned your mother and you guys once and let your uncle work too hard to help me and that cannot happen a second time."

He paused as he looked Atlas straight in the eyes," and I cannot let my brother down by not protecting you. You guys are all I have left."

They all looked at him shocked as he calmly turned back and continued inspecting everything they had out.

"He is right you know," Grace suddenly said, "I may not know how to hunt but if you have any types of wounds or treatment you need you know where to come. We should have enough ordinary medical supplies here to last us for a while," she said as she smiled at her kids.

"Thanks mom," Arty said looking much better than before.

Bang!

Suddenly what sounded like wood hitting something came from outside of the house.

"What was that?" Apollo said as everyone's head whipped to the back door.

Atlas and the twins slowly and quietly moved towards the back door. The sound was slowly getting closer to the door, as they waited in front of the door the sound finally stopped right in front of the door.

It was then Atlas decided to swing the door outwards to catch whatever was outside off guard and get a preemptive strike before it could get in. When he pushed out using shoulder to propel the door, he felt it hit something that felt like a body.

He saw what he hit laying on the ground it was another goblin, but this one was different. It was much bigger than the other goblins, almost one and a half meters tall (4 feet 7 inches) and it was a much darker shade of green. It was also holding a wooden spear like the other goblins but this one was bigger and much nicer.

'Ah I should try to inspect it' Atlas thought.

"Inspect." He called out.

"Is it different from the other ones? I didn't use inspect on those ones," he said as he looked at the goblin.

There were four other smaller goblins behind it that were looking at them with a mix of caution and malice.

"Inspect."

"They have no class. Does the class make them stronger? Whatever we can look at that later, I will take the big one, make sure the smaller ones don't interfere." He said as he rushed towards the goblin that was now getting up in a dazed state.

Atlas ran over and quickly hacked at its throat, but the goblin quickly moved his spear to block the attack. He quickly scrambled to get off the ground as Atlas took another slash at him. It jumped to the right as it finally regained its balance. It swiftly thrusted with its spear towards Atlas.

Atlas dodged the spear as he moved in closer, and he cut once again at the goblin. He swung downwards at its shoulder as the goblin once again tried to avoid the knife. Stumbling to move after lunging out it barely avoided, and the knife came down on its forearm.

"ARGHHHHHHHH!" The goblin screamed as it clutched its arm in pain, dropping its spear.

Atlas took that chance to Swing the knife at its throat again. Realizing to late the goblin tried to avoid the knife but it noticed too late. As it tried to shout again blood came gurgling out of its throat. The goblin fell to the ground clutching its throat trying to stop the blood as it died shortly after.
