Chapter 640 - Chapter 640 - Trajectory of Fate

To be honest, she was quite interested in movies like "The Core." She hadn't seen this one, but she had watched the first and second parts of "Journey to the Center of the Earth," and she thought the second part, especially in terms of special effects, was well done.

She didn't expect the special effects of this era to be as outstanding as those in the future, but after watching the movie, she didn't expect it to be so...rough.

Yes, the movie wasn't as exciting as she imagined.

It wasn't surprising, as her aesthetic sense was still in the future, which couldn't be compared to the present. So, after watching the movie, she felt somewhat disappointed. The special effects weren't great, and the entire story couldn't compare to similar works in the future.

"What's wrong? Disappointed?" Roy could tell from her expression that she wasn't very satisfied.

"Yeah, a bit disappointed. The director's skill during 'Entrapment' was better. It seems he's not suitable for directing this type of movie."

Roy ruffled her hair, "Being good at one type of movie doesn't mean you're good at others. Don't imagine everyone is like you."

Laila, after hearing the first half of his statement, found it reasonable, but the latter half irritated her, "What do you mean by 'someone like me'? Are you saying I film too many different types?"

"I mean you're versatile." Roy looked at her with a mischievous smile and couldn't resist kissing her forehead. How could he not love someone so adorable?

The people behind them unexpectedly fed a mouthful of dog food and had to watch it unwillingly. Even Demi, who had decided to devote all her energy to work, felt the urge to find someone to love.

After leaving the cinema, it was just in time for lunch.

Laila didn't want to go too far from the hotel. After watching the movie, she rushed back, and even the meal was enjoyed in the hotel's restaurant.

In a five-star hotel, the food was undoubtedly quite good. Unfortunately, she had no appetite to taste it. No matter how beautiful and delicious the food was, it lost its attraction in her eyes.

After lunch, she didn't go out to explore but went straight back to her room. Afraid that Roy would notice something unusual about her, she simply kicked him out, claiming she was going to buy gifts for everyone.

When Roy, with Demi and a few little girls, excitedly went shopping on the street, Laila started to pace anxiously in the room.

It was now past one in the afternoon, about five hours away from the incident. She didn't know what to do to pass the time, and she didn't know what she should do when the time came.

Persuasion? Or maybe just knock him out?

She had read media reports from her previous life and knew that "he" had committed the tragedy due to a severe depressive episode. Perhaps she could save him this time, but who could guarantee that the same thing wouldn't happen again in the future?

This thought suddenly appeared in her mind, causing the determination that had been building up to shrink instantly.

Yes, she could prevent it once, but could she prevent it for a lifetime? Even if she successfully averted the tragedy this time, what about the next time she wasn't around? Who could guarantee that history wouldn't return to its original course? Who could guarantee that the tragedy wouldn't happen again?

She bit her finger's joint, trying to think of a solution that could be permanently resolved. However, as time passed second by second, her mind was filled with chaos.

When she snapped back to reality, Roy and the others had returned from outside.

"How are you doing?" Roy entered and saw her sitting at the desk with a notebook, but not writing anything.

He frowned because he noticed that she seemed to be in this state when they left. If he remembered correctly, she had stayed behind with the sudden inspiration to write a script in the afternoon. But she hadn't written a single word the whole afternoon; what was going on?

"Okay." Laila tried to force a smile, but suddenly remembering what he said about her smile being hard to look at, she pursed her lips.

Roy sighed inwardly, embracing her shoulders and kissing her forehead, "If you're not feeling well, take a break. I've reserved dinner at the restaurant downstairs for 7:30. You still have over half an hour. Should I go and postpone it?"

"It's okay, I'm fine," Laila replied half-heartedly. Suddenly, she couldn't believe it, and her eyes widened, "What time is it now?"

"It's 6:55, what's wrong?" Roy didn't understand her sudden excitement.

"6:55? How is that possible? It should be around 5!" She grabbed a nearby clock and realized that it had stopped at some point.

She slumped in the chair, feeling her strength drained. How could this happen? Couldn't she change the predetermined arrangement of fate?

No! It's not like that! She could transform from a mediocre director to the current Laila Moran, so why couldn't others change their fates?

She no longer considered whether saving him would lead to another tragedy; she only knew that if she didn't do something now, there would be no chance!

"Roy, I need to go out for a moment." Abandoning the clock, she grabbed her coat and ran out.

Roy, bewildered by what happened, hurriedly followed. Even though it was relatively safe here, he couldn't let her run out alone in such an emotional state.

Laila rushed to the elevator after leaving the room. She remembered clearly that the incident occurred in the gym on the 24th floor, and it was just before 7 pm. As long as she ran fast enough, she should be able to make it. After all, that incident hadn't happened yet, right?

However, the elevator didn't come, and she didn't have the patience or time to wait. Instead, she ran down the fire escape.

"Laila, what's happening?" Roy, trembling with fear, watched her stumble and rush down the stairs at a speed totally unlike her usual graceful pace. Several times, it seemed like she would fall, but at the last moment, she adjusted her posture.

"I don't know, but I have a bad feeling." Laila couldn't reveal the truth about what happened. Instead, she used mysterious words to explain, "It's like a voice is telling me that if I don't go somewhere now, I'll regret it for the rest of my life!"

Roy, catching up to her after her last desperate dash, finally managed to grab her, "Alright, I get it, but you can't run this fast, okay?"

He was terrified by her condition just now. If he hadn't caught her, she would have fallen down the stairs.

"I get it," Laila replied insincerely.

It wasn't that she didn't want to walk properly, but she didn't have time to maintain an elegant and safe pace. There were only a few minutes, or seconds left.

Perhaps the moment she stopped her footsteps, she would lose the chance to change that tragedy. And she absolutely didn't want to see that kind of result!
