Chapter 771 - Chapter 771 - Jonathan Nolan

After finalizing the contract, to spark some discussion, DC secretly released news about Laila acquiring 10% of their stock.

This move shocked countless people, especially those on Wall Street, who had no idea why she would make such a decision.

In the United States, there are only two influential comic companies, DC and Marvel. First, they acquired Marvel, and now they are buying DC stocks. Could Laila Moran's goal be to integrate the two companies and create something terrifying?

If that's the case, won't superheroes appear in movies massively? Don't forget, she turned a B-list Iron Man into an A-list icon. The excitement from back then hasn't subsided yet. Just look at the theme park she owns; in the superhero zone, Iron Man is the most popular spot for photos!

Moreover, from the recent release of "Batman Begins," it can be seen that the potential of superheroes on the big screen is slowly being revealed. If all these superheroes fall into Laila's hands, what will happen in the future of the movie industry, and how will Hollywood's landscape change, is hard to predict!

Wall Street is closely watching Laila, wanting to observe her next move to judge the future trend. Perhaps if any other director did such a thing, it wouldn't attract so much attention, but she is Laila, the living legend of Hollywood, a genius whose talent has long been proven. Whatever she does, no one will say she is fooling around.

No wonder the media once wrote a report about American socialites, categorizing them into two types: one is Laila, and the other is everyone else outside of Laila.

If they were compared to her, those people would be pitiful. No matter how outstanding they are, no matter how many amazing things they have done, in terms of global influence and the wealth they have created, they are far behind Laila. So, when ranking, besides holding the top spot in the socialite rankings for a long time, no one will put her together with others.

Laila didn't pay attention to the outside world's focus on her. What she needed to do most now was to work with Director Nolan to adapt the script for the second Batman movie.

Not sure if it was because of her rebirth or if the historical script would undergo significant changes, but the script she received was not the one used for future movie screenings. It's not that it couldn't work, but it made the same mistake as the first one, which was not having strong control over the pacing, using a lot of ink to outline Batman's character rather than telling a story.

Accompanying Nolan was his brother, Jonathan Nolan. Perhaps many people don't know, but Christopher Nolan's renowned film "Memento" was written by Jonathan, and the script was even adapted from Jonathan's short story "Memento-Mori."

And for his first time as a screenwriter, Jonathan was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for "Memento," showing that he is a very talented person.

This Batman series was also created by the two of them working together, so the shortcomings of the first one were inherited in the next one.

"Christopher, Jonathan, I think there are significant issues with this script." Laila pondered how to say it without hurting their pride and confidence. These two still have a bright future ahead, and they can't lose confidence because of her criticism.

In fact, she was overly worried. Generally, people with great achievements wouldn't ignore excellent advice. Maybe it's because people who play with art tend to be more temperamental, but how could successful people not accept others' opinions at all?

Jonathan was more worldly-wise than his brother, so he sensed Laila's concern. This made him somewhat amused. When did they need to be so cautiously treated by a girl?

"Don't worry, Laila. We're here to learn from you, so please speak your mind."

Director Nolan vigorously nodded beside him.

Laila touched her nose. "Alright, then I'll be straightforward."

She pondered for a few seconds. "I think the suspense isn't strong enough, and the conflict between the two sides isn't intense enough. What audiences love most about superhero movies is the plot where the heroes defeat the villains and save the world. If the conflict isn't strong enough, it will make the villain seem too weak, and consequently, the hero who defeats this 'weak' villain won't seem impressive."

Both Nolans started to think about her words. That's right, if the villain isn't strong, how can we consider the superhero impressive? We can't just think he's powerful because his car is cool, he dresses stylishly, and he has a lot of muscles, right?

"So, do we need to strengthen the villain's power?" Laila nodded. "You chose the Joker, which I think is great. Everyone knows he is Batman's most powerful and most troublesome opponent in decades of comics. Audiences love him, and there's even a story created just for him. But in this script, I see a Joker who is similar to ordinary villains, and I don't feel much of his charm."

"Have you read comics before?" she asked.

"Not too much, but I've read some." Jonathan felt he had underestimated superhero movies. If it were other types of movies, he would collect relevant information more seriously. He knew he had the same problem as many others; he looked down on commercial movies, thinking that other types of movies were the true art, while commercial movies were just tools for making money.

"I suggest you read more comics and grasp the Joker's personality. Believe me, after reading the comics, you will love that character as much as I do." Laila took out a business card from her pocket and wrote a line on the back: "This is a very interesting coffee shop, where many excellent comic fans often discuss everything about superheroes. If you go there, you will definitely gain something."

She was referring to the coffee shop she bought, which had even led to her being taken to the police station because of it. Now thinking about it, that was truly an interesting experience.

Director Nolan took it solemnly, then carefully placed it close to him, making sure he wouldn't lose it before saying, "Thank you, we will definitely go and take a look."

Laila chuckled at his cautiousness. "We still have plenty of time; the movie won't be released until '08. We have plenty of time to carefully craft this movie, don't we?"

"Of course!" Director Nolan nodded naturally. With her around, it wouldn't be easy to mess up the movie. He was already eager to know what kind of superhero movie they would create!
