Chapter 1
Jazz's POV
Grandma Margarita is the type of person who is very religious, She would always go to the church or rather take us there as she sat down quietly beside me holding onto her rosary, listening to the sermon of the priest based on a passage from the bible. At night instead of reading fairytales, she would read me stories that came from the bible, which I can say it has truly morals in life. I watch her turn the pages gently as I fall asleep but then she would wake me up just to remind me that praying is a must before you sleep.
Then of course, she would always lead the prayer before we eat. I'm the closest grandchild to her but she wasn't on favoritism because we have to treat others the same if not then it would only be unfair, she said. She called on her courage to face the ordeal that's why I believed that her devotion to god and catholism would never wavered. Until her last breathe she seeks god and wills her family while I remember what she would always say...Faith makes all things possible, Hope makes all things work, Love makes all things beautiful. May you have all three today and always.
When we are on the churh listening to the father, Rocky, my older brother just suddenly shove his elbow to my shoulder "Hey! What's up with you?" I uttered to Rocky whom groaned "You're seriously interested in such believe, are you? Ouch!" as our mother pinched him. "Stop talking nonsense" She warned glaring at Rocky while Grandma's chest started to hurt. "Grandma? Grandma! are you okay?!" I asked out loud getting the attention of everyone. Then grandma just suddenly collapsed from the ground while my mom call the ambulance and dad immediately came towards grandma.
Then the ambulance came, they carry Grandma inside with my mother and I watching from a side. I wouldn't let my mom leave me alone with my siblings and dad because I really want to be with grandma so she had no choice to bring me along.
The driver is driving as fast as he can, the nurse is looking out for Grandma while Grandma open her eyes and reached her hand onto mine. "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love" She muttered, barely breathing as I answered back "1 Corinthians 13:13".
She would always mention something on the bible while we would answer the verse and chapter of it so that we can memories and recognized it. My grandma then smile infront of me for the last time as her hand fell out of my hand and close her eyes that's when we realized that she was no longer alive. Her smile was the most precious of all but it's bittersweet at that time, Mom and I started to burst into tears as we bid farewell to my beloved grandma.
After weeks she was laid peacefully on the cemetary beside the grave of grandpa. While some are leaving, some are talking to each other how sad they are with the sudden death of grandma, I who wanted to look around then saw a bird on the ground. It seems like it was bitten by a dog multiple times, I held it gently so the bird won't get hurt.
Faith, hope and love that's the thing I remember when I held the bird into my hands after seconds of wondering, a sudden light suddenly appear on my hand causing the bird's wounds to heal one by one. The bird's wings slowly moved too then out of nowhere, it quickly spread it's wing to fly high from the sky.
Joining the other birds in there freedom as they flew around me with joy, it seems like the birds are thanking me too so amyne they are family, I had in mind.
That's the time when I smile again not minding what just happened but after that I began to question my self. My little sister Melody got sick when my mother and father isn't around the house, we tried to call them but no one asnwered.
"Jazz just stay there with Melody no matter what happen don't leave her and don't open the door unless it's our parents" Rocky ordered then he went on the pharmacy to get the medicines for a asthma attack but it was far away from our home that's why he will not quickly return.
"Melody? Don't worry okay?! Mom, Rocky and dad's gonna come home sooner and they'll immediately help you" I worriedly said while I was holding her hands then an idea came into my mind PRAY, grandma would always do that. So I close my eyes and kept on praying, Dear god please help my little sister she is only five, she has so many things to do in the near future. I wanna cherish her more during those times so please god let her breathe.
A light then again appear on my hands while Mom, dad and Rocky arrived at the same time. "Mom! Dad! I been calling you guys. I think Melody is having a asthma attack" Rocky said as he put down his bike. "Asthma attack?! then why didn't you call 911 immediately?!" Mom asked irritatingly. "That said don't trust policemen and you guys are so busy working that you can't pick your phone!" Rocky is now arguing with Mom but Dad interrupted them saying "Stop with your bullsh*ts and let's get Melody on the hospital".
Dad came upstairs and opened the door of Melody's room then he was shocked and confused on what he saw. "Daddy...Biwg sistwer is in trowble (Daddy...big sister is in trouble)" Melody uttered, looking at dad. He saw me struggling with my breathing, I couldn't breathe one bit, it's suffocating that's why he immediately carried me down stairs while Melody is following us. "Jazzhea?! What happened?" Mom and Rocky where shocked at the same time, Mom then saw Melody and hugged her as we all went into the hospital.
"We already check Melody and there's no signs or symptoms that she has an asthma but for Jazzhea she needs medicines to prevent this asthma attack again" The doctor said to my worried parents. "Thank you doctor. It's her first time and we really don't know what to do without you" Mom thanked the doctor as he leave. "Am'I dreaming? I literally thought Melody is the one having attacks" Rocky blurted out his confusion. "Yeah you must be dreaming because the medicines you just bought aren't for asthma" Dad said to Rocky who's scratching his head.
"I'm sorry my dear, we couldn't pick up the phone. I'm really a irresponsible parent...sorry....I promised that I will stay by your and your siblings side from now on. I love you so much!" Mom stroke my hair gently admitting her mistake and I see her face, she was sad too so I replied "It's okay Mom. It wasn't your fault" to calm her down.
I was ten years old when I realized that I have a healing power that's why I use it to know more about it and discovered that If I heal animals and the nature which are plants, flowers and more, it doesn't affect me but if I heal wounds or asthma of a human being just like what I did to my sister , I will have that instead of her. No one could ever know my powers because It will be a problem or a trouble and I don't want my parents to worry about me that's why I have to keep this a secret, No matter what happened.
Until Rocky discovered my secret when I'm healing our pet dog named Genre. Due to shocked he eventually let go of the box he is holding causing me to look into that direction which is infront of me. "Jazz....Jazz----zhea did---did you just made Genre's scar disappear?!"He stuttered out loud so I covered his mouth using my hand because we are on the garage right now.
"I'll tell you everything but don't ever tell anyone so calm down...Do you understand?" I insisted as he nodded in response that's why I removed my hands onto his mouth. I told him everything and he was like amazed but teased me at the same time "So that's why your being an adult when your just a kid". "I'm not" I disagreed then his face suddenly turned serious out of nowhere. "Jazz promised me that you won't use your healing powers for humans and that includes are family" With the look on his face, he didn't want me to just promised but do it so I just nodded to be fine.
