Chapter 823 - Chapter 823 - You Know How to Come Back

Knowing that Grandpa was just looking for trouble out of frustration, Roy didn't take it to heart. "You're Laila's grandfather, and of course, my most respected grandfather. I've learned a lot from you over the years, and I should call you grandpa."

Laila laughed lightly beside him. She knew he was always good at talking, and his social skills were top-notch. As long as he was willing, it wouldn't be a problem to make Grandpa happy.

"Sorry, Grandpa, I was wrong this time. At that time, I was just overwhelmed by emotions and forgot to inform you," Roy apologized kindly.

With his attitude, Grandpa finally snorted coldly and didn't continue to pursue the matter. "Alright, stop with the nonsense. Both of you come over here. I don't like talking over the phone. Come and talk to me face to face!" With that, he hung up the phone.

Janet laughed so hard she couldn't straighten up, wiping away the tears of laughter before saying to the two of them, "Look, how much your grandfather loves you both. I, as his daughter, am the last one he thinks of talking to. He won't even remember to say a few words to me." Although she had long known what kind of image she held in her father's heart, she still found her father's occasional childishness amusing.

Just because she knew about the engagement of the two children and didn't tell him, he wouldn't even say a word to her. But Janet was somewhat similar in temperament. After laughing heartily, she tossed aside her father's words: "Rest early, we still have many places to visit tomorrow!" Standing up, she was about to drive the two of them out of her room.

Laila was stunned. "Didn't Grandpa ask us to come back quickly?"

"Are you feeling like you didn't get scolded enough just now?" Janet waved her hand dismissively, with an expression that said, "I know him best. Whenever I made him angry before, I did this. You can trust me!" Before she finished speaking, she had already pushed the two of them out of the room.

Laila and Roy looked at each other. "What should we do?"

Roy shrugged, smiling nonchalantly. "Janet seems to have a point, but Grandpa isn't young anymore. What if he gets really angry?"

"You're right." Laila glanced at her mother's tightly closed door, sighed softly, and said, "I'll book the tickets for tomorrow morning. We can play in the amusement park anytime, but it's better to go back early and appease Grandpa."

So, early the next morning, Janet, who was still planning to go out to play, was dragged onto the plane by her daughter. And when the three of them returned to their home in New York, what awaited them was a scene of loud crying.

When little William heard his mother's voice outside the door, he rushed out on his two short legs.

"Mommy!"

"Little William!"

The two hugged each other in the yard, then burst into tears at the same time.

"I think I remember she wanted to play for another day." Roy watched in astonishment. How could her expression change so quickly? When she got on the plane and when she got off, she looked unhappy, but now she suddenly turned into a "kidnapped woman rescued and reunited with her family, crying with joy" scene.

Laila rubbed her throbbing forehead. "Ignore them. Let's go in and find Grandpa first."

Upon hearing that they had returned, Grandpa was sitting in the center of the living room, with a teapot in front of him, watching TV with his arms crossed. The TV was still broadcasting news of Laila's engagement.

"Grandpa." Laila walked over and sat beside him, glancing at the TV screen before looking back. She couldn't understand why her engagement was attracting so much attention.

But she forgot that she was hailed as a genius director in Hollywood, having directed ten movies that all achieved astonishing box office results. She was also the heir of the Moran family and wielded considerable influence in Hollywood. Although she wasn't a star, she was much more powerful than one.

And the one she was engaged to was a Hollywood A-list actor, the youngest actor to win the Oscar for Best Actor, whose handsome face had made him famous all over America. Could anyone blame others for paying attention to their engagement?

Originally, the entertainment industry was a world under the flashlight, and any slight disturbance would be greatly magnified. Their position determines that their lives are destined to be highly concerned.

Grandpa glanced at her sideways and snorted, "You know how to come back!"

"Hehe, Grandpa~~" Laila wanted to use a silly smile to get through this.

"Don't try to fool me every time something happens. I won't fall for it!" Grandpa said, with more convincing power if he didn't raise the corners of his mouth or try to keep a straight face. Hearing her crying like a helpless child had melted his heart, so how could he bear to scold his granddaughter again?

Laila knew who she was dealing with. Seeing Grandpa's expression, she knew things had passed. She secretly breathed a sigh of relief. But just because Grandpa wasn't angry anymore didn't mean she could continue to play dumb. So she apologized sincerely to him.

"I'm sorry, Grandpa. It was really an accident this time. I originally planned to tell you and Grandma when I went home with my mother. I didn't expect to be photographed at such an unfortunate moment." As if it wasn't enough, she really couldn't understand how her ring could be noticed in such a small, blurry image in the background of someone else's photo.

At this point, Oswald didn't intend to dwell on such matters anymore. As a news tycoon, he had long been experienced in the intrusive nature of the media.

"So? When are you and Roy planning to have an engagement ceremony?"

"Do we still need to have an engagement ceremony?" Laila's face fell.

Grandpa immediately widened his eyes. "Of course! How can the heir of the Moran family not have an engagement ceremony?" But didn't Mom seem to not have one? Laila opened her mouth but swallowed back the retort. It was hard enough to appease her grandfather, so she didn't want to provoke him again.
